1950’s Bulova wirst alarm watch

In the “American Wristwatches – Five decades of style and design” by Edward Faber and Stewardt Unger.This Wrist Alarm has a gold plated case with large sculpted lugs. The three crowns are used for setting the wristwatch and the alarm. The center crown is for winding and setting the wristwatch, the upper crown is for winding and setting the alarm and the lower crown engages the alarm mechanism. The dial has a yellow color and small dots every five minutes and batons for quarter. The hands and second hands are in good condition. There is a sweep second hand and red tipped alarm setting hand. The watch comes with a black leather band. Very collectible watch. It is a German movement with caliber 12B (Junghans 689.70 / J89) especially made by Junghans for Bulova. The story of Joseph Bulova started in 1875 in the New York area in opening a small jewelry store in the Maiden Lane. Years after years, Bulova offers a full line of watches. In 1926, Bulova introduce a world premier “a practical clock radio”. 1930-1940 is a period of tremendous success for the brand with its rectangular gold-filled wristwatches with highly cambered cases. In the 1950’s, Bulova is the first with electronic watches, the “Accutron”. In 1967, Bulova bought Universal then in 1979 is acquired by Loews Corp. and in 2001bought Wittnauer.
