The appendixes of this document include up-to-date information on special functions, operations or features.

    2 Terms and definitions/

The following terms and definitions are used in these operating instructions to describe system states and operations of the fire detection control panel FMZ5000. FMZ5000

    2.1 System states/

If there is at least one message from a system condition in the control panel, the control panel is also by definition in this system condition. Apart from the normal condition, there are 4 other system states; the control panel can either be in the normal condition or in multiple or all other system states at the same time. 4 The system states are arranged according to priority, which also applies to the way the messages are displayed in the LC display. Every message is allocated to a system condition according to basic setting or configuration. LC2.1.1 Normal operation/There is no alarm, fault or shut-down message no object is in the test condition. The fire detection system is ready to receive messages. 2.1.2 Alarm condition/There is at least one alarm message. Alarm messages are not only fire detection messages, but all messages that have display priority 1 (highest priority) according to basic setting or configuration. 2.1.3 Fault signal conditionThere is at least one fault message of a system device. Fault messages are all messages that have display priority 2 according to basic setting or configuration. 2.1.4 Off-conditionAt least one system device is out of operation. Off messages are all messages that

  • Minimax (Beijing) Fire Fighting System Co., Ltd.

    1.3_Page 11

have display priority 3 basic according to setting or configuration. 2.1.5 Test conditionAt least one system device is in test condition. Test condition messages have display priority 4 (lowest priority) according to basic setting or configuration. 2.1.6 MiscellaneousApart from the above-mentioned messages, there are further messages. These are allocated to display priority 4 according to basic setting or configuration. 4

    2.2 Message categories/

An overview of the system states, corresponding messages and their message category

    Message Condition Message category

    Fire Alarm condition 1(highest)

    Fault Fault condition 2

    Off Shut-down condition 3

    Test Test condition 4

    Miscellaneous Miscellaneous 4

The condition and the message category determine the priority by which the messages are displayed on the fire detection control panel display. A different category can be set temporarily.

2.3 Message memory for current messages/

The memory contains all current messages from the entire fire detection system and the control panel of any priority. Experience has shown that the memory has sufficient capacity. If in exceptional cases the capacity is exceeded, a new message overwrites the oldest messages of the lowest priority.

2.4 Message memory for history messages/

This is where all messages (reset messages included) are stored in chronological order. The memory contents can be displayed by operating the panel. By means of the saved time stamp a complete logging of all messages and operations is possible. The memory has a capacity which, in normal operation, is designed for covering several months to years. When the capacity is exceeded, a new message overwrites the oldest message in the memory.

    1.3_Page 12

    2.5 Detector/

General term for all fire detectors for all burning characteristics used in the fire detection system.

    2.6 Detector group/

A logic grouping of several fire detectors - also including different detector loops and loop modules - with a configured designation e.g. group number.

    2.7 Conventional line/

A line with a maximum of 32 fire detectors that display messages and are to be operated under one common group number. The wiring is monitored for breaks and short circuits. 32

    2.8 Conventional detectors/

These are detectors that are switched to a conventional line or a loop coupler.

    2.9 Detector loop (loop)/

A loop for a maximum of 126 participants that can be individually addressed. Devices of this loop may be fire detectors, input and output modules, horns or couplers for conventional detectors. 126

    2.10 Control group/

A term for the wiring of a device and the device itself which is triggered by the control panel. This may be, for example, a horn or the solenoid valve of an extinguishing control. The supply network is always monitored for wire breaks and short circuits.

    2.11 Alarms/

This term comprises all messages (not only fire detection messages) with display priority 1 (highest).

    2.12 Public alarm transmission device/

A device which forwards a fire detection message or fault message to a receiving control unit for fire and fault messages.

    2.13 Report printer/

Logs all messages including the reset messages on a paper strip including a time stamp with date and time accurate to the second.

  • Minimax (Beijing) Fire Fighting System Co., Ltd.

    1.3_Page 13

    2.14 Control panel buzzer/

Acoustically indicates all condition changes of the control panel (off not included). There is a different sound for alarms and other messages.

    2.15 External alarm/

This is transmitted by means of alarm devices that are installed in the monitoring zone to the persons present in this zone. These alarm devices normally include horns, flash lamps or warning lights.

    2.16 Date/time/

All messages are always displayed and saved with the date and the time accurate to the second.

    2.17 Service code

Serves to verify the authorization to carry out certain operations. Provides authorization for access levels 2, 3a and 3b. 23a3b

    2.18 Alarm counter

Every transition into the alarm condition increases the counter by one. The transition is triggered by a fire detection message. The counter value is permanently stored.

    2.19 Query function

Option to activate a public alarm transmission device for fire within a short time. After a fire detection message has been received, a person can quickly start a further, longer time. Within this time, the fire detection message can be verified. In the event of false alarms, the activation of the remote transmission unit can be avoided by operation the fire detection panel.

    3 General operation

In principle, all system parts can be operated. System parts can either be physically present factory assembled units such as conventional lines or relay, parts that have been created due to the configuration such as detector groups or extinguishing zones or components of the control panel or the entire system. The authorization for operation is divided into so-called access levels with different authorization verifications. Authorization is verified by entering the service code or by means of a transponder card with the respective coding.

    3.1 Access levels authorizations/

The operation of control panel requires the authorization of the operator. These authorizations

    1.3_Page 14

are divided into four access levels (1, 2, 3a and 3b). From level 2 onwards, they are protected against unauthorized operation by different code words. Level 4 exclusively serves purposes of maintenance and servicing. 123a 3b 2 4
