I am pleased to welcome many of you back – we have seen a number of LEADERship
Alumni in the last fewmonths that we have not seen in a while! Last year we spent a
lot of time and energy revitalizing our YouthAlumni program and this year we are
focusing on creating programs that will highlight important things in our community
that will also inspire you to attend events.
So far this year, our Lunch and Learns have been at capacity with artist and sculptor
Geoffrey Smith, Fire Chief Bill Schobel and Clerk of the Court Carolyn Timmann. We
had a successful After Hours in October which raised money for our Scholarship
Program. This month we are focusing on SERVICE and encouraging all Alumni to volunteer at
least one hour in the community in November and to join us at the United Way of Martin County’s
White Doves Holiday Project on December 17th or 19th.
There are more than 800 graduates of LEADERship Martin County, and our graduates are the
“Who’s Who” of Martin County. We appreciate your role in making our community such a great
place to live and work. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you at an event this year.

Last year under the leadership of
Peter Kemp, LEADERship Alumni
Board representatives met with top
administrators of the Martin County
school district. The first objective
was to thank the school district for
our strong partnership in the Youth
LEADERship program and the sup-
port the district has given to the program since its inception. The second objective
was to identify any specific need the school district has that LEADERship can
help fill.
The discussion led to our awareness of the Yellow Brick Road, a career-oriented
program for select juniors and seniors who demonstrate a desire and capacity to
succeed. Through a series of day-long workshops, students interact with business
and community members to gain knowledge and skills for budgeting and manag-
ing finances, employer expectations, dressing for success, resume writing, job
interviews and preparing for college.
The LEADERship Martin County Alumni board voted to underwrite the Yellow
Brick Road Program for the 2028-19 school year and presented Dr. Mark Mal-
ham, the coordinator of the program, with a check for $2,500 in August. We are
excited to assist the school district with a program that we feel will make THE
difference for selected students in preparing them for a lifetime of success.
