Our next meeting on Wednesday, September 4 at 6:00 PM will give me much more to report about.

Please attend and help the Post with our fall agenda.I’m proud to announce that Post 178 received the De-

partment of Colorado’s 2013 Community Service Award (3rd place) at June’s state convention, “For a most out-standing Community Service report for 2012-2013.”

The citation continues, “Your efforts in reaching out to the community to assist in projects important to the citizens...is commendable.”

Our Past Commander, Wayne McClimans, deserves credit for this prestigious award together with every member of Post 178 who volunteers or participates. Thank you!

Commander’s reportSteve Tomlinson

All paid membership cards for 2014 will be available at the Post until Labor Day, September 2. After that date they will be mailed.

Pay your 2014 dues now and you’re invited to the Early Bird Din-ner October 12 at 6:00 PM. Bird (chicken) will be the entree at the Early Bird Dinner this year. Pay up and sign up now. Please see the

section in this newsletter about the impor-tance of paying your dues early.

Last month, I neglected to include the Legion Riders and Tonya Kiger as Con-tributors to the SAL Golf Tournament. Their support is always appreciated and deserves recognition. My apologies.

adjutant’s reportBill Radunz

Why Pay Your 2014 Dues Now?2014 dues must be paid before the end of

2013 to avoid official delinquency on January 31.Dues paid at the Post are sent to the state

level then on to national. It all takes time.If you receive a notice after paying your dues,

it means the paperwork has not yet cleared.Ignore the notice if you paid for 2014. Avoid

the notice by paying now. Stop confusion and be invited to the Early Bird Dinner on October 12. Please pay your 2014 dues today. Thank you.

Last month we sadly lost a good friend, generous contributor to Post 178, and former Auxiliary officer when Maxine Peterson passed away. We pray for God to rest her soul. We offer our

deepest sympathy to Max’s husband, Terry, and their entire family.Dear Father in Heaven, teach us not to worry but instead to bring our needs to You. May we never forget to give thanks for answers to our prayers. Let us experience Your peace, which is far more wonderful than the hu-man mind can understand. Keep our hearts quiet and in a place where we can be filled with the calmness of our faith in You. May God bless our members. Amen.

Chaplain’s reportMickey West

Please pray for these members and their families.

Our door monitor volunteers distributed 288 wrist bands and collected $567 from non-member guests at our July 4th picnic. Terry and Maxine Peterson, Dave Wattenberg, Legion Riders, and Post 178 all

made cash donations that helped pay for the cost of beer. Roni Johnson and Dave McBrien did an awesome job cooking the burgers and brats. As always, Gerry Klenda brought her sumptuous sauerkraut. Thanks to everyone who brought a side dish. Steve Tomlinson and Brad Hall coordinated the setting up of tables, umbrellas, and awnings. The Ladies Auxiliary deserves a big thank you for donations of pop and bottled water.

Thanks to Dick Moore for running the wire, we now have speakers for our jukebox in the back hall and patio.

To help fund awards for the September 14 Car & Bike Show and Smokefest we are currently raffling King Soopers gift cards ($100 and $50) and a three piece tool set. The drawing will be held on August 3. You have 3 chances to win. Tickets are a $1 each or 6 for $5.

Come and enjoy a Catfish Dinner in honor of Bennie Arledge on Friday, August 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Easy Pickn’ Band will entertain from 7 to 10 PM. Let’s all support Bonnie and their family.

Business reportBob Heer

The July 4th picnic was a blast thanks to everyone who attended and participated. There is no August meeting, so please be at our next one on Tuesday, September 3

at 7:00 PM. We’ll be making plans for a busy fall, and we need your input.Special thanks to Brad Hall, Robert

and Rene Calkum, and Pito Calkum for our new TV in the game room. It’s a beauty!

We urgently need more silent auc-tion items for the August 3 Honor Guard Poker Run. Please help if you can. Call me for details or with questions.

auxiliary reportNita Calkum

We have no monthly meeting this August because summer is for riding, and the Rid-ers are again participating in Randy Baria’s second annual fund raiser for The American Legion Honor Guard on Saturday, August 3. First-out is at 9:30 AM for the poker run;

last-in is at 3:00 PM. The BBQ starts at 3:00 PM and goes until food runs out. A live band performs from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. A silent auction, horseshoes, and Bill’s Kegs of Beer will add to the festivities. It’s all sponsored by Aspen Mortuaries, Redistribution Center Inc., and Post 178. What a great way to honor the Honor Guard, and for $15/couple or $10 per single–it’s a BARGAIN!

Saturday, August 17 is the 21st Annual Salute to America’s Veterans Rally in Cripple Creek, CO. The Rec-ognition Ride through town is billed as Colorado’s largest procession of motorcycles. For information go to: TheVeteransRally.org.

The Rider’s are continuing to work with Ranya Kelly, founder of Redistribution Center Inc. We also help Heather Grove Veterans Assisted Living with clothing donations, and we often take many of their veterans out to dinner. POW/MIA–you are not forgotten.

No meeting this month, so we’ll have plenty to do when we resume on Wednesday, September 4 at 6:00 PM.

Your attendance will be appreciated. Our Volunteer of the Month is Rocky Mountain. He

went all over the city wearing out tail feathers and selling ducks by the droves. Thanks Rock!

A hardy shout out to Tom Davies and his fiance Tonya Kiger for hustling

ducks during the picnic on Independence Day. Thanks for not taking “No” for an answer. I’ll have more news and accolades from the Duck Race in next month’s report.

Attention Golfers! See Bill Radunz if you’d like to play in a tournament for SAL National Commander-candidate and Golden Post 21 member, Mike Moss. Just $65 gets you a tee time on Sunday, September 8 at Bella Rosa Golf Course in Firestone, CO and will help elect a Colorado Commander.

sal reportTom Tucker

Duck purveyor, Tom Davies, corners Wayne McClimans as Tonya tosses a ringer.

Congratulations to the Colorado SAL for achieving the most difficult national membership award there is; “The Triple Nickle.” To win, the Sons needed to charter 5 new squadrons in Colorado, hit 105% membership, and renew 85% of 2012 members. All three were accomplished by the July 1 deadline. Nice work, Sons! And thanks to SAL Detachment Adjutant, Mark Kilstrom, for keeping everyone motivated.
