1st copsee international conference on big data
DESCRIPTION
During this all day event (22nd of November), there will be four rounds: 1 - Do we need to believe Data/Tangible or Emotional/Intuition? 2- Should we not invent and build a completely new infrastructure of storage? 3 - Did the current marketing models have become totally obsolete and should be replaced by a new vision? 4- Like watching the world, Big Data transforms the business; is this world only one it can be measured? Or is there any chance to see the human face of Big Data?TRANSCRIPT
Welcome Message from
Chairman of COPSEE
Organizing Committee
The AIM of the Conference
We often hear that Big Data is still far from being achieved and has not lived up to all its promises. Do we have now to trust Big Data?In fact the reasons of this issue seem now identified by the experts: the skills are still too
rare; the technology is poorly understood by the users; a too restrictive number of data
is directly and properly valuable; the Return On Investment and the profitability still have
not been proven; and lastly there is an increasingly ample supply.
Aware of this situation, the main players will surely draw Big Data into a new age, the
coming stage of maturity: a Big Data where modelling will make it more and more in
touch with the users’ realities; a Big Data where database storage structures should
be suitable for a goal which would not be strictly driven by the idea to supply a better
accuracy at all cost; a Big Data introducing high performance data management tools to
identify the real sources of value creation in the organizations.
Would this new age also be an entirely different story? Which data are we exactly talking
about? Will we now believe what the data say or should we not model our intuition, our
experience and the way our emotions lead our behaviour? It’s Companies that should
endeavour to move forward along these lines.
This event conceived as a 360° intrusive Think Tank about the world of Big Data is to encourage thinking outside of the box by merging researchers’ perspectives and field experiences. But there is only one watchword: look beyond appearances! So starting with its first edition the COPSEE deliberately adopted a lively interactive format encouraging discussion and using a Tweet Wall.
I’m delighted to announce the opening of the 1st COPSEE International Conference on Big Data, to be held at Shanghai Advanced Research Institute campus, a joint venture between Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Government, and co-organized by Search’XPR and CAS Data. On behalf of organizers I cordially welcome all the participants who are coming to Shanghai to attend this Conference, despite their probably very busy schedules.
Shanghai COPSEE 2013 is a conference focusing on Big Data global market trends.
There is no doubt that we already have entered the era of Big Data from many years
but the aim of the Conference is to highlight the idea that Big Data is now entering a
New Age.
In the light of the foregoing the 1st Shanghai COPSEE 2013 includes various topics and
domestic as well as international experts will come from research laboratories as well
as companies to present their research results and to speak about their business expe-
rience. But it is a deliberately new approach: a 360° Intrusive Think Tank about the World
of Big Data. During this Conference I would therefore encourage you to discuss actively
with those experts in a variety of aspects and seek for the light of wisdom upon your
search works and your business projects. I sincerely wish that the COPSEE participants
exchange knowledge, experiences, and new findings in the spirits of collaboration and
friendship.
I firmly believe that it will be a great and successful Conference. Based on these continued
efforts, I do hope that there will be more fruitful and implemented collaborations in the
near future.
Finally, I take this opportunity to thank the organizing committee members for their
contributions to organize this Conference. I would also like to thank once again for your
participation and support.
Please enjoy the format of the COPSEE Rounds and use the Tweet Wall. I wish all of you a pleasant stay in Shanghai!
