Wait til you see Mrs. Claus and her three elves. Mrs. Claus even had a real baby on her lap. Wonder if Santa knows about that! We had lots of good help getting this calendar made, but our photographer was the hardest worker of all. Well – almost the hardest worker those elves getting into those tights and the lady getting into the leopard leotards wasn’t exactly child’s play. You’ll have to wait to see who that was, but the hard working photographer was Brooke Evans. She was a real trooper trying to take pictures of folks on bulls before they could fall off, keeping up with elves who wouldn’t quit playing with the toys, trying to slow down two of our residents who were joy-riding through town in Tommy Hooper’s convertible. It was no easy job trying to get that bear to lay still so one of our ladies could lay on him either. Do you see why this is called the “Happening Place?” You just never know what these residents are thinking of getting into next! We are so glad to have Marie Aulridge back from rehab. It has been almost two months, but she is really looking good and every one is glad to see her. Martha Jane Williams, Lyde Hamilton, Frances Jones, Jessie Howell and I all took our lunches to “Lunch and Learn” at the library this week. The program was Tom Lea doing his usual magic with twigs, sticks, straw, dried berries, leaves, a few flowers and a little oasis. He beats all I ever saw. When he was through, he had three of the prettiest Fall arrangements I’ve ever seen. Thanks, Tom, for always being so helpful and sharing with the community and especially Sugar Creek. Jottye Newman had a special visitor this week when her great-grandson, Christian Leath, came to see her. Christian is 11 years old, goes to Alamo City School and is in 6 th grade. I got to visit with him a little while and he was really sharp. He introduced me to his grandmother, Peggy Guinn and let me know she is his grandmother on his mother’s side. Hope he comes back again soon. I enjoyed visiting with him. We’re still missing Billie Fletcher here at Sugar Creek as she is still in rehab in Humboldt. Call me if you need her address. We’ll be glad when she gets back home. We’re also glad Katherine Hooper is back here. She is taking treatments every day for 15 days for her legs so keep praying for her, but at least she’s home. Tonight is our “Trick or Treat” evening, but that’s another whole column. We’ve got three witches running around here trying to put spells on all our residents – although two of them swear they’re good witches. Come to think of it – one of them IS a RESIDENT. How’d she get in here looking like that? “Regaining Our First Love” was the subject of the message Sunday. Have you lost your first love for Christ? The first king of Israel, Saul, thought he could live for God sometimes, but found out that would not work. The church at Ephesus had some good qualities. Their fellowship was attractive, but somewhere along the way, they had lost their first love. They were warned to return and love Christ as they once did, to remember from the height they had fallen, to repent and return and repeat those things they had once done because of their love for the Lord. The sin of neglect for the child of God can be very destructive, praying less, reading the Bible less, attending church less and witnessing less. The world can crowd out our love and service for the Lord. Happy birthday to Julie Jones Hopkins, Ryan Sidhom, Jensen Bolinger, Brent Byrd, Amanda Tindle, Rita Mann Dryman, Brandon Moses, Rebecca Lewis, and Lisa Paris. Robert and Betty Barden and Bobby and Sherree Barden enjoyed a trip to Branson, MO recently where they enjoyed several shows and had a wonderful relaxing time. The “Trunk and Treat” Fall Festival held at Holly Grove’s family life center last Sunday evening was well attended, bringing in approximately 200 persons. We want to thank all the business for the wonderful prizes that they contributed for the event, and thanks to Betty Doyle for contacting them, thanks also to Brother Ralph Brown and all those helping him. The east parking lot of the church and the family life center were full with all ages from toddlers to older adults. The sick are counting on you and me to remember them in prayer. Those on the list are Liz Kemper, Mae Simpson, Glenn White, Betty Barden, Perry Watridge, Elsie Lewis, Neil Herbert, Ted Mann, and Jessie White. Melvin Holcomb is improving, but let’s continue to remember him in our prayers. Others to include are Jean Mann, Carolyn Covington, Fletcher Lewis, Elvin Wells, Janie Hight, and Belinda Long. Lorie Jones attended the Frincher Family concert at Calvary Baptist Church in Brownsville Sunday afternoon. Following the concert, a meal was served in the dining area. We have been experiencing some beautiful fall days. I took down the hummingbird feeders, cleaned them and put them away to make room for the feeders for the birds during the winter. The Field of Flags around the Brownsville Courthouse are beautiful We had several trick or treaters for Halloween last Saturday. Richard and Mary Beth Scott brought their children by and Wade and Brittany Howard’s children came by. Dede Kendrick brought Will and Carol and Chasity Scott brought little Karleigh for a visit. Thank goodness I was well prepared. The Scott family and the Howard family later rode through on a hayride. Lucille Matlock and daughter, Diann Williams, enjoyed a delicious meal at Cuz’s last Friday night. Fried fish with all the trimmings were enjoyed. We have some new neighbors in our community. Robert and Brenda Maddox moved into our community. Juvenile hunting season was last weekend and from what I hear, we have some young hunters in this sport. Andrew Scott shot a doe and Kiersten Howard shot a buck. Also Leanne King, daughter of Bob and Sharon King and granddaughter of Farris and Patsy Climer, killed a 7-point buck. Congratulations, kids!! Mary Alice Scott Scallions suffered a stroke last Sunday morning and is in Jackson General Hospital. Carol Wilson was taken to Memphis last Saturday. Mary and Carol need our prayers. Life can change in a blink of an eye. Fifth Sunday was observed last Sunday with some members of Bethel Community Church gathering at the Olypmic in Bells for lunch. Those present were Bill and Jane Kendrick, Kenneth and Bettye Sargent, and Bro. Paul Phillips. Thought for the week: “Turn the other cheek”,” pray for your enemies”, “return good for evil”. These are so difficult to live by. Help us all to live by these teachings. David Stewart’s Sunday School Class gathered Friday evening at the Hatchie River camp house of Betty and Robert Barden. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal and great fellowship. Saturday evening, we attended the Fall Festival at First United Methodist Church with Andrew, Alicia, Emily and Claire Russell. Our little Claire was the cutest little cowgirl I’ve ever seen. She sported her pink cowboy outfit with pink cowboy boots and wore her hair in French braids. Emily was dressed as Alex from the Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place. The Waiting provided wonderful musical entertainment. Great family fun was abundant for the large number of children and adults present. My grandson Julian killed his first deer Saturday! He was hunting in the juvenile hunt in Humphreys County. Congratulations Julian! Happy Birthday to Rachel Hatcher, Tina Edwards, Billy Morris, Shirley Kendrick and Brent Byrd. Happy Anniversary to Carolyn and Cleve Hicks. Please pray for Martha Crutcher, a devoted church member, who is very ill. Have lots of young children,” middle- aged children” (ha), teens, babies, and some on the way! Latest announced are Larry and Angelina Sutherland and Jon and Susan Overturf, all will be adoring parent. Never forget that each and every member whatever the age, are appreciated and needed without which, there possibly would be no body of the Lord’s church in existence known as it is. Elders are Jack Fox and Pat Glidewell and preacher Bro. Larry Sweeney. Deacons are: Jerry Myers, Billy Connally, Andy Austin, Albert Jackson, Allan Glidewell, and Craig Robinson. Let me extend an invitation here, come and see us, be very happy to have you! Thursday the Joyful Pilgrims, (this month should be special for our group, “pilgrims”, Thanksgiving!!) Just a thought. Bro. Josh Barnett and members began this gathering when he was here and that’s the name we came up with! We must remember indeed to be ....joyful! Always. Per the Bible. To finish a sentence, we met Thursday October 28, at Veranda Restaurant and had exactly one dozen in attendance: Pat and Ruth Glidewell, Dianne Lee and her daughter, Kristina Woods, Jane Powell (left Lola at home), Jack and Dana Williams, Paul and Mary Lewis, Ann Jackson (her poor Albert at work) and Billy and Bobbie Connally. We welcome guests anytime! Congratulations to Howell and Mary Ferguson, missionaries, who celebrated wedding anniversary 27, in Chimala Thursday, October 28.His web message that day was on the give and take of marriage and acceptance of the other mate, no matter how different from you, because you made the vow to do such before God. The company that employs Deborah Connally of Crockett County is again flying her out of the country for training that she will use in her work, this time Shanghai,China. She is the mother of Justin and Chastity. Sunday October 31, Westside will host the County- Wide Singing at 2:30 p.m. All congregations are invited to participate. Fishers of Men Bible Class will meet once more followed by the final week when certificates of awards will be presented at their banquet. The twelve-week study course was taught by Bro. Tim Wilkins, an elder of Coldwater, MS congregation. All class members have been successful in the program that invites one to their own study of the Bible and what it teaches to do to be saved. There have been 2 or more baptisms already. Yevonne Mathias is scheduled for knee surgery Nov.2, and Robbie Piercey will undergo tests and procedures soon. Let’s pray for all our sick and shut-ins who are every one missed. C.L. Shelton, brother of Floyd, may soon be strong enough to be transferred to TN, after undergoing heart surgery in AL, where he has remained approximately six weeks in ICU.
