The debate was held on the 21st of

March, 9 AM in the gazelle. The motion

set was: Human Rights Day has lost its

relevance. Congratulations to the propo-

sition for winning the debate and to

Thero for being announced as the best

speaker. The teams were as follows: The

Proposition of Vusi, Teboho, and Lebo-

hang, the Opposition was made out of

Thero, Mpho and Mark

Human Rights Braai

On the 23rd of March, the first ever braai

was held by the House. The braai event

was a celebration of Human Rights Day

with an intimate setting. The residents

who attended had a chance to be better

acquainted with one another.

Culture Renewal Braai and Movie

Night

This happened after the second day of

the Cultural Renewal that was held on

the 26th and 27th of April. It was a very

successful event with a great turn out.

The braai took place for most of the late

afternoon towards early evening and, the

movie night happened well into the early

morning. The movies watched were

“The great debaters” and “20The dicta-

tor”.

Outeniqua has had an eventful 1st

and 2nd term filled with community

building. The residents had many

opportunities to meet and interact

with one another. The social and

cultural events held at the residence

have all helped in imparting Outeni-

qua’s values in the residents. Here is

a summary of the events held:

Health and Wellness Movie

Night

The first major event that took

place was the Movie Night organised

by the Health and Wellness Centre

on the 7th of February. Students

came in their numbers to watch

“Remember the Titans”; following

the pyjama party theme. The best

dressed male prize went to Wakka

and the best dressed female went to

Annamarie. The Lucky draw went to

Mpho. It was a fun filled night for all

the quaggas who attended.

Back 2 School launch party

The Back 2 School launch party took

place on the 8th of February at Oo-

long Lounge. Great turn out from

the guys and girls form Outeniqua,

sticking to the theme. It was an en-

joyable event and was a great way

for the students to relieve their

stress after rag. It was an explo-

sive start to the academic year.

Valentines Ball

The first formal event that was

hosted by the house was the Val-

entines ball on the 15th February,

in the gazellie. The atmosphere

was filled with keen people who

danced the night away with the

great music that the Dj supplied

to the party. The Social subcom-

mittee outdid themselves with the

décor and the attendees were

singing praises to the catering

provided. It was an evening of fun.

Human Rights debate

Things that most women find unattractive

about men:

Men with Big Egos

Girls don’t like guys with big egos,

Men licking ice-cream cones

Not only does it look wrong for a guy to lick an

ice-cream cone in public, but it is also a turn off

towards girls. Buy her an ice-cream and let her

have the time of her life, and you rather have a

soda.

Cheap pick-up lines

No girl wants to hook up with a guy who says,

“Girl you must be tired, you’ve being running

through my mind all day”. Yes, you can be

cheesy but not too cheesy. Pick-Up Lines can

be cute and charming but clichés and Facebook

quotes aren’t.

Men who play games

If you drag your feet trying to get her, you will end

up being friend zoned. If you want to win her, be

straight forward with her. Women are very patient

people, but they so hate to wait.

Men who wear short pants on a date

It is disrespectful and it shows no care from your

side. It reflects badly on yourself.

Men with long hair

She wants the mirror to herself. Its like you are

competing with the girl.

Men with big Ass

Its not on, but know how to dress according to

your body

Let the good times roll...

It’s a NO NO NO!!!!!!

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: "What! You too? I thought I was the only one.” ― C.S. Lewis

The Friend zone

Team’s Note

Let’s make this a home.

How fortunate are we to live in a unisex residence? We get to hang out with the opposite sex at any given

time of the day within the bounds of our residence...other residences aren’t as privileged.

Yet, we aren’t making it a home. We complain, about the rules, about having to pay for socials, about each

other, about everything.

We need to calm down a bit and appreciate our diverse com-

munity. On the note of community, we need to build one of

friendship, family, and let go of the animosity. Let’s appreciate

each other, accept our differences and learn from each other. It

really is not difficult at all.

The first step is minding your own business; this will cause less

drama.

Support the house events (pay that R2); to build relationships

with your fellow Quaggas.

On to celebrating each other, big congratulations to Nicole Dixon for obtaining the Quagga of the term

award for her 98% in OBS314, we hear it kicks ass. You’re a motivation to us all, especially now that we’re

headed for exams.

We do hope that you find the first issue of S’truu Mafra informative and entertaining

Best of luck Quaggas, do your best and your higher power will do the rest!

ble with the lady friend, so

much so that the lady draws

to the conclusion that the

male is happy being friends.

The other reason why women

will not take the “leap of

faith”, is because they feel

comfortable with a platonic

relationship and will not see a

reason why they should risk

the friendship for a romantic

relationship that could back-

fire.

The “nice guy” is generally

known to be the most suscep-

tible individual to fall into this

category. Society knows only

3 types of people and the

other types normally get the

girl. The other two types

being the “bad guy” and the

“good guy”. Now you are

probably asking yourself what

the difference with the “good

guy” and “nice guy” as well as

what a bad guy has to do with

getting a girl. It is pretty sim-

ple. The bad guy is a bit of an

obvious one. Girls like to be

agents of change and thus

when they see a guy who is

not decent and proper, they

get the urge to be the one

person who was able to

change them from bad to good.

The sad thing about that case is

that bad guys enjoy being bad.

Now the “good guy” is the one

guy who is decent and every-

body likes him. He is very firm

and most people take him seri-

ously. He generally knows what

he wants from life and more

importantly, in a girl. Now the

nice guy is the type of guy who

gets to know a girl whom he

likes but then he becomes so

scared of ruining the somewhat

comfortable relationship and

settles for being a doormat

which the girl walks all over. The

“nice guy” cannot say no to the

girl.

I know that I have used the guy

as the person who gets “friend-

zoned” in this article but I assure

you that this is a two-way street

and it can happen the other way

around. This is one zone that no

one person wants to find

themselves in. The risk of being

labelled the “Friend-Zone-King”

is enough to keep people on

their toes when it comes to

relationships.

The “friend-zone” is a platonic

relationship where one party

wishes to enter into a rela-

tionship while the other party

is simply not interested at all.

This is quite one of the most

feared and undesired states of

a relationship. Men and wom-

en equally and passionately

despise the “Friend-zone”.

There are differing explana-

tions about what causes a

person to

be placed

in the

friend

zone by

another.

One such

reason

that

stands out

the most

would be

that wom-

en do not

see their

male

counter-

parts as suitable love inter-

ests. Other reasons often

highlighted by the man on the

street is that the male will

sometimes get too comforta-

Her name?

You know her far too well

Beautiful, with a smirk for a smile

And eyes that burn through your soul as a way to make your

spirit swell.

All too familiar with her existence,

Because it is in everything you do to others that screams

Lust in her name

With the hope that she's on your team for that sinful mo-

ment ..

Little do you know

she bats for both teams and when both lose?

She wins regardless

Pats herself on the back

& struts her being away, temporarily with nonchalance

a backstabber, you say?

Not a chance

She is just a woman

Up to date

Modern

With her Red Bottoms and Marc Jacobs garments

A woman

Who is always ten steps ahead, even when you plead

Down at her feet when you need her most

That Lust

That need for her to be on your team

Just for that moment

You need her most when you're hurt,

Because there's something about her touch that makes you

feel whole

But once you have her, someone else crawls to her feet

More desperate than you.

Her?

A willing opponent who is unfamiliar with the word .. Loyalty

batting for the other team

Surprised?

Everyone wants a piece of her

You

She knows that far too well

Which side of your body is your left hand on, when you are looking in a

mirror?

The right side.

The left side.

Both sides.

It depends on what you're looking at in the mirror.

Is it possible to draw a 6-sided Star of David without lifting your pen or

pencil from the paper?

No

Yes

Goldfish are very stupid animals, with a memory span of just 5 seconds.

It takes only 4.5 seconds to read this question. Could a goldfish answer

this question?

Yes, with 0.5 seconds to spare.

No.

Wait, I forgot, what was the question again?

How many times can you fold a plastic drinking straw in half?

Corridor Games 20th of April 2013 marked the day that the 9 corridors came together to battle it out to see which corridor is the best. The corridors were split into four teams with corresponding corri-dors teaming up together. Teams were split up into the Red Team, Blue Team, Black Team as well as a “Colour-blocked” team. There were 3 games played by all the teams and the two top teams took part in an obstacle course where 10 members of the team took part. The Red team and the Black team had the prestig-ious honour of battling it out for top honours. The Black team battled bravely albeit controversy around the final event (what is an event without

a bit of controversy?), but the Red team came out on top and they cele-brated their victory with great delight. The Outeniqua RC Sport and his committee did a splendid job and it is sure that the House Outeniqua com-munity would not mind having this event annually, maybe even once every semester. The Outeniqua stamp of approval is well deserved there. Soccer League Results. The Outeniqua football side has seen some ups and downs in the early stages of the season. Although this is the case, the team has climbed up to the second place on the Kovsie Football League Second division after 3 games played. Outeniqua has managed to get 6 points of a possible 9 points sitting in second place on the log. With plenty

of matches remaining in the season, the team will look to try and win the league title and gain promotion to the first division. Captain of the side, Samuel Bontse and his troops will look to take re-group after the nar-row loss to Legatum. The results of the first 3 games are shown below. Imperium 0 – 16 Outeniqua Veritas 0 – 12 Outeniqua Legatum 4 – 3 Outeniqua Cricket The Outeniqua cricket combined with House Conlaures to form a cricket team which took part in the residence league. The team was known as Continiqua. The team lost to Veritas by 9 wickets. The following

three games were can-celled and it was unfor-tunate since the team was taking shape and looked a very competi-tive side. Veritas went on to win the league title. House Outeniqua congratulates them on their victory. Tennis The Outeniqua female

tennis team has proved

to be tough opponents

on the tennis courts. Anseri Boje,

Bonang Makhetha, Jay-dene Schultz

and Alida Peete have performed well

thus far winning 3 of their 4 singles

matches. House Outeniqua hopes

these performances will be carried

out throughout the tennis season

and stake our claim on the tennis

front.

The first year guys and girls from

Outeniqua outdid themselves.

They gave their competition a run

for their money with their capti-

vating stage presence and their

great interpretation of the char-

Outeniqua made a great debut
