B o b llermesch was a very close second with a time of 27:31. Scott llarman rounded out tiie top field in third at 27:44. Kathleen I'ord lead the field of competitive women as she left the Lincoln Ilall property. She paced the field to finish with a time of 33:00. Mary 'folson (33:48) and Karen .lohnson (34:.^6) came in second and third. '1 he humidity, the first dose of summer heat and the unforgiving Colonial Drive hill at the half-way point allowed us Icss-than- extraordinary runners (in the middlc-to-end of the pack) to work up a good sweat. Our thirst was quenched at the refreshment stand cfllciently supervised by Linda, the wife of our race director, .lim McDcrmott. .lim and his team of volunteers, including his children, are the unsung people who made this year's IJncoln Ilall a resounding success, .lim, the shirts and signs were great. PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

FACB NON VERBA DEPT.: Despite the call for a good turn outof TACONICS for North County News and for Lincoln Hall, youstayed away in droves. It's a sad comentary on YOU asiieoibers of TRRC when I review the names of the finishers andfind such a pitiful participation by the rank and file, NCNis a race which provides us with ALL of the proceeds fromthe race entry fees, and these are funds we sorely need tocover other races. The sane urderveliiing response wasreceived at Lincoln Hall, Both of these races this yearwere first rate, well-run races. Oo I read this to mean youwant fewer races on the schedule? • no problem. Does thismean you don't mind paying higher and higher entry fees forless and less? - no problem, and as a natter of fact it'sinev i tab le .

CLUB T-SHIRTS DEPT.: Had I known at the beginning of April(when the order was placed) that it was going to take aslong as it has to get the T-shirts, I would have promotedthem as fine Christmas gifts. As 1 write this, our T-shirtguys have promised them for sure two days ago, but i haven'theard from them yet. Nevertheless I fully expect to havethesi in ay hands by this Friday (June 19th) and 1 will becontacting all of you who have been patiently waiting forthem. Your forebearance is appreciated.

CLUB RUNNING SHORTS DEPT.: I have contacted a supplier inNorth Carolina who can supply us with supplex running shortswith an embroidered club logo for a very reasonable orice. Idon't plan go about this the same way as the T-shints. Thistime I'll orden up a supply in medium and lange sizes, andoffer them for sale at club events. The color will be aforest green with a multicolor logo. The objective is tocoordinate with the T-shirts.

NYC MARATHON DEPT.: 1 would like to know the names of EVERYTACONIC who has aoplied to run the NYC Marathon on 11/1/92.Please call me at 765-5074 (weekdays) and report in. Newill once again be chartering two motor coaches to take usdirectly to the start at Fort Hadsworth, which is really theonly way to do it. Stay tuned for details.

VEEKLY LONG RUNS DEPT.: Each week the group changes a bit, each week the distance and the route varies somewhat, butthe Saturday morning (7:30a#l bunch goes on. If you'replanning on a Fall marathon such as the Dutchess Classic,Marine Corps and/or the NYC Marathon you should really thinkabout hooking up with us on (most) Saturday mornings. Uemeet at the pump house construction (does this make us the'PUMP HOUSE GANG'?) site on Route 129 about a half mile westof the route 118 intersection in Yorktown, Or..if you ccmesouth on the laconic parl(way, get off at Underbill Ave., goright to route 129, then left about a mile to the same soot.My personal guarantee is that you will encounter fewer thanone car per mile on the Teatown route. Very scenic, somehills, some trails, Teatown Lake, Croton Dam, CrotonAoueduct, and more. He even put water out on the course...and frequently we follow the run with a trip to the MoheganLake Diner for well deserved pancakes. Interested? Call meor just show up. Remember the immortal words of HylesO'Rhodes: 'Vhy run alone when you car run alone in a crowd?"

Ed,

A woman's work is never done, they say. Nevertheless, Kathleen I'ord made light work of theMother's Day Race, completing the course inn i n e t e e n m i n u t e s fl a t . M a r i n a Ve a t c h w a s s e c o n dwith a fine 1Bonnie .lean Regan, who just getsbet ter and bet ter, was th i rd woman. At th i r teenyears of age, Bonnie .lean shows considerable talent, and clearly takes her running seriously.

'I'hcre was some fine running in the age groupcompetitions also, At 68, Isabel SikafTy turned ina fine 29:21 to take first in the 60+ age group. Atthe other end of the age spectrum, niizabcthFarrell, 15, was first of the 15-and-under group.Karen .lohnson {4th overall) and Ann Farrell (5thoverall) crossed the finish line in 20 minutes andchange to take firsts in the 19-29 and 30-59 agegroups. Cheryl Kohut took the 40's in 22:00. AnnMcKeague was first among the half-century club.

spots were c la imed by Fl izabcth and KathyD'Ottavio and by Denise Friedly and Diana Potts.

F'or most of the participants, the annual Mother'sDay event is more than just a race: the spirit of

celebration seems to be everywhere. Many of thewomen arc wives, mothers, daughters or girlfriendsof the regular running crowd. Adding to the partyatmosphere arc the flowers handed out at the finishline, and the post-race raflle.

It is unusual in our races for all of the women'sawards to be handed out, particularly in the oldestand youngest age groups. But in this event, everytrophy was presented: from nine-year-old Kris AnnBrady, third in the 15 and under group, to Peg('asti, third in the 60+ .

Special thanks go to our many volunteers whomade the race a success: Chuck (Teel, HarryNeeson, Pete Corsino, Fd McLaughlin, HankBuchanan. Paul Ceppcrt, Clreg Diamond, A1Cappiello, Pierce Brennan, Owen McCTuddcn, FredLoehfelm, Carmclo Roldan, .loe Porcaro, RichAdamski, Tom Church, Jim McDermott, JimHamilton and Steve Quinn.

Thanks also to Pete Corsino, Fori Jorgensen,Judy Hetkowski, Judy Freeman, Helen Gordon.Dan Caffrcy and Mclanie Bcnvenue, who contributed ralTle prizes.

F r e d fi n i s h e d t h e m a r a t h o nin 4:17 and celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary! (Funny, Patdoesn't look old enough to have been married 25 years.)

Secondly: Back home a review of "New York Running News",publ ished by the running club down south, revealed that GregDiamond and Kathleen Ford combined with a 22:48 to take eighthplace overal l in the Trevi ra Twosome Two mi le event . (That is 8thout of 500 couples) . I t can now be revealed that they both fol lowthe same d ie t : on l y vege tab les and o the r i c ky t as t i ng s tu f f . Thesimilarity stops there however, with Greg training on the roads, while Kathleen uses the Stair Master. I guess Adamski and I onlyhave to change wha t we ea t , no t how fa r we run .

Along for the fun were new club members Mark Coopeirman andTerri Udolf with a combined time of 34:04, and Nancy Young and herb ro the r Don Young comb ined fo r a 30 :22 and 100 th ove ra l l . Ma rk hasjoined the shlogers for the Saturday A.M. runs, and Greg has toldhim the secret of "prune butter." Watch out! You heard it right.. . Greg Diamonds' secret is Prune Butter. It keeps you running inm o r e w a y s t h a n o n e !
