In the year 1942 our class was anxious to start to school. There were four of us, BettieAnnPugh, Christine Taylor, WilliamBallardand Donald Critzer. We enjoyed school that first year, especially the rhythm band.

Vacation came and went and we returned to school to be in the second grade. Naomi Erskine joined our class. Miss Louise Driscoll taught us again this year and weweredelightedwhenshetaughtusthe scarf dance. We spent many hours standing with our noses in circles on the blackboard, but with all our mischief, we went on at the close of the session.

Third grade! This year Miss Nan Wiley was our teacher and the year was filled with many joys. We remember those relays and the fun we had at recesses.

Our fourth grade teacher was Miss Maria Tilman whom we all loved, but because of poor health she had to leave us for sunny Florida. We were fortunate enough to have Mrs. John Ashby for the remainder of the year.

Vacation, what a happy time I September we came back to school under the guidance of Mrs. Grant Rogers. She was always ready to help us and we really had fun. We played ball and had a rally day for the first time. Arlene Herring joined our class this session.

Mrs. Frances Pritchett led us through the sixth grade. All of us who were interested were taught to knit. We had plenty of homework to keep us out of mischief. Mildred Morris, Shirley Shiflett and William Olinger joined us and happy to be on our way, we went on to the seventh grade.

We felt that we were really 11 big shots" now. We soon settled down and worked harq because we wanted to get to high school. Beverly Via, John Ryan and Charles Wood joined us and with our joys and sorrows we entered high school.

This was really "it". We had a title, "freshmen". After many attempts we settled down to a peaceful term. Miss Virginia Beard managed to guide us through this year of new experiences. We were well represented on the basketball teams with Mildred Morris, Shirley Shiflett and Charles Wood. After many exciting experiences the year passed and we went on to the ninth grade.

Sophomores! We had now become used to having many teachers in different classrooms. This year found us with a wider choice of subjeCts, We hit something new that we were not sure we liked, those five minute speeches as a part of the English examination. However, we have many happy memories of the year, How can we ever forget that hayride to the cabin beyond Staunton? This was our first social activity as a class and we really enjoyed it, We had our share of troubles, but with Mr. Joseph L, Trice as our leader, we managed to wade through the ninth grade,

Already our high school days were half over and we were juniors. Mrs. Maria Hurt was our sponsor this year and Ann Via came to join our troubles and fun, How could we ever raise enough money for the junior-senior picnic i' Mrs, Hurt and the girls came to the rescue and sold hot dogs, We found that we had a surplus of money. During this year some of our classmates helped the senior class with its problems. We sold tickets to the senior play, prompted the play, served as ushers for the play and the Baccaulaureate Service, Two of our boys, Donald Critzer and John Ryan, composed the school Debate Team. Naomi Erskine placed second in the "Voice of Democracy" contest in the county and won a three day all expense paid trip to Williamsburg. Many of our boys and girls became stars on the basket b a 11 teams. Miss Virginia Beard and Miss Jeraldine Morris served as chaperones on our trip to Washington. There we saw several phases of our government in action. Vacation came and we were glad to forget about books for a few weeks.

Atlast, it was the year that we had been working for! We were seniors - dignified seniors! We returned to school, thirteeninnumber, with Mrs. Hurt as our sponsor, We had a new principal whom we soon learned to love and respect.

Many of our members played on the basketball teams, Our girls' team was undefeated and won the county tournament while the boys' team placed second in the tournament, The school honored both teams with a wonderful banquet.

We selected and ordered our class rings, then waited anxiously for their arrival.

We were really excited when the pictures for the school yearbook were taken. We were well pleased with the ,results and were delighted when our class was asked to handle the sale of all individual pictures for the entire school.

We presented our play, "No Bride for the Groom", in the school auditorium on December 11, 1952. We wish to thank Mr. Alden G. Bigelow for his untiring efforts and patience in directing the play.

We realized that as seniors, it was our privilege to leave the school a reminder of the Class of 1953, After careful consideration, we chose a Bell and Howell movie projector. William Ballard, our class president, presented the projector to the school at an assembly program.

We know now that there are only a few weeks left of our high school career. As the time draws nearer to the day of departure, we want to say that we are happy to have shared these days with each other, _ with other members of the student body and with the faculty, We will always be proud to say, "We are graduates of Crozet High School."

"NO BRIDE FOR THE GROOM"

Our senior play, 'iNo Bride for the Groom", was presented on D ecember 11, 1952, in the school auditorium, '

The play began as two middle aged people were bitten by the love bug. The whirl wind courtship was one of excitement and romance throughout. There was never a dull moment and by the end of the play everyone was marrying the lover of h is choice.

The day in June at last has come When those who are so close must part, As long years of comradeship now end With solemn steps, our new lives start.

We'll all be saying as we look back The happiest days of our lives were these, The days when we learned to do our best And tried to make others be at ease.

Now the teachers 1 work is done We must find our way alone; No more they'll guide us on our way Each one of us is on his own.

In years ahead though we drift apart Memories will linger with each girl and boy, Of friends, of laughs, of work done together, Of days that we shared each sorrow and joy.

So instead of cry ing and sniffling as we part, We will think of our times So gay, And wish we could only linger, And live them all over, the very same way.

The Senior classmates of '53 With their minds so very bright Will go out in this wide, wide world, Each to brighten the free America's light.

The final school bell sadly tolls, Our books with joy are laid aside, As on the past the curtain falls, The Class of 153 parts far and w ide;
