NOTICES

Gates The gates leading on to the site of the church, hall and kindergarten have now been motorised and are fully operational. It is anticipated that the Clendon Road gates will be opened on Sunday mornings. To exit the site, approach the Toorak Rd gates - they will open automatically and remain open until the vehicle has cleared the entrance. An intercom system has been installed for access onto site during the week if necessary.

Lenten Studies The Ecumenical Council, meeting last week, have determined to postpone the annual series of Lenten Studies until May. This is to ensure that interesting presenters can be invited for three presentations on the theme of Christian art. The studies will take place this year in the lead up to Pentecost. More details soon.

Palm Sunday After the Palm Sunday service on 24th March, all are welcome to hot cross buns in the vicarage.

Today The Vicar and Lay-Minister Jonathan Chamberlain are leading the service at All Saints’ Kooyong this morning.

All Age service and parish barbeque.

Roster availability forms For April/May are available with this pewsheet.

Liz Hawthorne will be at the 10 a.m. service today and at both 8 a.m. and 10.a.m. services on 24th March (Palm Sunday), which will be her last Sunday before heading off to Africa. She will also be at the Good Friday Service and Walk of Witness afterwards. She has been asked to speak at other churches, hence her absence from St. John’s.

NOTICES

Printed Order of Service Vestry, meeting on 28th February, passed a motion to commence using a printed Order of Service each Sunday for the 10am service. The full text of the liturgy, inclusive of readings, Psalm, prayers and hymn words, will be provided in the pew slip - as it is for today's service. The Vestry accepted this as a way of ensuring all present can participate fully in the service, and as a mission / outreach measure for those not used to Anglican liturgy. Vestry noted that several of our neighbouring parishes (eg. Christ Church South Yarra) have done this for some time. The 8am service will continue to be led from the Prayer Book and Hymn Book.

Vale Parishioner Jenny Ricketson passed away on Tuesday 12 March. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this sad time.

Ecumenical News. The Good Friday march of witness will take place again on Good Friday, March 29th, leaving from St John's at approx. 11.30am.

The Ecumenical combined service for Pentecost Sunday will be: 7pm, Sunday 19 May at the Toorak Uniting Church Fr Brendan (St Peter's) will preach.

New Vestments A set of chasubles matching the altar frontal, in each of the four seasonal colours (red, white, violet, purple, green), together with stoles and matching burse and veil, have been purchased using the bequest of the late Joan MacLeod. These add to the chasubles made for St John's by parishioner Brenda Mouritz and mean that there is now a full set of vestments for two clerics at St John's.

Messy Church

All Welcome Messy Church is soon to kick off for the year. Sunday March 3rd is coming around and everyone is keen to start the year—especially the children. There is a dedicated team who work together to ensure all that attend have a fun filled and entertaining time. Each month a meal is shared after the children have completed activities, including craft making and games as well as a brief service in the Church.

If you would like to become involved in helping with Messy Church we would love to hear from you! We are always looking for people who could assist with the cooking (simple meals such as Spaghetti Bolognese, Roast Chicken and veggies etc) all ingredients are supplied and can be cooked either in the Buxton Hall kitchen or at home. Setting up and clearing away of tables is also a job we could use a hand with if you are free 20mins prior to Messy Church or could lend a hand for about 20 mins after

Please speak to Brad or email Nicky [email protected] if you would like to be involved even as a once off!
