Thisyearwetookexistingprogramsandgrewtheminwaysthatreachednewanddiverseaudiences.CherylStrayedspokehonestlyandmovinglywithourWITSstudentsintheAdaCountryJuvenileDetentionCenteraswellastoagroupofWildWomen.Camperslearnedtobejournalists.Audiencemembersheardfromnewandchallenginglecturers.Adultwritersexploredblogging.Storyfort,afourdaycelebrationofstories,presentedasapartofTreefortMusicFestival,wasborn.Aswelookforwardtoour20thbirthdayweknowwehaveastrongfoundationuponwhichtobuildournewchapter. WRITING CAMPS

CABIN WRITING CAMPSareweek-longworkshopsforIdahokidsingrades3-12.Eachcampisledbyaprofessionalteaching-writerwhodesignschallengingcreativewritingenrichmentintheirgenreofexpertise:poetry,fiction,memoir,journalism,andplays.Throughhands-onexploration,campstudentspracticethetoolstheyneedinordertowritewell.Studentsencounterchallengingpromptsandwritelotsofnewwork,beforereceivingin-depthcritiquetowardrevision.Attheculminationofwritingcamp,studentssharetheirwritingat a public reading and publish a revised piece in The Cabin’send-of-summerprintanthology,Camp Fire.Writingcamphelpsignitealifelongloveofreadingandwriting,andgivesstudentspracticaltoolstoapplytheirpassionforwritingtotheirpracticeonthepage.

Inthesummerof2014,TheCabinservedover350campstudentsinBoise,GardenCity,andHailey.Weawarded$2,700inscholarshipsforcampbasedonstudentfinancialneed.Anadditional100studentswereservedatfreewritingcampoutreachprogramsattheFortHallShoshone-BannockreservationandinGardenCityattheBoys&GirlsClub.

WORD WORKSHOPS support the Treasure Valley’s vibrantcommunityofwritersthroughchallengingsmall-groupclasses led by published authors. In 2014, TheCabinpresented workshops by memoirist and humorist AKTurner,poetDannyStewart,poetandmemoiristNicoleLeFavour,andfictionwriterValerieKiesig.

WORD READINGS helpTreasureValleyreadersdiscovernewwork by local writers through free showcases at TheCabin.In2014,TheCabinpresentedfreereadingsbyfictionwriterClaireVayeWatkins,poetKerriWebster,fiction writer Malia Collins, and journalist NathanielHoffman.

DROP-IN WORKSHOP is TheCabin’s free and open writingworkshop, held from6:30-8 PMon the first Tuesdayof each month. Drop-in is hosted by local publishedauthorswhocreateuniquepromptsdesignedtoinspireasupportivecommunityoflocalwriters.

WRITERS IN THE ATTIC is an annual writing contest and publicationopportunity for local authors.It is designed as a stepping stone for newwriters providingguidanceonhowtosubmitworkforpublication,andavenuethatshowcases their talent in ourcommunity. All Idaho writersaged 18 and older are invited to submit work on a theme. Thecontest is blind judged and thewinning work is published in

events, publishing

an anthology. Nineteen Idahoauthors were chosen to be partof the2014Writers in theAtticanthologybook,Nerve.

The first annual STORYFORT tookplaceduringTreefortMusicFest,March20-23rd,2014.Readingsand performances featuredauthors fromBoise,Northwest,and beyond, that were free andopen to the public. Storyfortwas presented by The Cabin incollaboration with other storyandpoemfocusedorganizations.
