HEARD… he has turned out to be abig joke, amongst the local communi-ty, in his part of the world.He gives the impression of being a

‘jack of all trades’ but, in reality, he isa master of none.Some say you have to pay him to be

recognized!His events have been disasters but

he still keeps hoodwinking thegullible!

There are quite a few Sri Lankan bands(some with a couple of foreigners asmembers), operating in Melbourne. And

they are all doing pretty well, in the scene overthere.

However, there is one particular outfit thatis awesome, at the moment – Rap-So-D – andchecking out their work schedule, I would saythey are certainly top of the pops!

They have been classified as Melbourne’spremier cover band and that is precisely whythey are in great demand.

Most of the big, prestigious dances, inMelbourne, feature Rap-So-D.

They did a non stop dance party, in May. Inthe same month they provided the music for“Starry, Starry Night,” organized by MusaeusCollege Past Pupils’ Association of Victoris.And the dance was ‘sold out’ long before thescheduled date.

Two other ‘sold out’dances, featuring Rap-So-D were theFundraiserCharity Night,held on August15th, and theJolly J’s25th

International Silver JubileeDinner Dance, which tookplace on August 22nd.

They were also seenin action at theColombo UniversityAlumni Association ofVictoria AnnualDinner Dance, held onAugust 1st.

What makes Rap-So-D a major attraction istheir playlist which includes top hits from the‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, and some of the current chartfavourites, as well.

They do a bit of Country, and lots ofReggae, Classical Jazz, RnB, Pop Rock, Rap andBaila.

“Blending all these musical flavours, we giveyou, what we believe, is the best mix of musicplayed today by a dance band,” says Ash(Ashok) Jayasinha, who handles vocals, alongwith his wife, Allison. He also stated that theentertainment aspect is very high in their pri-orities.

The rest of the members of Rap-So-D are -Carl Jayasinghe (bass guitar), MalcolmMcCormick (keyboards), Chathura Peiris (leadguitar) and Francis Almeida (drums).

“Disco Lady” hitmaker,Alston Koch, is gain-ing recognition in the

States, as well.The singer, who is now based

in LA, finds himself playing anactive role in The Family FilmAwards – which is all about thefamily.

“I want to put more love inAmerica,” said Antonio Gellini,founder of the Family FilmAwards.

The Family FilmAwards was estab-lished in 1995 asGellini wantedthere to be morefilms about fami-lies.

Gellini createdthis competition sofilmmakers wouldup the ante on fami-ly-related projects.

The first FamilyFilm Awards aired onAugust 22nd, 1996.

Alston, took a veryactive role, in thisyear’s event, and hasnow been invited tohost the event, whichtakes place onThursday, August 27th(2015).

One Direction, PharrellWilliams, Florence + TheMachine and Disclosure

have been confirmed to perform atthe 2015 Apple Music Festival.

The event - previously known asthe iTunes Festival – will run atLondon’s Roundhouse, fromSeptember 19 to September 28.

“It’ll be great to be back inLondon,” One Direction’s Niallsays, “We can’t wait to perform forour fans in the Roundhouse, andaround the world, on Apple Music!See you there!”

Pharrell adds: “Wow, I’m sograteful to be performing at theApple Music Festival. TheRoundhouse is such a historicvenue ... there’s always a specialenergy in the crowd. Thank you forhaving me!”

UK residents can apply to wintickets on Apple Music, andthrough media partners, and fans

around the world will be able toview the shows on-demand, viaApple Music, with coverage onBeats 1, as well as backstage newsand footage from artistes on AppleMusic Connect.

“We wanted to do somethingreally special for music fans thisyear,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s sen-ior vice-president of InternetSoftware and Services.

“The Apple Music Festival is agreatest hits set of 10 unbelievablenights, featuring some of the bestperformers, on the planet, appear-ing live and interacting directlywith their fans on Connect andBeats 1.”

The confirmed Apple MusicFestival dates, so far, are:

September 22 - One Direction, 25– Disclosure, 26 - PharrellWilliams, 28 - Florence + theMachine.
