The opening draw is set for 1 p.m. at Vert Stadium and will be streamed on ESPN+. The 2020 JMU lacrosse season is presented by O’Neill’s Grill. BREAKING DOWN THE SERIES JMU and HPU meet for the sixth time this Saturday, with the Dukes leading 4-1 all-time. The teams have met every season since beginning the series in 2015. JMU has won three straight against High Point. The series is tied 1-1 in games played at High Point, with HPU winning 15-9 in 2016 and JMU winning 13-11 in 2018. Last time the teams met, JMU cruised to a 12-5 victory on Feb. 23, 2019. JMU has won three of its four vs. HPU by at least seven goals, registering its largest win in a 15-4 win in 2017. MATEY, PETERSON EARN CAA WEEKLY AWARDS Following JMU’s 2-0 week with wins over Virginia Tech and UConn, Rachel Matey was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week and Isabella Peterson was tabbed CAA Rookie of the Week. It was the first career weekly award for both Dukes. Matey led the defensive effort, turning in a team-best 15 hustle stats on the week. She had seven draw controls, five ground balls and three caused turnovers. She led a defense that held VT to just two goals over the final 37:27 to rally for the win. Peterson aided in JMU’s wins by scoring a team-high five goals. She scored a career-high four goals in the Virginia Tech win and added a goal with two caused turnovers and two ground balls against UConn. DUKES OUTLAST UCONN IN NEUTRAL-SITE MATCHUP JMU scored six of the game’s final eight goals to rally past UConn for an 11-8 win last Sunday in Sparks, Md. Eight different players scored, including two apiece from Kelsey Reed, Daria Lucchesi and Taylor Marchetti. The trio scored six of JMU’s last seven goals to aid in the win. Senior Logan Brennan also had three goals off a goal and two assists. JMU dominated the circle, doubling up UConn on draws (14-7) and also led in caused turnovers (14-12). After UConn took 6-5 lead with 23:17 to play, Lucchesi and Reed netted the game’s next three tallies to give JMU an 8-6 lead with 16:41 to go. Marchetti added two goals and Brennan closed the scoring to lift JMU to the victory. The Dukes are now 4-0 in neutral-site games played at the US Lacrosse Complex - all against UConn. SCOUTING HIGH POINT• The Panthers enter Saturday with a 1-1 record after a

season-opening 18-11 win vs. Mercer and a 24-3 loss to North Carolina.

• Ashley Britton leads the team with six goals and 10 draw controls, while Nicole Pugh has four goals and an assist. Rachel Foster also has four tallies.

• Abby Hormes also has 10 draws and six caused turnovers. Meredith Chapman has eight draws and a team-high seven caused turnovers.

• Lyndsey Boswell is in her ninth season as HPU’s only head coach in school history. She has a 124-51 record with the Panthers and 148 career wins, having started her career at St. Andrew’s.

DOUGHERTY ON TEWAARATON WATCH LIST• Goalkeeper Molly Dougherty was named to the

Tewaaraton Award Watch List, marking the second season she was recognized.

• Dougherty was an Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-American and IWLCA Second Team All-South Region selection after a solid 2019 season. Voted Colonial Athletic Association Goalkeeper of the Year, she finished with a 15-4 record, she ranked third nationally in save percentage (.535) and sixth in GAA (8.49), leading the CAA in both categories.

• She’s 2-1 this season, having made 23 saves through the first three games.

SENIOR CLASS RANKS 4TH• JMU’s 2020 seniors rank as the fourth-winningest

class in school history.• This year’s class holds a 54-13 record (.806), which is

just nine wins shy of setting the new program record.• The 2019 seniors wrapped up their careers with a 62-

22 (.738) to become JMU’s winningest class.• In the 52-year history of the team, eight classes have

won at least 50 games over their careers.• Aside from the 2019 and 2020 seniors, other classes

with 50 wins include: 2018 (61), 2013 (54), 2007 (51), 2006 (51), 2017 (50) and 2000 (50).

JMU 17TH IN COACHES POLL• JMU ranked 17th in the IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll,

serving as the lone CAA school to be ranked.• North Carolina moved up to #1, while the Heels were

followed by #2 Notre Dame, #3 Maryland, #4 Florida and #5 Stony Brook.

NEARING A BIG MILESTONE• JMU, playing in its 52nd season, is just four wins away

from a massive program milestone.• The Dukes are four wins removed from reaching 500

for the program’s history.• JMU has an all-time record of 496-313-3, holding a

.613 win percentage.• The Dukes have won 12 conference championships

and made 16 NCAA appearances, highlighted by the 2018 national championship.

JMU CAREER WATCH• Four players either rank atop the JMU career charts or

are nearing the top 20 in individual categories.• Maddie McDaniel is second in draw controls (173),

needing just 73 to become the all-time leader. She’s also 13 goals shy of 100 and seven points from 100.

• Emma Johnson is tied for fifth all-time with 92 caused turnovers, which is 28 shy of the record. She’s also ninth with 130 ground balls, which is 58 off the record.

• Molly Dougherty is 11th with 310 saves and needs just seven to enter the top 10.

• Katie Checkosky has 35 assists, which is 10 away from making the top 20 list.

PURSUIT FOR FOUR• JMU seeks to become the first team in conference

history to win four consecutive CAA tournament championships this season.

• Last year, JMU became the second team to ever win three straight CAA tournament titles, joining the 2012-14 run of rival Towson.

• The Dukes have won a league-best 12 CAA tournament titles, ahead of Towson’s seven and former CAA member Loyola’s six.

JMU IN OVERTIME GAMES• JMU’s OT win over Virginia Tech marked the fifth

straight season JMU has played in an overtime game.• Since 2016, the Dukes are 6-3 in overtimes.• JMU has been in 32 overtime games since 1984, going 16-16.• The Dukes have played William & Mary to eight

overtimes, splitting those matchups at 4-4.• JMU and Towson have played seven OT games, with

the Tigers going 5-2 in those situations.
