SAINT THERESA OF CALCUTTA’S
“ANYWAY PRAYER”
People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of
selfish, ulterior motives; be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies; succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; build it anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; give the world the best you’ve got anyway. You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; it was never between you and them anyway.
Breathe in Love,
Exhale Peace.

BEHIND THE SCENES
The volunteer services of our parishioners are extraordinary and provide the framework for a healthy and strong religious community. Many of you know the Ministry heads and observe
the persons who each Sunday provide a visible presence of their church and parish commitment. But what about those who do the “behind the scenes” tasks that help enrich our community? Frequently we will highlight these invisible ones for your information.
Today we honor Joe Oliva. A member of the original church and presently a custom home builder. Joe is a member of the Building
Committee and has been instrumental in keeping us and our architect focused on the new church and the requirements for producing a
suitable set of drawings that will pass the critical inspection of five architects on the BARC. Thank you Joe.
18th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Seeking balance
Reading I: Ecclesiastes 1:2; 2:21–23 (on vanity) Reading II: Colossians 3:1–5, 9–11 (mystical death and resurrection) Gospel: Luke 12:13–21 (trust in God, not in possessions) Key Passage: And Jesus said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.” (Luke 12:15) Adult: When have you felt that possessions were becoming too important in your life? Child: Have you ever received a gift you wanted a lot and then found it didn’t make you as happy as you thought it would?
NEW CHURCH UPDATE
Our parish contingent appeared before the BARC on Thursday with complete drawings of the building, including construction plans. At press time, we did not have the results of the meeting to report. The purpose of our presentation was to gain approval of our building plans. The final approval would come when we submit the civil drawings, which are close to completion, and secondary to the BARC, though important, and necessary for submission to the county. Costs to date for the survey of the property are $23K. For the moment, our building committee and it sub-committees are actively engaged in their tasks with a lot of detailed decision-making in the offing when the final BARC approval is received. Keep the pledge campaign in your mind, if you haven't committed as yet, and the eventual success of our project in your prayers.
We are understandably frustrated it has taken so long to receive approval when we are comfortable with the design and believe our
plan is sound. Unlike past years, the BARC requires more and more detail before approving projects, and we wanted to make sure we have all the detail and potential requirements covered for this final phase.
Convincing five architects (members of the BAC) and others you have a sound well-financed plan was a challenge and an obstacle we had to overcome. As you are aware, patience is a virtue, and ours continues
to be tested in this quest to build a new church.

LEGACY GIFTS Don’t cancel life insurance you no longer need! Consider instruction your life insurance agent to include Church of the Visitation as a primary or
secondary beneficiary on your policy. By naming our parish as beneficiary, you’ll provide lasting financial support and possibly qualify for tax benefits as well. It costs nothing to change the beneficiary on your policy, and will mean everything to our future parish community.
CARENOTES The Spirituality of Recovery
“Writing from the perspective of someone who’s ‘Been there”, Father C. explains how overcoming addiction is more than
just a physical feat. He focuses on the spiritual heling that must be a part of recovery, reminding the reader: ‘only GOD can help and heal and make
all the difference,’ Helpful sections in this booklet include: ‘Develop a spirituality for recovering,’ ‘The spiritual life of recovery is about God
and you,’ and ‘ Turn humiliation into humility.’
