Sometimes it is easy for us to forget that the Church is much larger then what we see on earth. The church militant (pilgrim church) is united with the church suffering and church victori-ous. Thus, there is unity in the Church because all of Christ’s faithful—in heaven, in purgatory, and here on earth—are unit-ed to each other and to the Blessed Trinity through Jesus Christ. In this life here on earth, our unity is safeguarded by charity, by the profession of the one faith received from the apostles, by the sacraments, above all the Holy Eucharist, and by apos-tolic succession. This unity is only threatened by sin and its harmful consequences. At Mass each Sunday, we can be mindful of what unites us with the communion of saints: we repent of our only enemy: sin; we make our profession of faith together; and then, through the actions of the priest ordained through apostolic succession, receive Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist along with an influx of his charity. God bless,

Rev. Fr. Chad Droessler, Pastor 1-608-620-5849

STEWARDSHIP

Stewardship Reflection for July 29, 2018 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?” (John 6:9) The miracle of the Loaves and Fishes is the only mir-acle that is recorded six times in the Gospel. It car-ries two important messages. First, as Christian Stewards no matter how little we have, we always have enough to share. Second, Christ can take our humble gifts and do great things with them if we are just willing to let Him. No gift is too small or insignifi-cant!

Our prayers and sympathy to the families and friends of:

PRAYER Why Do We Pray the St. Michael Prayer During Mass? It has become unfortunately all to common that we hear of increasing acts of violence and evil that seem to be taking over our culture. As Catholic believers, we are aware of the spiritual battle that has always existed be-tween good and evil, and we recognize Satan as the source of all evil. But we know that our Lord Jesus Christ came to overcome evil, and it is our calling as His followers to do our part in drawing people closer to Him and away from the evil one. Last fall, under the direction of Bishop Morlino, all parishes of the Diocese of Madison have been praying the St. Michael prayer, following the petitions at Holy Mass. Through this pray-er, St. Michael intercedes on our behalf before our gra-cious Lord. We know Good will triumph over evil. Where did this prayer originate? In 1884, Pope Leo XIII had a profound and fearful vision as he was celebrating Mass. His vision involved demon-ic spirits, which prompted him to compose the St. Mi-chael prayer, which he requested be prayed at the end of Holy Masses. St. Michael the Archangel has always been known to be a powerful intercessor against evil, especially since he is recorded in the Book of Revelation as, “fighting against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they were defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven” (Revelation 12:7-9). Based on this episode in scripture, St. Michael is frequently depicted in art thrusting a lance, spear or sword into Satan, who is often depicted as a serpent or dragon. Ever since Pope Leo XIII composed it, the St. Michael Prayer has continued to be a staple of Catholic prayer and is a prayer many exorcists recommend to anyone who needs to combat the presence of evil in their lives.
