THE MOST HOLY
BODY AND
BLOOD OF CHRIST
PRECIOUS BLOOD On this solemnity we focus our attention on the Body and Blood of Christ. We listen to the story of the renewal of the old covenant, which Moses sealed by splashing the blood of animals on the altar of sacrifice, as well as on the people. Jesus, whose blood is the blood of the new covenant, shed that precious blood on the cross, saving us from sin and promising us everlasting life. Blood is the life source that courses through our bodies. The precious blood of Christ is the life source for our spirits. Today may we, like the psalmist, offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, whose body and blood strengthens us to bring the Good News to everyone we meet.
© Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you (Exodus 24:3-8). Psalm — I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord (Psalm 116). Second Reading — Christ is the mediator of a new covenant; his blood will cleanse our consciences (Hebrews 9:11-15). Gospel — This is my body. This is my blood (Mark 14:12-16, 22-26).
READINGS FOR THE WEEK OF 5/28-6/2 Monday: 1 Pt 1:3-9/Mk 10:17-27 Tuesday: 1 Pt 1:10-16/Mk 10:28-31 Wednesday: 1 Pt 1:18-25/Mk 10:32-45 Thursday: Zep 3:14-18a or Rom 12:9-16/Is 12:2-3, 4bcd, 5-6 [6]/Lk 1:39-56 Friday: 1 Pt 4:7-13/Mk 11:11-26 Saturday: Jude 17, 20b-25/Mk 11:27-33

A PRAYERFUL INVITATION
Looking for some peaceful, quiet time
with the Lord?
The chapel is open from 7:30
AM to 3:30 PM Monday through
Thursday and Friday from 8:00 AM to 12 noon.
Votive candles are available.
Dear Friends,
On tomorrow, Monday, May 28, our nation will observe Memorial Day, a day on which
a grateful nation pauses to honor the lives, deaths, and memories of those brave men
and women who served our nation, both in times of war and peace.
One of the primary benefits of a national holiday is that of allowing us to break the
daily routine in order to focus once again, even if briefly, on what it means to say we
are “one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.”
Memorial Day will be a holiday for many, but a “hollow” day for others. For some, it will commemorate one of
their greatest losses – a mate, a child, or a parent. Memorial Day will be a reminder that the world is much
emptier than it once was. Memorial Day will re-open some old, but deep wounds.
Part of our grief in remembering is that we recall happier days when loss was nowhere in sight. We recall the
birth of a son or daughter who has since been taken away from us. We recall a wedding day when life was
bursting with love and promise. We recall a graduation day when none of the expectations involved dying on
a battlefield in a foreign country.
Tomorrow’s observance goes back to the days of the Civil War when Southern women began the practice of
scattering spring flowers on the graves of soldiers from both the South and the North. It was their way of
remembering those who had died in battle. That tragic war ended in 1865 and never again have we taken up
arms against each other, South against North.
Memorial Day, therefore, is a time for remembering, for remembering all those who died in the service of their
country. But it is also a time to remember to increase our own sense of gratitude. We are a people deeply
indebted to the past because all of the things which we enjoy today were provided for us and passed on to us
by previous generations. These include our democratic form of government, the churches in which we worship,
the schools in which we were taught, the homes in which we were raised.
It is also a time to remember all that God did to save us. The prophet Micah foretold of a day “when nations
shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks; one nation shall not raise the sword
against another, nor shall they train for war again.” ( Micah 4:3)
St. Paul urged “that all our thoughts should be wholly directed to all that is true, all that deserves respect, all
that is honest, pure, admirable, decent, virtuous, or worthy of praise. Then will the God of peace be with
you.” (Philippians 4:3)
In Matthew’s Gospel, “Blessed are the peacemakers; they shall be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
So in God’s plan for us, memory plays a key role. We remember the past to learn from it and increase our
sense of gratitude. We remember those who gave their lives in service to our country in order that “this nation
under God shall have a new birth of freedom and that the government of the people, by the people, for the
people, shall not perish from the earth.” (Abraham Lincoln)
Happy Memorial Day and may God bless all of us and our families!

GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER
UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
May 27, 2018 Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
Happy Trinity Sunday! In today's Gospel, we hear Jesus declare together all three Persons of the Trinity. "Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the S o n , a n d o f t h e H o l y S p i r i t . " When we speak of the Trinity, two different theological words are sometimes used: immanent and economic. The immanent Trinity is the life of the three Persons within themselves, the inner harmonious relationship between Father, Son, and Spirit. We see this in the Gospels when Jesus speaks of his Father and promises to send the Holy Spirit. The term "economic" has its roots in the Greek word oikonomia, roughly meaning "household management." The economic Trinity is our three-Personed God's relationship with creation; it is creation and redemption and ongoing relationship with us. Made in the image and likeness of God, we are called to imitate God's immanence by giving and receiving love with one another in community. However, this is not limited only to those close to us, though that's where love often starts. We also imitate the economy of God when we go out, when we extend our love and care in a life-giving way. "Go therefore ?" Every believer is sent on mission. Every believer is invited to follow Jesus and the Apostles "to the nations," to the margins, to the people who require a little extra reach. This could be a distant relative, the residents of your local homeless shelter or even the forgotten neighbor next door! When we love well, we create something beautiful-a relationship, a holy moment, a foretaste of heaven. This Trinity Sunday, take some time to examine the relationships in your life. How well do you love those nearest to you? How well do you reach out to those farther away? How are you creating something beautiful?
OUR SACRIFICE Let us offer Christ the great universal
sacrifice of our love. For he offered his cross to God as sacrifice in order to make us all rich.

For your own sake, please be considerate…
For your own sake, please be considerate and NOT park in the spaces reserved for the customers of the adjacent shopping center. In
the past several vehicles received written warnings...citations will be issued in the future ($187.00 per offense) or the vehicle will be towed at the owner’s expense.
PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE ADJACENT SHOPPING PLAZA.
Mark your calendars for the next upcoming blood drive which will be held
Sunday, July 8th, 2018 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM
Why should I give blood? Who needs it?
Many have need for human blood and blood components. For instance, the new born baby, the cancer patient, the surgery patient, the burn patient, and of course the accident victim. Or maybe you know someone who has needed blood such as my 7-year-old nephew in his fight of cancer. Giving of yourself in the form of a blood donation for another person is one of the greatest gifts we, who are at least 17 years of age (no upper age limit) and are reasonably healthy, can give to another person. The Holiday time put a great strain on the blood supply. So Please if You CAN do Make a Donation in St Thomas Community Center on Sunday July 8th, 2018 at 7:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
STM CATECHUMENATE

CHILDREN’S CORNER
GROWING WITH THE GOSPEL
Sharing the Gospel
When you were baptized, the priest used the same words as Jesus in today's Gospel. He said, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." The water of baptism is God's bath of forgiveness. Baptism washes all your sins away. Baptism makes you a forgiven child of God so that you can enter heaven's gate.
Prayer
Lord, when I hurt others, teach me to say, "I am sorry. Will you forgive me?"
Mission for the Week
When others hurt me, I will say, "I forgive you."

FATHER’S DAY CARDS
Celebrate the men in your life...whether they are living or no longer with us. There will be cards available the weekends of June 2/3 & June 9/10 in the foyer of the church. The suggested donation is $5.00. All of these fathers will be celebrated and remembered at Mass on Father’s Day.
