Meetings

March 4, 2013

Sympathy Cards were sent to Bonnie Rhodes (death of sister) and to Pam Hailey (death of brother).

Thinking of You Card was sent to Harry Pope; Harry has since died and a Sympathy Card was sent to his

family.

Thinking of You Gift Cards were sent to Cynthia Odom (surgery) and to Lewis Herring (surgery).

Cecelia Hicks thanked everyone who helped serve food at the Annual Larry Collins Memorial Benefit for

the American Cancer Society.

Shag-O-Ween Committee has been meeting and making plans for the 2013 party.

Margaret Cotto, Chairperson of Ways and Means Committee, has been working with club members to

gather ideas for fundraisers. T-shirts and License Plates will be reduced to half-price to sell the existing

supply. Carlos Cotto was in attendance and presented a fundraising idea for the Club – suggesting a

10x10 Basketball Pool where people could purchase chances to be a prize winner, with remaining money

going to the Club to support administrative costs. The Board agreed the idea was allowed and Carlos

volunteered to present and manage the fundraiser.

After much discussion, the Board voted to change the name of the May party fundraiser from Memorial

Madness to May Madness and to have the event in Goldsboro on May 18 this year instead of at Atlantic

Beach on Memorial Day weekend.

It was noted a photo article about Sugarfoot Shag Club was in the March Buzz Around Wayne County, a

local newspaper.

April 1, 2013

Thinking of You Cards were sent to Ken Banks and Sharon Banks.

Sympathy Card was sent to Kathy Turner upon the death of her Aunt.

The Sugarfoot Gazette Newsletter and the Sugarfoot Shag Club Membership Application are available on

the Club‘s web site.

Club photos are up to date on the Sugarfoot web site; members can download and print photos.

Fundraising efforts: Inventory of 18 T-shirts ($6 each) and 11 License Plates ($5 each) remain to be sold.

Efforts to obtain Shag auto decals to sell. 10 x 10 Basketball fundraiser during March and April.

May Madness: Date for this fundraising event is May 18, 2013. Location is Elks Lodge, Goldsboro.

Cost is $10 per person; Lewis Herring volunteered to cook; Billy Goff will follow-up on obtaining the

Raffle Tickets, which will be mailed to members to sell.

Kay Bradley, Past President of Sugarfoot Shag Club, brought a guest to the Board Meeting, Mr. Al Thomp-

son, Director of the RSVP Program for WAGES. Mr. Thompson presented information on the Meals on

Wheels Program that uses volunteers to deliver food to homebound people in need. He asked the Board

of Directors to help this Program by getting the information to the membership and perhaps to help as a

Club project. Terry stated he would get input from the membership and let Kay know the response.

The Board thanked Kay and Mr. Thompson for presenting the information.

ACSC Meeting AT Spring SOS

Date: 4/20/13 Time: 10:00 am Location: OD Resort, North Myrtle Beach, SC

Jerry and Marcella Sandlin attended the Spring Meeting of the ACSC and SOS on Satur-

day, April 20, 2013. The following are noteworthy items from this meeting:

Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Harold ―Fat Harold‖ Bessent. He was

present to receive the award and said a big ‗Thank You‘ to everyone. It was a very

touching moment. Guinness Project provided $13,000 to the SOS Foundation; it was

very worthwhile.

Summer Workshop 2013 will be in Atlanta, GA in July. Club representatives should reg-

ister now and make hotel reservations. Hotel rooms are $89/night and include break-

fast for two. ACSC needs to know how many and who are attending the event. Friday

night attire is suggested to be club T-shirts. Theme for Saturday night is ‗Putting on the

Glitz‘ and tuxedo/cocktail dress attire is acceptable although not required.

There was a ‗heads-up‘ announcement to all member clubs concerning the proposed

amendment to the ACSC Membership Requirements. The amendment still needs to

have a vote; it states there are basically two requirements: 1) Pay membership dues on

time 2) attend Mid-Winter Workshop and Summer Workshop plus one other meeting

each calendar year: Mid-Winter Workshop (required), Spring SOS Meeting, Summer

Workshop (required), Fall SOS Meeting

Completed forms for new nominees for Shagging Icon Awards 2013 are due by No-

vember 1, 2013. The scan symbol on the SOS Card can be put on member‘s phone and

will link to Shagdance.com. Counterfeit SOS cards were discovered and the issue is

being investigated as a serious matter.
