At this stage last year, I noted that the season had been

di.sappo'iriting and that there were a nunber of large probLems toovercome.

I am pleased to report that trost; of these problems have now beenarrested, however. we cannot; afford to sit back and rest on our laurels.

Quite clearly, the chili needs to look at itself objectively and core to

grips w-i th the remaining problems.

merrbership has seen a big resurgence and t..hejunior boat crew has done a

fantastic job. I was certainly very proud at the Victorian Titles wnenthe boat cxe» rowed so well against much larger and stronger clubs, The

club will be forever indebted to Kev:in lYgers for the :mamrothjob he

under took and the expert; way he coached, encouraged, and helped the

boat cxe» and active tnenbers in general,

Wye River has always been able to attract trenbers such as Kevin ~ers,

particularly when the club is in need of a neN '~rk horse ,II The chili

has been on such highs before, but; too much is left to too few, and whenthey arewom out the decline to the well-known clUb lCXolS!I see it as

the responsibility of every person whohas an Inreres t in l;\fyeRiver toc::r.t.L.J::ute - 1 D _ SCLre way so the club can go fxom s tzength to st.rength. I

The ground-work has been done, the hard winter yakka behind us, nowwe

must progress forward. There is an urgent need for assistance in fund

The 1981-82 season has been a verj successful one for our club in manyrespects. A revival of Inrerest in the club has been evident from thestart fa the season and is still evident at the end of the seasonwi t: h neR IlE!Ilbers t.rairiing for next; season.

We have been Lucky in gaining so many ne», young TIEJIbersand 01..T clubcannot help but progress if they stick with us . Equally as important

are the older people whohave rejoined and becorr.e interested again.

Patrols

Patrols this year hav-e been of a verj satisfc.ctory standard, but thereis still a lot of roan for iiliprOVEffiEnt.

Not; ma n y boat captains would be able to comrence a report such as this

with the record of achievenent that our boat crecrs have enjoyed thisseason. Naturally, I amvery proud of the efforts of our young crews.Determirlation and hard work have seen them become one of the rrost

respected groups in Victorian Surf Lifesaving.

Ov-erthe season we have attended 20 carrrtvals .

~~ehaven't once been lower rhan the semi-finals, quite oftenrepresenting in two finals or having two crews in the one final.

a) The competition in the Herald BP Great Row - onecrew came 10th, me other 13th; only junior tofinish the race.
