Four sons. Those born 1866 and 1880 survived.James, a carter, was a councillor with Geelong West [elected 1886]. He resigned in 1895 along with another councillor because their drays were said to have been used to cart road metal used for council work. Both stated they had retired and their sons had taken over their plant. [pg 151 Seaton, Gladys 'The Ashby Story'] James was subsequently re-elected from 1898 till his death in 1903. In the same reference on page 156 James Doull a significant property owner in the borough was said to be elected the President of the Geelong West Reform and Protection League in August 1991.
