ERMA FIRST BWMS
System consists of:
Pre- filter
Cyclonic separator
Electrolytic cell
Neutralization unit
Modular design. Each module has capacity of 100 m3/hrand consists of a separator and an electrolytic cell.
For systems with hydraulic load more than 500 m3/hr,then a 500 m3/hr electrolytic cell is used instead of 5 x100 m3/hr

Corrosion issues-Is free chlorine corrosive?-It can be at high concentrations and at
long disposure (Michigan Department ofEnvironmental Quality, 2002)
-Coating manufacturers statement
- Coatings may loose their durability when
disposed at ballast water with free chlorineconcentration 3-5 ppm

Corrosion testing
The corrosion effects of the treated ballast water fromERMA FIRST BWTS on pipes and ballast tank coatingsare being evaluated according to MEPC.59/2/16guidelines. According to these guidelines different
substrates coated ( MSC.215.82) and uncoated madeby different materials commonly found in the ballastingpiping and tanks ( such as low carbon steel, StainlessSteel, Cu and Ni alloys and non metals such as gasketand seal materials) are exposed to treated an un
treated water for a minimum duration of 6 months.
