Type II/III cables – Installation

• 3594 cables installed and testedAll 2112 barrel cables (sectors 1,3,7,9,11,15)All endcap cables for sectors 1,3,7,9

494 (sector 11&15) will be installed in August

Yield: <1% cables with defects or to replace

- Mechanical defects- Damage during installation or preparation- Failed electrical test (most probably due to splice damage) after installation (replaced)

Additional inspection of damage and final verification that individual wires are strongly fixed inside the JST and FCT when they will be disconnected from dPP1.

Type IV Cables - Installation

• All type IV cables (2044+spares) going from PP3 racks in the ATLAS cavern to PS racks in US15 installed (+ connectors)

• Type IV going to USA15 almost completed– 64 double harnesses to install (128 cables)– 6 more days

• Testing in racks after installation and first cut ongoing

Completed installation is expected in one week

Type IV – Connectors in situ

• All connectors (2000+) in US15 completed on March 10 (a few were left but they are done now)

• Many racks are tested before and after plug into PS (Petr with Prague team)

• Very good yield but some rework was necessary • One rack (the very first one made more than an year ago) needs

cables rerouting (cables were cut too long by previous company)

• 2+1 CPE techs returned in mid-April for a few weeks– US side was reworked– Started 2 USA racks but left again because more USA15 racks

were needed to be completed for the full team to operate efficiently

• A team of 6 techs (1 supervisor) will return this week

• Estimated completion of connectors in USA racks: End of August

Issues• PP3

– We find problems as we plug in and test– Type IV all connected by end of July– Hopefully OK when Type III are connected

• Tester– Different flavor that work with different configuration of cable

chain– Multiple laptops failure (~ok now)– Need help at CERN of experts (Ljubljana) when testing whole

chain• Defective dPPF1

– Some faulty cables were actually due to a bad channel on dPP1 (3 endcap 3 barrel)

– Still missing some dPPF1• Connector in situ

– Delay will move installation of PS later • Need more HELP with testing until end of August (mid September)
