LOYOLA RAMBLERSLoyola began the season with seven straight wins and was 10-1 on Dec. 9. Since then the Ramblers have lost three of four, including a 1-2 start to Missouri Valley Conference play. The Ramblers are 2-3 in true road games this season with vic-tories at UMKC (66-56) and at No. 5-ranked Florida (65-59). Loyola is under the direction of seventh-year head coach Por-ter Moser. Moser is 6-12 all-time against UNI in his coaching career. The Ramblers are led in scoring by Aundre Jackson (13.1 ppg).

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LOYOLAUNI holds a 10-5 lead in the all-time series vs. Loyola. UNI is 6-1 in games played in Cedar Falls. KOCH GOES AT A HIGH LEVELSenior Bennett Koch leads the Panthers in scoring (13.7 ppg), field goal% (57.9%), free throw% (80.2%) and blocked shots (12) through their first 15 games. Koch ranks second on the squad in rebounding (6.7 rpg). Koch poured in 26 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 10-of-12 at the foul line vs. No. 9-ranked Xavier (12/22).

MCCLOUD SOARSUNI sophomore point guard Juwan McCloud leads the squad in assists (34) and steals (18). McCloud ranks fourth on the team in scoring at 8.6 points per game. McCloud has reached dou-ble-figure scoring six times this season. Last year, McCloud had four double-figure scoring games as a true freshman. McCloud has drained 17 three-pointers this season after making nine three-pointers during the 2016-17 season.

TWO SPARKS OFF THE BENCHUNI is getting a pair of scoring bursts off the bench from junior Wy-att Lohaus and sophomore Spencer Haldeman. Lohaus is scoring 8.6 points per game, while Haldeman is averaging 7.9 points per game. Lohaus ranks second and Haldeman ranks third among MVC players in scoring without making a start this season. Missouri State’s Reggie Scurry is averaging 9.6 points per game and has not started a game this year.

HALDEMAN ZONES INUNI sophomore guard Spencer Haldeman is draining nearly 50 percent of his three-point shots this season. Haldeman has drained a 27-of-56 (.482) from three-point range. MCLEOD CENTER UNI is playing its 12th season in the McLeod Center and the Pan-thers have made winning a priority in their home venue. UNI has posted an all-time mark of 139-37 (.790) in games played in the McLeod Center. UNI secured a school-record 16 home wins in the 2012-13 season. UNI has posted a trio of perfect home seasons since moving to

UNI head coach Ben Jacobson personifies class and dignity on and off the floor as the leader of the Panther men’s basketball team. Following the 2016-17 season, Ja-cobson was awarded a two-year contract extension that will run through March 31, 2027. Jacobson, 46, is the UNI men’s bas-ketball program’s all-time wins leader with 242 victories in 12 seasons. He has guided the Panthers to four NCAA Tour-nament appearances and four NCAA vic-tories. He is also a three-time MVC Coach of the Year award recipient. Jacobson has guided the Panthers to postseason play in seven of his 11 sea-sons as head coach, including four trips to the NCAA Tournament (2009, 2010, 2015 and 2016). UNI reached the Sweet 16 in 2010 following wins over UNLV and No. 1-ranked Kansas. UNI has recorded at least one victory in each of its last three NCAA Tournament appearances. UNI has placed in the upper half of the MVC standings in 14 straight seasons.Jacobson has guided UNI to a top-four finish in the final MVC standings in nine consecutive seasons. He is the only coach in the history of the MVC to have recorded two wins over two different No. 1-ranked teams (Kansas, North Carolina). A native of Mayville, N.D., Jacobson graduated from Mayville-Portland High School in 1989 as valedictorian. He re-ceived his bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of North Dakota in 1994. Jacobson and his wife, Dawn, have two children, Hunter (14) and Tanner (12).

NCAA Division I. UNI was a per-fect 14-0 in both the 1983-84 and 2009-10 seasons and then UNI notched a 15-0 mark at home in 2014-15. UNI set its home-court win streak of 21 consecutive victories between the 2008-09 and 2010-11 seasons. The McLeod Center opened in November 2006.

Koch then sent the game to overtime by making a free throw with :18.4 remaining. Koch’s dunk with 1:49 left in overtime gave UNI a 68-63 lead. He buried two free throws with :11.5 left to close out the scoring. Koch also grabbed seven re-bounds and posted three steals.

PICKFORD, MCCLOUD NAMED BAT-TLE4ATLANTIS TOURNEY TEAMUNI’s Tywhon Pickford and Juwan McCloud were named to the Battle 4 Atlantis All-Tournament team. Pickford averaged 12.7 points and 12.3 rebounds per game in the three contests. He pulled down 10 offensive rebounds in the tour-nament. Pickford also went for 18 points and 18 rebounds vs. North Carolina State. It marked the first 18-rebound performance by a UNI Panthers since David Gruber went for 18 rebounds against Montana on Nov. 22, 2002. McCloud led the Panthers in scoring at 13.0 points per game. He also handed out a team-high 10 assists and tallied four steals.

Koch earned his third career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 13 rebounds vs. the Braves. Pickford secured his first colle-giate double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds vs. the Braves. The last time UNI had two players record double-doubles on the same night came back on March 2, 2013, when Jake Koch (18 pts./11 rbs.) and Seth Tuttle (15 pts./12 rbs.) did it against Illinois State.

KOCH TIES MCLEOD RECORDBennett Koch tied his own McLeod Center record for field goal percent-age in a game (1.000) as he went 8-for-8 from the field vs. Wartburg. Last season, Koch went 8-for-8 from the field vs. Drake (Jan. 15, 2017).

UNI RALLIES FOR EXHIB. WINUNI rallied from an eight-point defi-cit with four minutes remaining to score a 72-66 exhibition victory over NCAA Division II UNC Pembroke on Sunday in the McLeod Center. UNI led by 18 points in the first half only to see Pembroke take a 64-56 lead with 3:58 left in the game. The Panthers scored the next 15 points including 10 from true freshman guard Tywhon Pickford and closed the game on a 16-2 run.

KOCH, CARLSON EARN ALL-MVC PRESEASON HONORSUniversity of Northern Iowa seniors Bennett Koch and Klint Carlson have been named to the Presea-son All-Missouri Valley Conference teams. Koch earned first-team all-MVC honors, while Carlson was selected to the second team. Koch is UNI’s top returning scorer at 11.0 points per game. In his last 14 games last season, Koch averaged a team-best 14.3 points and 5.6 rebounds in 24.9 minutes per game. Carlson averaged more points per game for the third consecutive season (8.3 ppg). He ranked No. 4 in the league at 36.6 minutes per game.

UNI INKS TOP-100 RECRUIT GREENUniversity of Northern Iowa head men’s basketball coach Ben Ja-cobson has announced the signing of consensus top-100 recruit A.J. Green to a National Letter-of-Intent to play for the Panthers beginning in the 2018-19 season. Green (6’4”, 175 lbs., Guard – Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls HS) is ranked among the top-100 re-cruits by ESPN (No. 74), 247 (No. 77), Scout (No. 77) and Rivals (No. 88). He is a four-star recruit and a first-team all-state pick by the Iowa Newspaper Association in both 2016 and 2017. “A.J. has a tremendous work ethic and drive to be the absolute best. It has been a lot of fun watch-ing him work and grow as player over the course of all these years,” Jacobson said. “In A.J., we are getting a player who knows our pro-gram, comes in with lofty goals and has made himself one of the best players in the country. Most impor-tantly we are getting a terrific young guy. This is an exciting day for our basketball family and for Panther Nation as A.J. officially becomes a Panther.” Green has scored 1,120 points entering his senior season at Cedar Falls High School. Green averaged 21.5 points per game and grabbed 4.2 rebounds per game, while he shot 47.4 percent from the floor (43.4 – 3-point range) as a junior. He averaged 17.8 points per game and made 44 percent of his three-point shots as a sophomore. Green scored 186 points and averaged 8.0 points per game as a freshman. Green played AAU basketball for the Iowa Barnstormers. He is the son of Kyle and Michele Green.
