There is a difference between the twelve tribes of Israel and the

twelve sons of Israel.

Page 2: 12 tribes of rev

“Israel” is the name that God gave Jacob (Genesis 32:28).

His twelve sons are: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan,

Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulon,

Joseph, and Benjamin (Genesis

35:23-26;Exodus 1:1-4;1 Chronicles 2:1-2).

When the tribes inherited the Promised Land, Levi's descendants did not receive a territory for themselves.

Joseph did not receive a tribe, either—Jacob had adopted Joseph’s two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, essentially giving Joseph a double portion for his faithfulness in saving the family from famine (Genesis 47:11-12).

Hosea 5:14

him.

Hosea 13:1

Deuteronomy 29:18-2118 Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family,

or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

19 And it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart, to add drunkenness to thirst:

20 The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.

21 And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law:

And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.

2 And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's stead, who hath withheld from thee the fruit of the womb?

3 And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.

4 And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.

5 And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.6 And Rachel said, God hath judged me, and hath also heard my

voice, and hath given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.

Interesting story from Dan

Leviticus 24:10-1110 And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose

father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp;

11 And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses: (and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:)

1 Kings 16:29-3129 And in the thirty and eighth year of Asa king of

Judah began Ahab the son of Omri to reign over Israel…

30 And Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him.

31 And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him.

• Ahab: Brother of the father32 And he reared up an altar for Baal in the

house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.33 And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more

to provoke the LORD God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.

Page 21: 12 tribes of rev

• Judg. 2:13 And they forsook the LORD, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.

• Ashtaroth is the female goddess of fertility, love, and war

• Her husband Baal was both the sun-god and storm-god. He was worshiped as sun-god when the people wished to express thanks and gratitude for light and warmth and fertility
