Dear Friends,The month of May is always special at the JCA. Prior to transitioning into our summer mode, we have some exciting and unique programs to offer. Ladies’ Day returns to the JCA. Come pamper yourself with music, food and fun! In addition, we continue our Israel at 70 programs with author Yossi Klein Halevi, Israel Advocacy: Against all Odds and Walking the Streets of Jerusalem. This is a special year for Israel. We at the J will continue to bring compelling and thought-provoking programs.Soon we will celebrate Shavuot. This harvest holiday commemorates the giving of the Torah and Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. During this time, we count seven weeks between the second night of Passover to Shavuot. It is a time that we not only experience the physical release from slavery but the spiritual uplifting of receiving G-d’s commandments. It is customary to eat dairy products to represent the land of milk and honey, which was promised to the Jewish people. In our tradition, eat lots of ice cream or blitzes and don’t worry about the calories! In June, Allison Korman Shelton will end her term as JCA President. I want to thank Ali for her wonderful service to the J and our community. Under her leadership, the JCA has reached all-time highs in membership numbers, top tier Benchmarking scores, the establishment of the Sol and Hilda Goldman Scholarship fund, a revised and renewed Cultural Arts Festival and an amazing 30th Anniversary Celebration. Ali has also led us through some turbulent times during a heightened awareness of security. Ali, I am very grateful for all that you have done for the JCA and for the partnership that we shared. We are all better because of you!Wishing everyone a happy Shavuot and healthy and safe Memorial Day.Sincerely yours,
