14th annual Open Studio Tour offers new perspective on art

It’s hard to believe that our Open Studio Tour is now in its teenage years, celebrating like never before a new perspective on art that explores diversity, energy, creativity and tradition. So, for two summer weekends, July 15-16 and August 19-20, we invite you to explore the richness of a place we call Home.

What we bring you this summer is a select group of artists living and working in the coastal communities of Dartmouth and Westport, MA, and Little Compton and Tiverton, RI. The terrain that inspires this artistic diversity includes everything from forests, farmlands, homesteads, and saltwater landscapes. For those of us who consider this home, summer residents or year rounders, do so because this region is a rare slice of coastal heaven, a place where you can find family farms living next to ocean escapes and all kinds of recreation.

We are also home to art centers, galleries, and working studios featuring the work of internationally renowned and local artists. Then there are many unique artisan chefs and eateries that make the best use of locally sourced ingredients, making the South Coast a must-visit and must-taste destination!

Each year our tour artists submit their best work for a contest in which the top three works are chosen and used in our promotions. Louise Roger, co-owner with her husband of the Rogers Gallery in Mattapoisett, MA, was our juror. Rogers has a fine reputation for showing high-quality art and crafts. According to Rogers, the winners for 2017 are Steve Remick, Phyliss Dobbyn Adams and Barbara Healey. Their paintings are featured in this brochure.
