• It is a great shot to use when you want to establish a relationship between two characters.

• By seeing both people on screen at the same time the viewers can use the actor’s body language to gain a deeper understanding.

• As they have equal prominence in the frame, the implication is that they will provide equal input.

Over shoulder shotDefinition: In film or video, an over shoulder shot is a shot of someone or something taker over the shoulder of another person. The back of the shoulder and head of this person used to frame the

image of whatever the camera is pointing towards

This type of shot is very common when two people (characters) are

having a discussion and will usually follow on establishing shot which

helps the audience place the characters in their setting. It is an

example of a camera angle.

Definition 2: A shot of one actor taken from over the shoulder of another actor. Is used when two characters are interacting

face-to-face. Filming over an actor shoulder focuses the audience’s attention on one actor at a time in a conversation rather than on both

When you Filming a conversation between to people, its often a good idea to use over should shot.

2ways to do this:

Film the person speaking, or the person who is reacting to what is being said.

OR…Do the same thing with medium shot, but by shooting in a way where part of the person who is being spoken to is in the frame.

- A film techquine

-One character is shown looking at another character and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character.
