1987 IFAC World Congress The International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) is pleased to announce that the Tenth IFAC World Congress will take place in Munich. Federal Republic of Ger- many. on July 26-31, 1987. Munich, the capital of the state of Bavaria. is many cities in one-a city of lovingly preserved tradi- tion, acity of bold modem technology. a city of arts and sciences. and a fashion capital. In addition to the technical program. a numbel of feature activities are being plannei: in- cluding receptions and social gatherings in the evenings. technical visits to plants and scientific institutes around Munich. and ex- cursions to scenic and historic sites in Mu- nich and vicinity. Papers are solicited in all areas of auto- matic control, including (but not limited to) the theory. applications, and implications of automatic control in technical. biological, economic. and social systems. Special atten- tion will be given to applications-oriented contributions. In particular, industrial com- panies are asked to present their knowledge and experience. The selection of congress contributions will be based on draft papers (15 pages maxi- mum) to promote presentation of latest de- velopments. Thcse draft papers must contain all the substantial concepts and results of the work to be reported. However. they do not have to be in final, polished form. Also. re- sults of some parts of the work still in progress (such as simulation data. opera- tional experience) may be missing but refer- ence must be made to the fact that these will be included in the final version. Five copies of the draft paper are due by May 24, 1986. Authors will be notified of acceptance or re- jection by November 1. 1986. The final pa- pers will be due February 15, 1987. Control. and Communication (C3) Workshop will be held in Monterey, California, June 2-6. 1986. The purpose of the workshop is to stimulate discussion in the field of military command. control, and com- munications systems through the presen- tation of invited and contributed papers, and critical discussion. Of special interest is the presentation of concepts and ideas that ad- dress relevant topics in C3 systems in a quan- titative manner. Attendance at the workshop is limited due to space limitations. Members of the society who wish to receive more in- formation about the workshop. and the call for papers, should write as soon as possible to: Lisa Babine. Administrator. Hardware and Software for Digital Signal Processing A special issue of the Proceedings of the IEEE dealing with hardware and software for digital signal processing will be published in September 1987. The Guest Editors will be S. K. Mitra and K. Mondal. Papers are solic- ited for submission at this time and will be selected both from invited and submitted categories. The special issue will cover areas 40 including, but not limited to. the following: general-purpose, programmable digital sig- nal processors; application-specific digital signal processors: DSP design methodolo- gies and CAD tools; multiprocessor imple- mentation schemes; novel applications of DSP.=VLSIs:efficient algorithms and archi- tectuies; hardware and software development tools for digital signal processing: DSP algo- rithmic and hardware description languages: and knon-ledge-based signal processing. Authors are encouraged to submit papers on subjects of broad interest related to one of the above-mentioned topics in particular. or new interdisciplinary research as it relates to digital signal processing in general. Prospec- tive authors are requested to submit a sum- mary outlining the planned coverage and commenting on its importance and relevance to the proposed issue by June 1. 1986. Com- plete manuscript is due on September 1, 1986. Authors will be notified of acceptance by December 1. 1986. The Asilomar Conference Grounds border on the Pacific Ocean, within a few miles of Carmel-by-the-Sea, the scenic seventeen-mile drive around the Monterey Peninsula, and the Pebble Beach and Spy- glass Hill Golf Courses. The Asilomar Con- ference is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and the Naval Postgraduate School and co-sponsored by the IEEE Control Sys- tems Society. The beautiful surroundings and the broad range of interests result in a highly productive interchange of research results as well as a pleasant time. Authors are invited to submit papers in the areas of systems and control. adaptive signal processing, digital signal processing. com- puters and electronics. and artificial intel- ligence. Several sessions will feature each of these broad areas with some of the sessions beginning with a tutorial presentation. IEEE Control Systems Magazine
