CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre

(CII-Godrej GBC) was established in the

year 2004, as CII's Developmental Institute

on Green Practices & Businesses, aimed at

offering world class advisory services on

conservation of natural resources.

The Green Business Centre in Hyderabad is

housed in one of the greenest buildings in

the world. The Green Business Centre was

inaugurated by His Excellency Dr. A. P. J.

Abdul Kalam, the then President of India on

14 July 2004.

The Services of Green Business Centre

include - Energy Management, Green

Buildings, Green Companies, Renewable

Energy, GHG Inventorization, Green

Product Certification, Waste Management

and Cleaner Production Process.

CII-Godrej GBC works closely with the

stakeholders in facilitating India emerge as

CII always endeavors to offer the best to Indian

industry which in turn would facilitate them

become globally competitive and also equip

them to meet the growing global challenges.

A step towards this direction was the launch of

9 Centre's of Excellence focusing on a particular

specialized service.

CII Godrej GBC was conceived & designed to

offer one-stop solution on various aspects of

environmental management to Indian industry

and in the process facilitate India emerge as

one of the global leaders in green business . CII,

under the thought leadership of Mr Jamshyd

Godrej embarked on this Mission.

As part of the Mission, it was decided to

construct CII Godrej GBC as a demonstration

green building.

As a result of concerted efforts, in the year

2004, CII Godrej GBC building earned the

unique distinction of becoming India's first

platinum rated green building, which in turned

triggered the modern National green building

movement.

Today, CII is India's premier green building

certifying body and over 90 % of green building

projects in the country are going the CII way.

Over the years, CII Godrej GBC has been

offering gamut of advisory services on

environmental management to Indian industry

and facilitating new growth & networking

opportunities.

CII-Godrej GBC is represented at various

National and international forums and its rich &

varied perspective is sought by key Policy

makers and other stakeholders in shaping new

sustainable & vibrant growth trajectories for

Indian industry.

It's over a decade since CII-Godrej GBC was established.

When we look back, all through, the journey was eventful

and fulfilling.

Each day was a learning to all of us and it has unbundled

new growth horizons to us. This in turn provided us new

opportunities to go that extra mile and offer the best to

Indian industry.

A decade ago, people did not know much about 'green

buildings'! Today, green buildings have become a way of

life and India stands number two in the world in

terms of registered green building footprint. I thank

Mr ParasuRaman and Dr Jain and all the partners of Indian

Green Building Council (IGBC) for re-defining the way

buildings are constructed.

CII-Godrej GBC, under the thought leadership of

Mr Pradeep Bhargava extended the concept of Green to

companies, by launching GreenCo Rating System, the

first -of –its- kind –in- the world. This initiative is indeed

evoking excellent response.

Today, organisations by going the GreenCo way are

driving excellence in resource conservation and bottom-

line improvement. GreenCo is also providing strategies

for long-term competitiveness and enabling

organisations achieve world class status in Green.

Launching GreenPro certification was indeed a major

milestone to all of us. The long felt need of certified

Green Products will be fully catered through GreenPro.

We are sure, the day is not far when India will offer only

certified Green Products. I thank Mr ParasuRaman for

steering this initiative.

Green Schools initiative aiming to promote green

practices in young minds and also design green schools

is evoking excellent response. CII-Godrej GBC is

partnering with both Government and Private schools to

take this Mission across the country.

CII Godrej GBC, under the guidance of Dr Forbes is

continuing to offer the latest Energy Management

services to Indian industry. World Class Energy Efficiency

initiative and India GHG Program is adding significant

value to all stakeholders.

Smart Power for Rural Development' (SPRD) and Green

Power Market Development Group - India (GPMDG)

initiative which is being led by Ramesh Kymal is on the

right track and evoking excellent response from the

stakeholders. In days to come, we will significantly scale

it up across the country.

I take this opportunity to thank Mr S Padmanabhan;

All IGBC Rating System have been developed based on the holistic approach of Panchabhutas (five elements of nature) and are a perfect blend of ancient architectural practices and modern technological innovations.

Launch of Indian Heat to Power Alliance

On 17 October, GBC in partnership with USAID-India has launched 'Indian Heat to Power Alliance', aiming to improve the operating efficiency of Indian Thermal Power Plants.

World Class Energy Efficiency initiatives

GBC is working closely with the stakeholders in promoting world class energy efficiency initiative in the cement, pulp and paper, power and sugar sectors. GBC in partnership with WRI, TERI has launched the India GHG program.

India GHG Program aims to build comprehensive measurement & management strategies that will reduce emissions and drive more profitable, competitive and sustainable business models in the country.

State Carbon Foot print Study for Meghalaya

GBC will carry out a study to develop Carbon Footprint and identify broad emission reduction opportunities in the State.

Earlier, GBC developed the Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Low Carbon strategies for 3 Indian States- Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu.

CII National energy award follows a comprehensive methodology for evaluating the energy performance of the companies. Participating organisations submit their energy consumption (all energy forms), energy management systems, GHG emission reduction, employee engagement, capacity building and management data in the form of a detailed questionnaire. Based on the sustained energy efficiency performance over last 3 years, organisations are evaluated and recognised at the awards ceremony.

GreenPro' adopts a holistic cradle to cradle approach in assessing products that include- design, raw materials, manufacturing process, performance during use, recycle & reuse at the end of the product life.

On 8 June 2015, CII has launched 'GreenPro' Green Product Certification for India. As part of this initiative, CII has inked an MoU with UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global independent safety science company, dedicated to promoting safe living and working environments. UL will be the Knowledge Partner with CII for offering GreenPro Services in the Country.

Green Power Market Development Group' (GPMDG)

CII in partnership with World Resources Institute (WRI) and supported by Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF) is working on large scale renewable energy market creation through an initiative titled- 'Green Power Market Development Group' (GPMDG) with the target to facilitate 1,000 MW of Green Power Procurement by the year 2020.

The objective is to transform energy markets by enabling corporate buyers to access reliable and clean energy from Green IPPs. As on July 2015, GPMDG initiative has successfully facilitated over 110 MW of green power procurement.

Renewable Energy

Smart Power for Rural Development (SPRD)

CII Godrej GBC with support from Rockefeller Foundation, USA and in partnership with other organisations is implementing a Rural Energy Access programme titled - Smart Power for Rural Development (SPRD).

This project aims to provide clean fuels and green energy to rural areas using cell phone towers as anchor loads. Over 12 pilot projects are up and running and about 20 projects are in pipeline in Bihar and UP.

PFAN - Asia Program

GBC in partnership with the USAID supported PFAN-Asia Program, the regional operator for CTI Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN) organised series of Clean Energy Financing Events.

The networking events were aimed at sharing information on clean energy topics, engaging with prospective clean energy projects and companies in India that could be supported by PFAN in terms of equity/ debt / mezzanine financing to achieve financial closure of their projects.
