Introduction: God's design for His creation and His children, its disorder, and His promised deliverance. Jesus' parables on God's love for the lost, told to two groups of people (Luke 15). "God loves us more than a father, mother, friend or any one else could love, and even more than we are able to love ourselves" (St.John Chrysostom, 349-407, early church father, archbishop of Constantinople). 2. Reading Scripture: Jesus in Luke 15:11-32 3. Reflecting on Jesus' Parable 3.1. Luke 15:11-21: The younger son's (a) rebellion, rejection of his father, and ruin; (b) repentance and (c) return 3.2. Luke 15:20-24: The father's response: (a) ever-ready reception; (b) merciful restoration; (c) reason for his rejoicing. 3.3. Luke 15:25-30: The older son's (a) refusal to enter the house; (b) rebellion against his father's actions; and (c) resentment of "this son of yours", shown in self-righteousness and self-pity. 3.4. Luke 15:28-32: The father's response: (a) reaffirmation of a covenantal relationship; (b) reminder of the reason for celebration; (c) request for reconciliation with "this brother of yours". 4. Gal.4:1-3: Subjection under the Law, slavery to "the elemental spiritual forces of the world" -- BC (before Christ). Old and new covenants. 5.2. 1 Thessalonians 5:8: But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

1. Introduction: God's design for His creation and His children, its disorder, and His promised deliverance. Jesus' parables on God's love for the lost, told to two groups of people (Luke 15).
