DESCRIPTION

In 1932, El Salvador witnessed one of the biggest indigenous and peasant rebellions in Latin American history. Thousands of participants attacked military barricades and occupied villages in the western part of the country. The rebels demanded land distribution and denounced electoral fraud. In response, the government of General Martinez massacred thousands of indigenous peoples and peasants. The exhibition is composed of testimonies of elders who survived the repression; their stories challenge a culture of terror that silenced survivors for decades.
