• Only 3-5% of those who give money

to the church tithe (give 10% of theirincome).




• Giving by North American

churchgoers was higher during theGreat Depression (3.3 percent of per

capita income in 1933) than it was

after a half-century of unprecedentedprosperity (2.5 percent in 2004).




• Christians worldwide had personal income

totaling more than $16 trillion in 2007 butgave only 2 percent, or $370 billion, to

Christian causes.




• If Christian churches chose to give 10% of

their income and to devote 60% of theirincreased giving to international missions,

there would be $98.4 billion available for

the international church and $32.8 billionfor domestic missions.




• Conservative estimates indicate that $1

billion a year could be all that's neededfinancially to complete the task of the

Great Commission.

Giving In God’s Story

• Our life (including our giving) must be

under God’s Story.

Tithing

• To support the Levites – 10% yearly(Num. 18:8-32)

• For community celebrations – 10%yearly (Deut. 14:22-27)

• To help the poor – 10% every threeyears (Deut. 14:28-29)

• The tithe is 23.3% for Israel. It’s thestarting point for their giving.
