Prologue

Raphael is a vampire. In order to stay strong, he feeds on his unwavering minions. They don’t object or die from it because the feeding enhances their red blood cell count.

However, if a minion undergoes a merciless bite in-cluding vampire saliva with vampire blood already in their system, they will transform into one of these immortal creatures after they die.

Unfortunately… that is what happened to Raphael’s youngest minion, Simon Lewis. And that… is where his story begins.

...in a coffee shop.

Character BiographyBefore Simon restarted life as a predator, he spent his days attending the high school by his house, roaming the streets in his sneakers and ripped jeans, and wearing a hoodie to cover his face and the bite marks on his neck.

One evening Raphael fed on Simon, and gave him his blood to restore the damage he had done. Little did they know, starving vampires were waiting in the shadows to consume the pulsing blood in his neck.

The second Raphael was finished, they leaped on Simon, leaving him drained of blood and dead on the cold pavement. A couple hours later, Simon woke up with a piercing feeling in his gums and a beaming thirst. Black cobwebs seeped through the skin of his knuckles, and he recognized this symp-tom as a need for blood.

Not wanting to endanger or hurt humans, Simon retrieved animal blood, keeping it in a portable

fridge at the back of his closet. Luckily the many characteristic word tees Simon wore made a good cover up for his dark secret.

During his time as a vampire, Simon avoided all contact with his family. Not being able to con-sume human food, the food pile behind his school quickly became infested with rats and fleas.

Meeting Isabella helped him cope with the strug-gles of being a creature of the night. She rearranges his wardrobe and his perspective on life. But upon meeting the werewolf Maia and developing feelings for her, not only does Simon have to deal with the troubles of being a vampire but also the love-trian-gle he’s tangled up in.

QWhat kind of animal blood do you prefer?

A: I’m not sure because the bags don’t specifically say what animal it was from. However, if I had to guess I’d like pig blood the best.

Q: What are your favorite X-Box games to play with Maia?

A: We like to play shooting games like halo, COD; ya know games like that.

Q: Will you take Camille Belcourt’s offer to join her vampire clan?

A: I have four days left and I still don’t know what to do. I’m afraid if I take this offer I will be be-trayed by Camille, but if I don’t I will be killed by other vampires. And if I choose wrong I might be stuck in the middle of a conflict not worth fighting for, or become the wanted from both sides for the wrong reasons.

Q: What was it like when your friends found out you were a vampire?

A: at first they thought I was terribly sick or out of my mind but when I showed them my fangs they said that it was awesome and we should say there’s a Vampire in their band so it would have more popularity. But I had to stay a secret because people might want to kill or study me as some sort of freak of nature.

Q: What are some tactics you used to keep your secret from your mother?

A: I never eat with her and say I’m with the band practicing, or I say I’m on a date. I keep blood in my mini fridge at the back of my closet covered in my characteristic t-shirts.

Q: What would you say to Raphael if you saw him now?

A: I’d ask him why he saved me. And why he be-trayed Camille.

Q: If you had the chance to be followed by minions would you take it?

A: No because I’m afraid, even of the thought of drinking human blood so I’m definitely sure that I couldn’t literally do it.

Q: How did your best friend Claire help your be-ing a vampire?

A: She helped me stay alive and not get hurt by other people or vampires because of the curse mark she carved into Simon’s forehead. When I almost died from an attack again Clair carved into my head “And the lord said unto him, Therefore who ever slayeth, clain, vengence shall be taken on him sevenfold.”

Q: Do you prefer beings a vampire or a human? Why?

A: I’d rather be a human because I wouldn’t have to lie to my mother everyday, and I could eat all the things I like and fit in with my friends again.

Q: How long did it take you to get used resist the urge of human blood?

A: It did not take very long because I did not want to drink human blood anyway, and the thought made me sick.

From the busy parks, to the icy tides.Someday we’ll decide where we want to live out our lives.

Formalities sparked, tumbling along.Keeping the heat on even though summer’s come and gone.

I would sail across the east sea, just to see you on the far side.Where the wind is cold and angry, there you’ll be to take me inside.

We’ll find ways to fill the empty, far from all the hysteria.I don’t care if we suddenly find ourselves in Siberia.

Siberia

Inside a street car, or on a mountain trail.Details, details,

You breathe in when I exhale. No matter where we are, or which way the wind blows.

Or how heavy the snow, nothing can change where we will go.

I would sail across the east sea, just to see you on the far side.Where the wind is cold and angry, there you’ll be to take me inside.

We’ll find ways to fill the empty, far from all the hysteria.I don’t care if we suddenly find ourselves in Siberia.

Siberia,We’ll leave Canada, for Siberia.

Siberia, Siberia, Siberia, Siberia, Siberia...

I would sail across the east sea, just to see you on the far side.Where the wind is cold and angry, there you’ll be to take me inside.

We’ll find ways to fill the empty, far from all the hysteria.I don’t care if we suddenly find ourselves in Siberia.

the dark times we live inI think the theme of the song SIBERIA by lights is about how true friends help each other and stay with each other no matter what occurs in their hectic lives. “I would sail across the east sea, just to see you on the far side.” Is an example of how far they would go to just get a glimpse of each other. “Far from all the hysteria” is about how they want to go to a place far away from all the excitement, and just relax and calm down.

“Where the wind is cold and angry” is about those times when you fell everything around you is trying to take you down and you have no place to go and you feel so empty inside no one wants to help you so you just try to get through by your self but you just can’t do anything. You need you friends and family to support you. The only time you do your best is when you have someone to fight for, to support you.

“No matter where you are or, which way the wind blows” I think this is trying to tell you that it doesn’t matter where you are or which roads you take. I think this means that everywhere you go you will get col-lided with decisions and when you do you have to try to settle on the right path.

“Even though summers come and gone” is a metaphor about how the years go by, and once its over you can’t do anything to change it because it over and in the past. No matter what it is or how long ago it was, you just have to go with it and dwell in the now instead of the past.

“I would sail across the east sea just to see you on the far side” is a metaphor that means that the person would travel any-

where to see them so it like a mother look-ing for her child she would do anything to regain her child.

I chose the song Siberia because it talks about how your true friends will always be there for you. In the 6 and 16th line of the song it says “Where the wind is cold and angry, you’ll be there to take me inside” and how they will protect you no matter where you go like in the song it says “Noth-ing can change where we will go” and no one else can choose your friends only you can, and when you choose them choose them carefully. The song I used is Siberia and it states, “Nothing can change where we will go”. So it is like nothing can change what will happen to them.

This song connects to the book because Simon Louise has truly great friends that are trying to help him and protect him throughout his dark times since he just turned into a vampire. They are always looking out for him and tell him about his kind and the line of power, and. Claire even puts a mark on his head that says “ And the Lord said unto him, the man who slayeth Clain shall be taken on him seven fold.” in the song it phrases that “ Far from all the hysteria.” I consider that this means that they want to escape all the commo-tion/excitement to go to somewhere far away where it is quiet and peaceful. Simon has been trying to hide the fact that he is a bloodthirsty killer beast.

I’m from the lamp like luminous lit city. I’m from the queues of houses that look exactly alike.I’m from the library with barriers of tightly bound books.I’m from the dirty avenues full of honking cars with the smell of gasoline.I’m from the green house the emerald grass and the traffic uproar.

I’m from my old compact house.I’m from the moment my mom discovered I was a Vampire.I’m from the resonance of my voice using en-canto.I’m from seeing the man in front of me suffer and recede from view into salt.

I’m from the sweet-sounding melodys. I’m from the band, and the heavy metal guitar.I’m from the garage door screeching when it was opening.

he moment that the vampires drained Simon’s body of blood his skin became pale and lifeless, his teeth began to slowly grow, slightly piercing his bottom lip.Simon Lewis, had just turned into a vam-pire and, has almost died many times be-cause of this. His friends have been merci-lessly helping him through his dark times.

Cassandra Clare’s book “City of fallen angels” is full of dingy creatures, such as vampires, werewolves, and shadow hunt-ers. The blood yearning vampires with skin bloodless and pale, feeding on blood. Werewolves with thick rigid hair cover-ing their body, these huge eerie monsters with fangs sharp as a blade. Shadow hunt-ers as fast as sound and, can soar from wall to wall. I think this book should be in the grade 8 curricular because the book has a lot of great descriptive detail, good begin-ning sentences, and a good story line.

I found the descriptive details really showed you how the scene was like in this paragraph it says, “This one was in a court-yard between several buildings. The walls had been painted with trompe l’oeil murals showing Italian gardens full of flowers. The trees, their leaves turned gold and rus-set with the fall, were strung with chains of white lights, and heat lamps scattered between the tables gave off a reddish glow. A small fountain plashed musically in the center of the yard.” It makes you feel like your part of the book and, you are walking through the garden with them looking at the vibrant artwork and the vivid luminous lights.

The beginning hooks were very luring such as “Here are the enshrined the longing of great hearts and Nobel things that tower above the tide, the magic word that winged wonder starts, the garnered wisdom that has never died.” This beginning hook makes you feel like you’re in the book see-ing what is happening all around you.

The story line is good because you can re-late the story to yourself and to normal life, like how Simon’s friends help him through his bleak times. The thought of your nor-mal life being gone forever within hours, you couldn’t eat the food you once loved or go back to the house you grew up in. Just throwing out all your memory’s of child-hood; your family that loved you so much; the wall with the marking of your height year after year; and your room you grew up with since you were born.

I think this book should be in the grade 8curriculum because it is somewhat relat-able in your daily life, it has a lot of de-scriptive detail, and the storyline is very interesting. It is good to have a book with a good story line, so that the people will keep reading and it will increase the amount of people reading significantly. Same with descriptive detail if you don’t add a lot of descriptive detail, the people would not be able to imagine the place you are talking about. This is why I think that this book should be in the grade 8-language art cur-riculum.
