HAITI MISSION REPORT APRIL 6 -18, 2018

ST. DAMIEN HOSPITAL PORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI

ROTARIANS SERVING HUMANITY

During this mission, our 16th to Haiti since 2012, the lives of 12 children and their families were transformed. Thanks to the many dedicated healthcare professionals, volunteers, and the generous grant contributors, 12 parents now have hope for a healthier and brighter future for their children. Our sincere thanks to the visiting healthcare professionals from Ospedale Pediatrico Gaslini in Genoa, Italy, led by pediatric cardiac surgeons Dr. Francesco Santoro and Dr. Elena Ribera, and from Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio, as well as doctors and nurses who joined the team from other U.S. and Canadian Hospitals. Thank you to the Haitian team who worked side by side with visiting team members to enhance their skills in caring for Haitian children with heart disease.   None of this would be possible without the incredible support of all Rotary Global Grant contributors. This was the third surgical mission sponsored through this Rotary Global Grant which is partnered by the Verrazano Rotary Club and the Port-au-Prince Rotary Club. Last but certainly not least, thank you to Dr. Jacqueline Gautier and everyone at St. Damien Hospital for their support and to our partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance for their love and dedication to the children of Haiti. Gift of Life International is proud to work together with Rotarians, hospital administrators, healthcare professionals and like-minded partners to bring hope to children with heart disease.  We are the only consortium of non-profit organizations currently in Haiti performing heart surgery either on children or adults. Additionally, we wish to express our gratitude to The Flying Angels Foundation for their generosity in providing 5 airline tickets for the Italian medical team. Last but certainly not least, we wish to thank our generous medical suppliers (Medtronic, Abbott Laboratories, MedShare and Gore Medical for donating product which helped give these children a second chance at life.
