Here’s a couple which will be in the next few weeks. There will be a Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the “M” Club (Old Central School) on Saturday, November 13. Dinner will be served at 5:00 p.m. Donnie Elrod and Beulahland will perform at 6:00 p.m. Please bring a dish and come and enjoy a wonderful time of fellowship. Donations will be accepted for the upkeep of the building. For more information, contact Opal Watson at 254-9295 or Aleta Bradford at 772-1234. Mt. Pleasant UMC will host a “Community Wide Tailgatin’ for Jesus Party” on Saturday, November 6 th . This event is open to anyone who would like to participate. You can set up to cook at anytime. The food should be ready by 4:00PM. Entertainment will be David Smith, The Singing Fireman and Shekinah. Go from tailgate to tailgate and sample the food. Lots of family fun. Great food, great fun and great fellowship, what more could you ask for. For more information you may contact Gerald Lewis at 254-8067, Sue Goodman at 254-9336 or myself at 772-1885. On Sunday, October 23, Sue Goodman, Joyce Goodman, Lillie Goodman and I visited with the residents at Crestview Nursing Home and distributed bananas. We especially enjoyed visiting with Emma Sue Watson, Elsie Lewis and Frances Elrod. Frances’ daughter Kay was also there visiting with her, Happy birthday wishes this week to Larry Hendrix, Lillie Goodman, Shelby Littlejohn, my Mother- in-law Martha Williams, Trevor Williams, Emma Sue Watson, Marie Dowdy, Randall Phillips and Jennifer Williams. Those to be lifted in prayer this week are Kathy Watson Doering, Barbara and Boyce Wilson, James Elrod, Jim and Jane Carvin, Shun Fuller, Carol Wilson, Mae Simpson, Leah Scallions, Prentice Elrod, Bobby Hayes, Barbara Milam, Peggy Lewis, Edna Austin, Enid Powell, Kate Jordan, Darlene Rossen, Fletcher Lewis, Dorothy Bruce, Earline Benard, Shirley Morgan, Kirk Boullion, Carol and Jordan Bruce, Frances Elrod, The Military, The Nation and the Community. Sympathy is extended to the families of Mr. Melvin Williamson, Mrs. Carrie Mayfield and Mrs. Elnora Williams in the loss of their loved ones. Isn’t it great to know that “we have a home with the Lord at anytime.” This is our Thought for the Week as published in the Upper Room Devotional by Fred Buehling of Oregon. Running away from our problems can appear to be the easy solution. A lot of children run away from the discipline and care at home for a newfound freedom but those who do return home find a warm house, love and hearty food. We can never outrun God. He has promised to never leave us or forsake us. Like the prodigal, when we come home we will always be welcome. Thanks be to God that we never have to face life alone. If you have news to share, please call me at 772-1885 after 5:00 p.m. Until next week God Bless. Zion Baptist Church enjoyed revival meetings through Wednesday evening. Guest Evangelist Frank Bowling delivered many inspirational messages as we enjoyed the fellowship and spiritual reviving individually each night. There were many visitors, but I was especially delighted to see a couple of teachers from East Side School where Tammy Oliphant and I work. Thanks to Nicole Johnson and Fred and Shalondria Hardin for worshiping with us. It was also exciting to see Pastor Carl White, Poplar Corner Baptist Church (Highway 412), Dr. Charles Pratt, HBA director and Pastor Phil Lovelace, Allen Baptist Church. Thirty youth enjoyed a bonfire Monday night at the lake following the service. Thanks to Rad Ellington for the fire and to Beth and Abbey Thomas for helping get everything together. We greatly appreciate Rachel Stewart and Stephen Powell for planning all of the youth events, including fellowship at the Stewart’s home after the Wednesday night service with approximately fifty folks attending. Zion has an excellent group of youth and they love to fellowship. Thanks to mama (Alice Elrod) for bringing chili over Monday night for dinner before Church. Thanks to Melanie Thomas and her helpers for preparing the delicious soup and cornbread as well as brownies for the Wednesday night meal. If you missed it, you missed a real treat because it was free! Scottie Morris reported fifteen men attended the prayer breakfast Thursday morning with Brother Mark Conway delivering the devotion. If you would like to join in I’m sure they would welcome you. Thanks guys for gathering each week to pray for various requests. I have been so busy I forgot that it takes gas for my truck to run. Friday afternoon my husband reminded me that when the light comes on, it means I need gas. He had to bring fuel to my job place before I could start my vehicle. Thanks to Nicole Johnson for running me to the court house to buy tags while I was waiting on him to get there. I am so blessed to have such amazing friends and an awesome husband. Happy belated birthday wishes to our grandson Luke Rainey (28th). He celebrated with a party at our home Friday night. Several family and friends were there to help him enjoy the evening with a hayride and bonfire. Saturday we headed to Whiteville to help Quin Brown celebrate his eighth birthday. Quin is the grandson of Tommy and Judy Elrod. Grandmother Alice Elrod as well as other family members was there, but they left to attend Zion’s Fall Festival. Since we had Lyla Grace with us she wanted to stay longer and visit with her Uncle Tommy! (Guess who the boss is when she’s around!) Thanks to Elizabeth Campbell for reporting a great time at the festival. She said they had many things going on, but she didn’t write it down for me and of course I forgot. I know Jennifer Wright did a great job planning the event, because everyone had a wonderful time. It was good to see Ray and Hilda Ellington back Sunday after a visit to the Smokey Mountains and Gatlinburg with other family members. They couldn’t get Jimmy Littlejohn to stay any longer, but they had a blast! Brother Mark Conway was back in Ephesians Sunday morning with an amazing message. The Lord’s Supper was observed Sunday night, but we had to take Lyla home in Franklin. The things you do for grandchildren! November is here, so mark your calendars for the 23rd when ZBC will host the annual community Thanksgiving service. This year, instead of a fellowship meal, each person is to bring a canned good that will be donated to the Mustard Seed. Pray for those who are sick, our military personnel and their families, the shut-ins, those who have lost loved ones, and the leaders of our country. Call me at 772-4257 if you have news. People want to know! What a wonderful time we had this past Sunday night at Mt. Olive church during our fifth Sunday night male chorus reunion. We were so happy to have so many of the pastor’s and other ministers present. Pastor Franklin Collins and Bluff Creek church worshiped Sunday afternoon in Clinton, Ky. Remember in prayer; Pearline “Teen” Jones, Stacy Greer, Eugene Snipes, Minister J.V. Carney, Minister J.H & Verma Fuller, Steve White, Mr. & Mrs. Jessie White, Emma Lue “Goldie” Graves, Ocie Bond, Cynthia Bullock Transor, Glenn White, and Fannie Anderson. Thought For The Week: “Who Will Go?” Three-year-old Joshua Childers wandered away from his two- parent mobile home wearing nothing but a t-shirt, tennis shoes and a diaper earlier this year. His father, Adam fell asleep tired from working the night shift while his mother was on the phone. Local officials, neighbors, friends and strangers mounted a massive search and rescue effort according to published accounts. Three days later the little toddler was found in the Mark Twain National Forest in his t-shirt, one tennis shoe, no diaper, but not worse for the wear. Probably in the back of the boy’s mind was a thought – this is not a trip to be taken again soon. Joshua is a blessed little boy. He has a two-parent family. He wandered away and people were concerned enough to look for him. People who meant him no harm found Joshua, and returned him to the lifestyle he was accustomed. According to the Justice Department, an average 2,185 children go missing every day. The Center for Missing and Exploited Children have assisted law enforcement agencies with 148,160 cases of missing children resulting in 132,000 children recovered. There are thousands of children who wander away, walk away or are taken away. For most of them, there are the appropriate authorities and people who care enough to go looking for them. However, some children are never found. The truth of the matter is many children go missing. You never see their stories splashed on TV; somehow they don’t fit the “America needs to care” profile. Sadly enough there are children, youth and adults who have no one who cares enough to go looking for them. I’m glad for a Savior who cares enough about the walkers, wanderers, and willful who go missing in action in our communities. There are those missing in our churches. Who goes looking for them? The question rings from heaven again today, as it did for Isaiah – who will go for us? And the response is what? Will it be here I am Lord, send me? Scripture Of The Day: “Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?” - Romans 15:1-2 (The Message) We welcome Mr. Willie Currie, Mr. Walter Duffey, and Mrs. Jean Laster to our facility and hope they will enjoy their stay with us. We had a Great Fall Festival on October 23. The weather was perfect! Many families came and enjoyed the day with their loved ones. Games were played such as Bean Bag Toss, Ring Toss, cake walks, sliders, pony rides, petting zoo, Face Painting, etc.; snacks included cotton candy and popcorn. Thank you to Brian Blatter, Southern Vending, for the delicious steak and chicken sandwiches he grilled for us. Also, thank you to Johnnie Bradford for 731-772-1172 42 South Washington PO Box 59 Brownsville, TN 38012 the variety of music he entertained us with. It was truly a grand day for all of us. Our sympathy goes to the family of Mr. Earl Dewayne Colburn. He will truly be missed. Volunteers, thank you for coming this week: Christ Temple ladies, First Assembly of God Church ladies, Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, Community Temple of the Living Church Members, Mary Barkens, and Bingo Ladies. We had such a fun time at our Halloween Party Thursday night. Several patients stuffed Halloween treat or trick bags Wednesday to give to each child at the party. Families and friends all came out and brought their children all dressed in their Halloween costumes. Many, many games were played by the children as our patients watched and laughed at them. Our winners for the best dressed costume were Rodrell Shaw and Tokarra Holloway (two different age groups). One was a skeleton, the other was a fairy. Their grandmother is Jacqueline Musgraves who works in our dietary department. Comgratulations Rodrell and Tokarra! Our patients birthday party for November will be Thursday November 4 at 2:00 PM. The following patients will be celebrating their birthday in November: Mrs. Wauline Nelson 11- 1, Mrs. Emma Watson 11- 5, Mrs. Mamie Dell Parks, Mrs. Ruth McGinnis,11-6. Barbara Bishop 11-15 , Mrs. Martha Hendrin 11 -15, Mr. Jerome Trigg 11- 16, and Mr. Richard Dodie Parks 11-27.
