PRAY FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS ADMINISTRATION

President Barack Obama says he favors choosing a business leader for his economic team for his second term but

talented executives find the Senate confirmation hearings too long and disheartening.

A majority of Puerto Ricans backed statehood in the November election, but Press Secretary Jay Carney says the

White House hasnt determined whether to help advance their cause.

Pray for President Obama and his advisers as they work on selecting new Cabinet members for his next term.

    PRAY FOR OUR CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS

For the balance of the year lawmakers can look forward to hearing from physicians, hospital administrators, nurses,

family practitioners and other health care workers seeking to protect their portions of Medicare from budget cuts.

Representative Diana DeGette (Colorado) slammed Congress for doing nothing to protect our families and our

society from gun violence, and she urged the nation to come together and join in this conversation on gun control.

Pray that our leaders in Congress will come to right decisions regarding the nations financial fiscal cliff.

    PRAY FOR OUR JUDICIARY

The Oklahoma Supreme Court in two cases ruled that laws requiring women seeking abortions to have ultrasound

images produced in front of them and banning certain abortion-inducing drugs are both unconstitutional.

The U.S. Supreme Court for the moment is taking no action on the issue of same-sex marriages and the Defense of

Marriage Act, although indications are that the justices may hear oral arguments in the spring, deciding by June.

Pray for the courts across the land as they consider issues that directly involve Biblical values and Gods laws.

PRAY FOR THESE NATIONAL LEADERS IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK:

John S. Pistole, Administrator, Transportation Security Administration.

Jeff Sessions, United States Senator from Alabama.

Judge David L. Christensen, United States District Court for the District of Montana.

George E. Little, Pentagon Press Secretary.

    OTHER PRAYER CONCERNS:

    WARS AND TERRORISM

Afghan and coalition forces detained 10 insurgents, located one weapons cache, and cleared two improvised explosive

devices during one 24-hour period in eastern Afghanistan, with similar results in other provinces and districts.

The Obama Administration has launched a post-election push to restart moribund peace talks with the Taliban,

despite resistance from the U.S. military, mixed signals from the Pentagon and outright refusal by the militants.

Pray that a true peace will take hold and remain when the U.S. and NATO forces leave Afghanistan.

    FOREIGN INTERESTS AND CONFLICTS

The director of the Nadeem Center for Human Rights reports Egypts Muslim Brotherhood is paying gangs of thugs torape women and beat men who gather in Tahrir Square protesting the power grab of President Mohammed Morsi.

The U.S. and NATO are sending Patriot missiles to Turkey to beef up their air defenses and calm Turkish fears that it

could come under weapons attacks, including chemical weapons, from Syria.

    THE ECONOMY

Companies in the U.S. added 118,000 new workers in November, fewer than forecast and less than a month earlier.

Some have blamed the lingering impact of Hurricane Sandy for shuttered businesses that would otherwise be hiring.

Unions in Michigan are trying to fend off a push by some lawmakers to pass right-to-work legislation that would banthe requirement of employees having to pay union dues in order to work in certain businesses.

Pray about employment issues across the nation, and for the millions who remain unemployed and their families.

    ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST

The recent battle between Israel and Islamist forces in the Gaza revealed the potentially greater military capabilities ofHezbollah, the Shiite militant group in Lebanon sponsored by Syria and Irans Revolutionary Guard.

The White House wont seek to punish the Palestinian Authority for the UN statehood vote, but did not vow to veto

pending legislative proposals to cut off U.S. aid to the PA in retaliation.

Pray about the way U.S. aid money is spent by both Israel and the Palestinians, Egypt and others in the region.

    HEALTH CARE

Breast cancer patients who take the drug tamoxifen for 10 years instead of just the recommended five can further

reduce the chances of the disease coming back or killing them, researchers reported this week.

Flu season in the U.S. is off to its earliest start in nearly a decadeand the new strain may make people sicker thanother types, particularly seniors and infants. The current vaccine is proving effective, said the CDC.

Pray for the drug companies, their chemists, researchers and trial groups as they explore better health results.

The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground,

    purified seven times.
