In just a month or so I will be handing the SPE BOD President‛s gavel over to Dario Gonzalez. Dario works for Branson Ultrasonics and in working together with him on the board I‛ve gotten to know Dario as an honest, caring, hard working person; I have the utmost faith that he will carry on as your new President working hard to do his very best for SPE Rochester Section 20.

In reflecting on my serving three years as your President I found myself wondering aloud in the presence of (Director) Brett Blaisdell how the board could have accomplished more and Brett gave me some very good advice: he told me to think instead about what was (accomplished).

What this did was lead me to think about not only all the things that did get done, but more importantly, to realize who it was that really accomplished everything: the selfless and hard working volunteers that served as your Board of Directors over this three year period.

At the risk of forgetting someone I will do my best, by memory, to list them all here now, as well as our Program Chairs and our councilors during this same period in recognition publicly for their work for the section and to thank them for the opportunity to work together with them over these past three years:

• Vice President/President Elect: Dick Mastrodonato and Dario Gonzalez.• Secretary: Jeff Genovese.• Councilor: Sue Daly, Ralph Barnes.• Treasurer: Jim Wenskus.• 1st Past President: Frank Murphy • Director: Carl Letendre, Charlie Catchpole, Dave Porier, Don Jambro, Mike Hayes, John

Bernacki, Jay Westendorf, Fred Buja, Jerry Getgen, Joel Shenton, Bob Russell, Sharad Rajguru, Gary Gray, Brett Blaisdell, Gerard Reynolds, Bruce Buchman, Jim Kolb.

• Newsletter Chair: John Bernacki, Dario Gonzalez.• Education Chair: Fred Buja.• Public Interest Chair: Mike Hayes.• Membership Chair: Dick Mastrodonato, Sharad Rajguru, Gary Gray, Brett Blaisdell.• Awards/Nominations Chair: Fred Buja, Bob Russell, Bruce Buchman, Jim Kolb.• Programs Chair: Dick Mastrodonato, Jeff Genovese.• House and Sponsorships Chair: Ralph Barnes.• Golf Chair: Jay Westendorf.• RES Representative: Bob Slocomb.• Circulation: John Bernacki, Dario Gonzalez.• Photographer: Jerry Getgen, Mike Hayes, Dario Gonzalez.• Councilor; SPE RIT Student Chapter Advisor: Dr. Spencer Kim.

• Councilor; SPE RIT Student Chapter President: William Crosby, Ryan Conwell• Advisor; SPE International: Tricia McKnight.

I hope I have not forgotten anyone, or misspelled anyone‛s name; my apologies if I have. It was an honor to work together with each and every one of you; you are truly the unsung heroes. With my deepest respect for each and every one of you, on behalf of the membership of SPE Section 20, Thank You!

I would like to recognize Branson Ultrasonics for their very generous donation of one of their excellent Ultrasonic Welder‛s to RIT, via the RIT SPE Student Chapter, for use in a current student project and later for the new Plastics Technology Lab that is now being built. Through Dario Gonzalez‛s involvement with RIT Branson has long shown support for education. Very nice!

I would like to thank Husky for their March dinner meeting presentation on Thix0molding and Conair for their April dinner meeting presentation on “how to hire a robot”. Great job both! □

E-Cubed Fair4/26/07

The RES E cubed Fair was held during both the day and night of 4-26-07 in the Clark Gymnasium at RIT. This fair is an opportunity for area school age children as well as the general public to learn more about opportunities in various engineering fields. SPE attended on behalf of the local plastics industry with a table top plastics display and talks by Jim Wenskus and also live demos with our table top molding machine helping attendees make their own screw drivers or decorative stars.

I would like to recognize the following volunteers: Jim Wenskus, Jeff Genovese, Karl Keppler, Bob Murray, Brett Blaisdell,

Brad Smith, Scott Hall, Andrew Christie, Barb McDermott, Jim Kolb and his son Nick and also Ryan Conwell and Luke Brown of the RIT SPE student chapter who stopped by to pitch in.

Thanks much everyone... Mike McDermott □

Injection MoldingSolutions By HuskyKeeping Our Customers in the Lead

We founded Husky in 1953 with a passion to find innovative ways of keeping our customers in the lead. We started by building molds, and found they outmatched the machines of the day. So, we built our own. Soon, we added robots, began integrating complete molding cells and even designed total factories -- all to give our customers an edge. Then, in response to customer needs, we developed high speed thinwall systems and high volume PET preform systems and they began to sell around the world. We followed with a global service and support network to ensure our customers stayed out in front. More recently, we broadened our product line, launched a variety of value-added services, refined our manufacturing processes, and further strengthened our service and sales team. While much has changed over the years, one thing never has -- our commitment to keeping our customers in the lead.

The words may be new, but the mindset goes as far back as we do. Now, it is our promise. It is the filter through which our decisions are made, the spark that ignites our engineering teams, the yardstick for our service and sales team, the foundation upon which our manufacturing processes are built, and the roadmap that guides our future success -- together.

Looking for a position in the Rochester area

I obtained your contact information from the website of the Society of Plastic Engineer Rochester section. I am contacting you because I am currently in search for a job in a company that can use my skills as a Polymer Engineer. Like many other organizations my company, ExxonMobil Chemicals Films Business, has experienced reorganization and, as a result, my job was eliminated last February 14, 2006. I would like to find a research and development position with a stable company located in the Northeastern area (NY, NJ, PA, Philadelphia, CT, etc). Due to personal reason, I am restricted in term of location I can work. While I don’t expect that you will be able to provide me a job, I would appreciate hearing your suggestions, and any assistance you can provide.

Perhaps you may be aware of such an opportunity with a chemical company in Rochester or in the North East area. I am also trying to identify situations where mergers, acquisitions, and company expansion plans may create such an opportunity. If you can provide some assistance in that area, I will also appreciate it.

My qualifications include:

* A Ph. D. degree in Polymer engineering.

* A Master and a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering.

* 12 years of experience with a government research laboratory and 3 years of experience with the film business at ExxonMobil.

* Broad knowledge of polymer characterization, polymer blend and polymeric materials.

A copy of my resume can be provided upon request. You can reach me at (585) 727- 4626 or by e-mail. Thank you for your time and your help.

Sincerely,

Geralda Severe
