A Voyage in Faith and Learning Dear St. Paul Families, Thank you to everyone that participated in parent-‐teacher conferences. It is a research-‐based fact that when home and school work together, everyone benefits: students tend to earn higher grades, perform better on tests, attend school more regularly, have better behavior, and show more positive attitudes toward themselves and school. We are blessed to be part of a community in which the partnership between home and school shares the goals of helping children learn and feel successful. Next Tuesday, our gym will once again be filled with the wonderful aroma of Christmas – the wreaths and greenery will be here. This fundraiser has been a tradition at St. Paul for over 25 years. Many former St. Paul families and friends still support the sale by purchasing their wreaths and greenery through our school. We appreciate their continued support, and thank you to everyone for purchasing and selling wreaths. Orders will be available for pick-‐up on Tuesday beginning at noon. Students in 7th grade left school this morning to participate in an overnight retreat at Grove Christian Camp. The focus of the retreat will be based on our catechetical theme for the year utilizing John 15:5, “I am the true vine, and you are the branches” and

the Fruit of the Spirit. I’m thankful that they have the opportunity to retreat from the busyness of their days and spend time focused in their faith and building community with one another. Please keep them in your prayers for spiritual growth and enjoyable time as classmates. Illness continues to be impacting a large number of students. There seems to be a variety of sickness including sore throats, ear infections, and high fevers. We also have seen a few cases of the hand, foot, and mouth virus in our preschool and pre-‐kindergarten classrooms. I’ve included some more details about this illness in the Voyager. Additionally, we recently purchased and will begin using the Clorox® 360 Machine. This machine is a surface treatment system that combines proven electrostatic technology with Clorox® products to quickly and easily provide sanitizing coverage in hard to reach places. I ask that you continue to help prevent the spread of illness at our school by keeping your children home when they are ill. Please follow the health guidelines that are also included in this edition of the Voyager. Thank you! On Wednesday of next week, our 4th & 8th grade students will be hosting Thanksgiving Mass at 9:00. Please join us as we give thanks to God for the many blessings that He gives each of us. May all of you be blessed with a Thanksgiving holiday filled with joy, relaxation, and family and friends. In Christ’s Peace, Kelli Braud

Health Reminder Please be reminded that during the winter months we see an increase in sore throats, Strep, nausea, fevers and flu-‐like symptoms among the students in classrooms. If your child has a fever or has vomited, please keep him or her home until the symptoms have been absent for 24 hours without the aid of medication. And remember also that all medications, including cough drops, MUST have an accompanying medical release and be kept in the office for distribution by trained school staff. Thank you. Hand, Foot, and Mouth Virus a viral illness that is very contagious. It seems to appear about every two to three years. Below is some specific information regarding hand, foot and mouth virus.
• Symptoms include fever, sore throat, rash and spots, oral ulcers and painful blisters on hand and feet
• Usually fully resolves in 7 – 10 days with supportive treatment
• Contagious the first few days and while fever and active rash continue
• Student may return to school if no fever for 24 hours AND no new blister for 48 hours
• Current cases appear to be a part of a cyclical outbreak that happens every 2-‐3 years in the U.S. It is not clear what prompts these flare-‐ups.
Inclement Weather Parents can generally depend on St. Paul following the Eugene 4J school district directives regarding closure or delayed start times when weather prohibits safe driving. Occasionally, we may need to make independent decisions regarding closures or late starts, you will receive a phone call from Kelli Braud via our phone message system by 6:30am, or as soon as the determination is made. CCS Coat Drive We will be continuing to collect warm clothing items for the Catholic Community Services Warm Clothing Drive until Wednesday, December 18th. We will have a collection box near our front door. The following donations of gently-‐used items are appreciated
• Coats • Rainwear and ponchos • Sweaters • Gloves and scarves • Socks (new only, please) • Blankets
Prayer Request
Some of you may remember one of our amazing custodians, Mr. Joe Kiley. He worked at St. Paul for over 15 years and retired in May of 2013. I recently received word that Mr. Kiley is under Hospice care from complications of COPD. Joe will soon be called home by our loving Father. I ask that you keep him in prayer as he makes the transition from his earthly home to his heavenly home in the Kingdom of God. We were very blessed to have Joe at St. Paul.
"Tech Talk" by Kim Good Happy Thursday...the countdown to Thanksgiving is here! With less daylight and fewer school days it's easy to lean on technology to keep your kids entertained. Some kids can spend hours watching their favorite YouTube channel or playing their favorite game online. But how much is too much? Yes, there are zero-‐tech schools but the truth is, you've got to keep up with technology or you'll fall behind. This article from Common Sense is about finding balance while staying connected. If you're looking for academic online activities on non-‐school days, remember your child can access Typing Club, Code.Org and Keyboarding without Tears from home! As always, please reach out to me with any questions: kgood@saintpaul-‐school.org. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/learning-‐with-‐technology/will-‐my-‐child-‐be-‐left-‐behind-‐if-‐he-‐doesnt-‐use-‐technology -‐-‐ Kim Good/Technology Teacher Canned Food Drive for Christmas Spirit Wear Fridays! Starting on December 6, and each Friday until Christmas Break, we will be having a canned food drive. Students may wear one Christmas top, sweater, or hat for each can of food that they bring in. Let’s see those “Ugly Christmas Sweaters” and Santa hats! 2020-‐2021 Tuition Assistance Are you wanting to apply for tuition assistance consideration for the 2020-‐2021 school year?
