‘Swissco Cheetah’Cheoy Lee delivers powerful workhorse

Hong Kong boat builder Cheoy Lee hasrecently delivered the ‘Swissco Cheetah’,the first in a two-boat order of 36 metremonohull 70-pax crew boats forSingapore-based Swissco Offshore.

Constructed in aluminium, the vesselwas designed by the American branch ofAustralian design house Incat Crowther.These naval architects, who establishedtheir name with multi-hull vessels, havenow amassed significant experience in thedesign of offshore vessels and monohullcrew boats.

Such was the success of the acceptancetrials of the ‘Swissco Cheetah’, in fact, thatthe owners immediately placed orders fortwo more sister ships to be constructed atCheoy Lee.

The ABS-classed vessel measures 36metres in length, with a 7.6 metre beam

and a 1.71 metre draught. Powered bytriple Cummins KTA38-M2 engines with atotal installed power of 3,020kW, the‘Swissco Cheetah’ can carry 50 tonnes ofcargo on her 94m2 timber clad aft deck, aswell as 70 personnel and ten crew.

Twin Disc gearboxes transmit power tothree fixed-pitch nickel aluminium bronzepropellers to provide a trial speed of over

26 knots. A 74kW Thrustmastertunnel-type bow thruster has beeninstalled, controlled by joysticks atboth helm stations. Electrical supply comes from two Cummins-driven Stamford generators, each producing 91kW.

The lower deck accommodates theten crew in six cabins forward, with alarge galley, mess area and laundryroom. Seventy personnel are housed inone open deckhouse cabin with twoheads aft. Passengers are seated incomfortable and adjustable chairsfitted with seatbelts.

Finally, the pilothouse above isfitted with Bostrom helm seats at bothstations, as well as an array ofpredominantly Furuno electronics atthe forward and aft facing stations.
