Antarctica–Pioneering American Explorations of the Frozen ContinentJANUARY 30–DECEMBER 20

Exploration and Adventure! This exhibition highlights expeditions into the unknown of Antarctica and Texas Tech University’s own Dr. F. Alton Wade. Learn about the fate of the Snow Cruiser, an innovative research facility on wheels. Discover the preparation it took to explore a dangerous climate that could be 70 degrees below zero. Sled dogs, penguins, ancient ani-mals and a mummified seal add life to this frozen continent and exhibition.

CURRENT EXHIBITIONS

Our sincere gratitude to the following foundations for their support of the Museum’s educational and outreach initiatives.

40th Annual Western Federation of Watercolor Societies ExhibitionTHURSDAY, APRIL 16 – WEDNESDAY, JULY 15

The New Mexico Watercolor Society, through the foresight and work of Dr. David Gale (1915-1980), founded the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies (WFWS). It is comprised of twelve watercolor societies located in Western states with a combined membership in excess of 4,500. This year, the WFWS annual juried exhibition returns to Lubbock. Out of the usual 1,100 submissions, 100 are selected for the exhibition and represent the very best in the craft. They range from realism to abstract, traditional to contemporary in subject matter and form. The West Texas Watercolor Society has had the distinct honor of hosting the exhibition in Lubbock four times previously (1980, 1989, 1998, 2006) and is proud to host the event in 2015 in collaboration with the Museum of Texas Tech University.

The Embroiderers’ Guild of America Presents: Through the Needle’s EyeSUNDAY, MAY 3 – SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

The Embroiderers’ Guild of America’s National Exhibit Through the Nee-dle’s Eye is a showcase of the best in artistic and technical embroidery. This juried exhibit features contemporary embroidery from across North America. The works include both traditional and contemporary embroidery techniques employed to create clothing, wall pieces, jewelry, vessels and sculpture. The exhibition shows the diversity of embroidery and how this age-old art form continues to be practiced by 21st century artists.

Ansel Adams: American Master, Selections from the David H. Arrington CollectionFRIDAY, AUGUST 14 – SUNDAY, JANUARY 17

This exhibition of 103 photographic works of art surveys a lifetime of creative insight and photographic acumen by American master, Ansel Adams (1902-1984). Adams prevails as a premier artist of the 20th century and his images established the standard for American landscape photography. The masterful photographs have been curated from one of the largest collections of Adams’ art work in the world. Midland, Texas, resident David H. Arrington, an advocate and student of Adams’ artistic methods, has gathered together not only many hundreds of Adams’ original works but the most iconic and finest prints that the artist ever completed.

The Remnant Trust, Inc.OPENS THURSDAY, JULY 2ND

A new partnership between Texas Tech University and The Remnant Trust, Inc. brings a collection of original, first edition and rare early written works to the museum. These works are intended to inspire an elevated public understand-ing of individual liberty and human dignity through hands-on availability of the world’s great ideas in original form. The Remnant Trust, Inc. will maintain a permanent presence in the museum promoting the ideas of individual liberty and human dignity.
