It’s a Black & White Affair
Dress in Your Best Black & White Attire, for an Evening of Music,
Dancing, Fun, and Special Treats Made by Our Culinary Staff.
MY Day Is What I Make It! Outside my window, a new day I see, and only I can
determine, what kind of day it will be. It can be busy and sunny, laughing and gay, or
boring and cold, unhappy and grey. My own state of mind is the determining key, for I
am only the person I let myself be. I can enjoy what I do and make it seem fun, or gripe
and complain and make it hard on someone. I can be patient with those who may not understand,
or belittle and hurt them as much as I can. I can have faith in myself, and believe what I say,
and I personally intend to make the best of each day.
Cookie Bake Sale February 11th & 12th Residents and culinary staff will be baking & selling
cookies for a spring gardening project. Hope you will drop by between 9am & 4pm, for some special treats!
March 10th–Family Chili Dinner Night! 4:30pm to 6:30pm
Family & friends are welcome to come warm up with our special Three-Way Chili & Dessert Night! Take time to relax, eat and chat! Cost is only $5.00 per guest. Put it on your calendar now, and please call by March 1st to let us know you will join us, (918) 355-1596!
Personal Items Residents and family, please
remember when moving your personal items into your new home, or when receiving or giving new clothing or other personal items such as blankets, pillows and house shoes, please put your name on it with a laundry permanent marking pen. We want you to receive your personal items back as much as you do, but if we don’t have a name, we can’t return them. We realize that some family members prefer to take laundry home to do, but unfortunately, at times an item does end up in our laundry, and if unmarked we are unable to return it to the owner. If you are missing an item, please let your nurse aide, nurse, laundry personnel or other staff member know, as soon as possible. At times, especially after Christmas and Mother’s & Father’s Day, we have many unmarked and unclaimed clothing items.
Almost 30 Million Americans Have to Deal
With Hearing Loss Every Day.
DO YOU: Ask people to repeat themselves frequently; have difficulty following conversations? Do you find yourself thinking others are mumbling? Do you stay in your room alone because it’s difficult to hear people, and do you feel stressed or annoyed because you strain to hear people talk?
You Can Help the Hearing Impaired by:
(submitted by Resident Leo L.) Communicating with people
who have hearing Loss. 1. Face the hearing-impaired
person directly. 2. Speak clearly, slowly,
distinctly, but naturally, without shouting or exaggerating mouth movements.
3. Avoid talking too rapidly or using sentences that are too complicated.
5. Keep your hands away from your face while talking.
6. Take turns speaking. 7. Minimize extraneous noise
when talking.

Good Habits for Preventing the Flu
1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others.
2. Stay home when you’re sick. Let the nurse know as soon as possible. You will help prevent others from catching your illness.
3. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Please discard the tissue in the trash.
4. Wash your hands with soap and water often to protect yourself from germs.
5. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs often are spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose or mouth.
6. Practice other good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat nutritious food.

Happy Birthday!!!
Feb 1 Sandra R. Feb 17 Angelica S. Feb 18 Mildred K. Feb 28 Fay W.
Purple Power Amethyst, February’s
birthstone, is a purple variety of quartz. In ancient times, people believed this gemstone could provide mental clarity, intelligence and pleasant dreams.
Employee of the Month
Rosa Saltzberg Rosa has worked at The Villa
as a nurse’s aide almost 8 years. She said, “I’m married to the nicest guy from New York for 20 years. We have a 12-year-old daughter, who is the center of our universe! I love working here & love my co-workers!”
Leap Year 2016 brings a bonus in the
form of an extra day. The day is added on Feb. 29 in order to synchronize the calendar with the Earth’s orbit around the sun, which takes about 365.25 days. The extra .25 requires the need for a leap day every four years.
Franciscan Villa Chapel Our beautiful chapel may be
available for your wedding day. For information & fees, call (918) 355-1596.
Residents and Families “Please Remember” to sign
Out/In when you are leaving and/or returning to the Villa. We need to know when you are leaving the building and when you return. This is very important for your safety! Also, please inform the nurse early if you need paperwork to give to your doctor and if you are going to be gone more than a few hours. You may need medication to take with you. Please give a 24-hour notice to your nurse when possible. Thank you very much for your help and cooperation.
The Great Backyard Bird Count
Every February, bird-watchers around the world lend a helping wing to scientists by participating in the Great Backyard Bird Count, a four-day project organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society. It’s easy to join the fun: Simply tally the numbers and kinds of birds you see for at least 15 minutes on one or more days of the count (Feb. 12–15) and submit your findings at GBBC.BirdCount.org.
Switch Hands for a Brain Boost
Exercising your brain can be as easy as switching hands. Doctors advise engaging in a familiar activity using your non-dominant hand. Try brushing your teeth, using eating utensils, writing or drawing with your “wrong” hand. Forcing your other hand to perform an unfamiliar task requires your brain to create new neural pathways and can stimulate the brain’s cognitive and creative functions.
