 The Reserve Ban manages currency in India. The !overnment, on theadvice of the Reserve Ban, decides on the various denominations. TheReserve Ban also co"ordinates with the !overnment in the designing ofban notes, including the security features. The Reserve Ban estimates

the #uantity of notes that are liely to be needed denomination"wiseand places the indent with the various presses through the !overnmentof India. T'e notes re*ei#e& %ro+ t'e 3resses are iss(e& an& areser#e sto*$ +aintaine&. Notes re*ei#e& %ro+ "an$s an&*(rren*y *'ests are e?a+ine&. Notes @t %or *ir*(lation arereiss(e& an& t'e ot'ers soile& an& +(tilate& are &estroye& so

as to +aintain t'e :(ality o% notes in *ir*(lation.  The ReserveBan derives its role in currency management on the basis of theReserve Ban of India Act, $%&'.

 The Reserve Ban manages the currency operations through itsoG*es located at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar,

Belapur 3/avi umbai0, 7olata, -handigarh, -hennai, !uwahati,yderabad, aipur, 7anpur, +ucnow, umbai 3Cort0, /agpur, /ew5elhi, (atna and Thiruvananthapuram. T'ese oG*es re*ei#e%res' notes %ro+ t'e note 3resses. )imilarly, the Reser#eBan$ oG*es lo*ate& at Kol$ata, Hy&era"a&, M(+"ai an&Ne! Del'i initially re*ei#e t'e *oins %ro+ t'e +ints. These

oDces then send them to the other oDces of the Reserve Ban. The notes and rupee coins are stoced at the currency chests andsmall coins at the small coin depots. The ban branches receivethe ban notes and coins from the currency chests and small coindepots for further distribution among the public.
