  • Dr. George T . Walker

    Dr. Walker has served as president of Northeast Louisiana University for t.he past seventeen years. Under his administration , Northeast has experienced Ihe growth and development necessary to become a pfogress lve university. Dr. Walker's efforts have been rewarded in many ways. Acquisition of universi ty status, a dynamic construction program and innovative curricula development have been only a few of the goa ls Dr. Walker has achieved in his years of service.

    A nati ve of Jackson parish, Dr. Walker received hi s Ph.D. from Loui siana Slate University. During his career he has written several articles and books, expressing his helief that new programs must ari se to meet needs. HI am certain that whatever changes take place in the future, NLU has the facult y and staff that will adjus t to a changing world of human needs and continue to make a significant contribution La educa tion and

    James M. Nicholson has bee n at NLU since he assumed the role of Dean of Admi nistration in 1959. In 1968 his titl e was changed to Executive Vi ce President. He received his B.S. from Louisiana Tech and later received his MBA from Lou isiana State Universi ty.

    Bel ieving co mmunication between students and adm inistration to be the ke y 10 improvement, Nichol so n ha s contributed significantl y to the tremendous g rowth in Northeast's stu de nt e nro llm e nt. Advocating s tud e nt invoh e me nt in th e deci s ion makin g processes On c.ampus, Vice Preside nt Nicholson has played a major role in the s uccess of the university.

    Glenn F. Powers was named NLU's Dean of Instruction in 1966 and the title of the position was changed to Vice President for Academic Affairs in 1968. He earlier served as the head of the Department of Physi cs at NLU. Powers received his B.S. from Gentral Oklahoma State College, his MNS from the University of Oklahoma, and his Ed .D. from Oklahoma State University. He holds membership in several professional fraternities including the American Physical Society and the American Association for Advancement of Science.

    Vice Presiden t Powers oversees the academic colleges and departmenL. and has played a major role in curricula growth.

Dr. Brantly previ ously served as direc tor of the counseling cen ler at Northeast. He was appoin ted Vice President fo r Student Affai rs at NLU J uly 19, 1974. The office of the Vice President for

    The purpose of the College of Ed uca tion is to appropriately educate future teachers in a manner that will insure excellence in learning in the years to come. The student develops a strong background of knowledge and the interpersonal skills necessary as an educator.   • The Miss NLU Pageant is held in the spring of each year. The girls are nomi naled by various organizations on cam pus. Serv ing as mistress of ceremonies for the 1974 pageant '
  • The 5 Chacahoula Beauties are elected from a fi eld of 15 girls each year. A total of 45 coeds were nominated by organizalions on campus and the 15 finalists were chosen in a campus election. A tea is held at the home of President Walke r on the day of the pageant. That night the 5 new beauties are named .

  • 1t was the 14th consecutive winning season for Coach Lenny Fant and his Tribe. The Indians won their second straight Pacemaker title by easil y roll ing over Rice and Tulane. Their vi ct ims included two conference champi on s, McNeese and Northwestern, and they cl inched the winning season with an easy road vi ctory over Texas Arlington. The team's five starters were Mike Rose, Jerry Jingles - both members o[ th e I,ODO-Point Club - David Pickett, who averaged ove r 20 points a game, Academic All American Tommy Grubb and sensational [reshman Jerry Walker.
