THE PACESETTER: Capital Group Cos. tops the list of the largest money management firms in Los Angeles County, with assets of $1.39 trillion as of Dec. 31. The company operates the American Funds family of mutual funds. Capital is headquartered in downtown Los Angeles and has 28 offices worldwide. It launched a new fixed-income fund, American Funds Strategic Bond Fund, in April.

ACQUISITION: Rothschild Merchant Banking acquired L.A.-based West Gate Horizons Advisors in September. West Gate Horizons was a $1.5 billion private debt lender. With the acquisition, Rothschild now manages $3.3 billion in private debt.
