MEET OUR JUDGESBARBARA ARNDT

In 1972 I purchased my first Afghan Hound and have not been without an Afghan Hound in my life and on my couch since that day. As a breeder, owner and handler I have had the privilege of producing and finishing many Canadian and American Champions. Dogs of my breeding have many specialty and group wins in both Canada and the United States and have proven to be multi-talented in lure coursing, obedience and agility. I have also owned and shown Salukis and a Standard Long Haired Dachshund.

I am licensed to judge all of the breeds in the Hound Group, the Sporting Group, Terrier Group, and the Herding Group and on permit for the Working Group. I have judged Hound Group Specialties, Sighthound Group Specialties as well as specialties for Afghan Hounds, Basenjis, Borzoi, Deerhounds, Greyhounds, Ibizan Hounds, Pharaoh Hounds and Whippets. I have judged in Canada, the United States, Australia, Denmark, Italy, Slovakia, South Africa, Mexico and Sweden.

My club involvement includes being a long time member of the Canadian Kennel Club, the Afghan Hound Club of Canada, and being active in 2 all-breed Kennel Clubs. I am the Past President of the Afghan Hound Club of Canada and have held Executive positions with this club for many years as well as being Show Chairman for 2 National Specialty Shows.

FRED DEWSBURY

I am a retired school teacher who has been involved with purebred dogs almost my entire life. A close family member was a long-time breeder of Bulldogs and Borzoi. I loved the borzoi, and in 1972 my wife and I started our own kennel. Over a span of more than 20 years, we were fortunate enough to have bred many champions, group winners, specialty winners and best in show dogs. I have also owned and shown Italian Greyhounds, and have professionally handled breeds from all seven of the groups recognized by the Canadian Kennel Club.

I received my first permit to judge in 1987, and since then have worked my way to all-breed status. I have judged all across Canada, in the USA, Ireland, Finland, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Venezuela, Colombia, China, Thailand, Indonesia and Korea.

Over the years I have served on the executive of several Canadian dog clubs. I am a Life Member of the CKC, and did a term on its Dog Show Council.

DOUG & AVERY GAUDIN

We have been involved with Afghan hounds for over 45 years now, acquiring our first dog in 1972 while attending the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto; at that time we were showing horses but always wanted an Afghan. Our 1st litter was in 1974 and we became a registered kennel, “OBIWAN “in 1978 when we became more interested in showing the dogs. Since then we have bred over 60 Canadian and 18 American Champions from our small breeding program, mostly breeder-owner-handled. In that group there have been 7 All Breed Best in Show winners and several Specialty winners including BIS at the Canadian National Specialty. We have had several dogs in the Top Afghans and Top hounds in Canada. In 1992 we added Chinese Cresteds to our home. We have had a couple of litters, finished a few champions, and had a couple of group winners in this wonderful little breed. We also owned and showed a Ch English Cocker.

We have been active members of the Afghan hound club of Canada, holding many executive positions over the years. We are also life members of the Canadian Kennel Club and members of the Canadian Dog Judges Association and are the founding members of the Wildwood Kennel Club. We are current members of the New Brunswick Kennel Club.

Doug started judging in 1993 and is currently an All Breed judge in Canada, Avery started judging in 1995 and is also an All Breed judge in Canada. We have enjoyed judging numerous Afghan specialties in the U.S. and have judged at All Breed shows in every province in Canada including the Yukon, in Mexico, Venezuela, Ireland, Japan, Peru, Argentina, Columbia, New Zealand, Bermuda and all over the United States including Hawaii. We look forward to seeing some beautiful dogs at your show.

JUDI ELFORD

Judi has been captivated by all things canine since she can remember. Growing up as a child in Newfoundland, Canada, she would regularly be found bringing home every stray dog she could find, and leaving out food for any wayward animal that might be passing by. Eventually her parents were to permit her to own her own dog, and it was the Samoyed that she selected. That first Sam went on to be a group winning Champion and CDX obedience title holder. It was a natural progression then that as the years passed she should go on to become an avid fancier, breeder and ultimately judge under the Canadian Kennel Club system. Together with her husband Blair Elford, she has bred and/or finished over 350 Samoyed Champions world wide, including multiple Best in Show, National Specialty, World Winners and #1 Samoyeds in Canada. Throughout the years the “Vanderbilt” Samoyeds have competed successfully in all corners of the globe, and indeed breeding for “global breed type” has been one of the primary mandates of the kennel.

As a judge, Judi is CKC licensed for all breeds. She has judged in Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK as well as the USA and of course Canada.

Professionally Judi is a retired labour and delivery registered nurse – a field she had practiced in since 1981. Now she is “gone to the dogs” full time, and is loving it! Together with her husband Blair she still actively breeds and exhibits Samoyeds under the Vanderbilt prefix. The year 2019 saw her pilot her Samoyed “Striker” to #2 all breed status in Canada with 58 BIS to become the top BIS Samoyed in breed history.

(MRS.) GERALDINE R. TAYLOR

My family owned smooth Fox Terriers, and a Standard Smooth Dachshund, so my interest in dogs began at an early age. I began exhibiting and breeding Labrador Retrievers in the early 1960’s, and my family owned the top winning Labrador in Canada of 1963. In 1969 I obtained my first Maltese, and began showing and breeding these lovely toy dogs then. My Maltese was #3 Maltese and #6 Toy in Canada (1979) and in 1981 #3 Maltese again. In the intervening years I joined my husband, George, in breeding Welsh Terriers. In 1997 one of our Welsh Terriers was #2 Welsh Terrier in Canada.

I began judging in 1979, and received approval to judge All Breeds in 1990. I have judged extensively in Canada and the United States; and also Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Uruguay, Ecuador, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Cuba, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, China, Indonesia, Norway & Sweden.

In 1999, I was elected to the Board of the Canadian Kennel Club, in the capacity of Director, for the Province of Manitoba. I held this position for 3 consecutive (3 year) terms I was selected to be the Honourary Chair of the Canadian Kennel Club for the 2016-2017 term. Also, I was the Maltese “BREEDLINES” columnist for Dogs In Canada (the C.K.C. official publication) for 12 years By profession, I am a Retired Music Teacher (A.L.C.M.)
