OUR MISSION As members of Saint Catherine of Sienna Roman Catholic Church, we are committed by our Baptism to spread the teachings of Jesus Christ by living our faith in loving service to all people. Inspired by the Holy Spirit and through worship and prayer, we use our time, talent and treasure, to nourish the soul, care for the needy, minister to the alienated, nurture the children and WELCOME all people into our community of faith.

And with the Saint Vincent de Paul Faith Community united as one parish, we are

committed to assisting our members in both the spiritual and temporal needs of life. We are a community with heart committed to “Let all things be done with Charity” and show we are disciples of Christ by our love for one another.

“DON’T FORGET TO SAY YOUR PRAYERS”

Lord, give us the eyes of Jesus to see our neighbors and the strangers we meet. Teach us what it means to love the stranger as we love ourselves. Forgive us for our selfishness, for our silence, for not caring enough for the strangers who come to our communities. Teach us to love and care for the stranger the way You do. Amen.

“In My Father’s house there are many dwelling places.”

The en re month of November is dedicated to the souls of the departed. Universally throughout the world, that month begins with a celebra on of those souls we call Saints: the men and women who went before us marked with the sign of faith and gained entrance into the dwelling place Christ prepared for them (cf. Saint John XIV:1-3). The remembrance of those souls, especially when it occurs during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on All Saints’ Day, allows us to be not afraid of what awaits those departed souls we remembered on the following day: All Souls’ Day.

Here at Saint Catherine of Sienna in Franklin Square, no less than two hundred and twenty-two of those souls were remembered in a solemn 7:00 P.M. Mass of Remembrance on All Souls’ Day, and were included as well in our All Souls’ Day Novena of Holy Masses. And while that Novena ended on 11 November, the names of the men and women we remembered in that special All Souls’ Day Mass of Remembrance will remain at the Bap smal Font throughout the en re month of November. There, under the watchful eye of Saint Joseph, the Patron Saint of a Happy death, our “Eternal Rest grant unto them O Lord and let Perpetual Light shine upon them” will bear inspira onal witness to our faith in Jesus through, with, and in Whom we pray: “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” (Saint Luke XXIII:34).

Beyond those souls most familiar to us, it is incumbent upon us to pray also for those departed souls who may no longer have surviving members of their immediate family to intercede for them.

Let us pray for:

Clara Barton, and trust that our prayers will help her enter the dwelling place prepared for her by Christ, and once arriving, may she in turn pray for Nurses and Doctors.

Vincent (Vince) Lombardi, and trust that our prayers will help him enter the dwelling place prepared for him by Christ, and once arriving, may he in turn pray for Football Coaches.

Steven McDonald, and trust that our prayers will help him enter the dwelling place prepared for him by Christ, and once arriving, may he in turn pray for Police Officers.

These souls are certainly included when we pray: “May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in Peace”, but our remembrance of them by name will help them not only keep their place in our history books and the public square, but it will help them obtain their place in Heaven!

OUR SPECIAL FEASTS OF THE WEEK (WITH HELP FROM THE ROMAN MISSAL)

SAINT ELIZABETH OF HUNGARY (MEMORIAL: 17 NOVEMBER)

O God, by whose gi Saint Elizabeth of Hungary recognized and revered Christ in the poor,

grant, through her intercession, that we may serve with unfailing charity

the needy and those afflicted. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,

Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever. Amen.

SAINT MARGARET OF SCOTLAND (FEAST: 16 NOVEMBER)

O God, who made Saint Margaret of Scotland wonderful in her outstanding charity

towards the poor, grant that through her intercession and example we may reflect among all

humanity the image of Your divine goodness. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,

Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever. Amen.

SAINT ALBERT THE GREAT (FEAST: 15 NOVEMBER)

O God, who made the Bishop Saint Albert great by his joining of human wisdom to divine faith,

grant, we pray, that we may so adhere to the truths he taught,

that through progress in learning we may come to a deeper knowledge

and love of You. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,

Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Pope Francis shared: "Saints are witnesses whom we venerate and who in thousands of different ways bring us to Jesus Christ, the only Lord and Mediator between God and humanity. They remind us that holiness can blossom even in our lives, however weak and marked by sin." Celebrate lives of Saints this week, consider a ending Holy Mass on their Feast Days, and/or offering these prayers taken from the Roman Missal:

SAINT ROSE PHILIPPINE DUCHESNE (MEMORIAL: 18 NOVEMBER)

Almighty God, who filled the heart of Saint Rose Philippine

with charity and missionary zeal, and gave her the desire to make You know among all peoples,

grant us to follow her way and fill us with the same love and zeal

to extend Your Kingdom to the ends of the earth. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,

Who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Eucharist-

Fruit of the Tree of Life

Do this in remembrance of Me. Two things should be noted here. The first is the command that we should use this Sacrament, which is indicated when He says: Do this. The second is that this Sacrament commemorates the Lord’s going to death for our sake.

So He says, Do this. Certainly, He would demand nothing more profitable, nothing more pleasant, nothing more beneficial, nothing more desirable, nothing more similar to eternal life. We will look at each of these quali es separately.

This Sacrament is profitable because it grants remission of sins; it is most useful because it bestows the fullness of grace on us in this life. The Father of spirits instructs us in what is useful for us to receive His sanc fica on. And His sanc fica on is in Christ’s sacrifice, that is, when He offers Himself in this Sacrament to the Father for our redemp on, to us for our use. I consecrate myself for their sakes. Christ, Who through the Holy Spirit offered Himself up without blemish to God, will cleanse our consciences from dead works to worship the living God.

Nor can we do anything more pleasant. For what is be er than God manifes ng His whole sweetness to us. You gave them bread from Heaven, not the fruit of human labour, but a bread endowed with all delight and pleasant to every sense of taste. For this substance of Yours revealed Your kindness toward Your children, and serving the desire of each recipient, it changed to suit each one’s taste. He could not have commanded anything more beneficial, for this Sacrament is the fruit of the tree of life. Anyone who receives this Sacrament with the devo on of sincere faith will never taste death. It is a tree of life for those who grasp it, and blessed is he who holds it fast. The man who feeds on Me shall live on account of Me.

Nor could He have commanded anything more lovable, for this Sacrament produces love and union. It is characteris c of the greatest love to give itself as food. Had not the men of my tent exclaimed: Who will feed us with His flesh to sa sfy our hunger? As if to say: I have loved them and they have loved Me so much that I desire to be within them, and they wish to receive Me so that they may become My members. There is no more in mate or more natural means for them to be united to Me, and I to them.

Nor could He have commanded anything which is more like eternal life. Eternal life flows from this Sacrament because God with all sweetness pours Himself out upon the blessed.
