Manual Lifting Guidelines� Use the graph below when deciding on storage

locations for any materials

� Use the lightest weight listed depending on start/end

position of lift

� Before any lift always conduct a �Stand Back 5x5�

before starting any lift

� Always use correct SIPP lifting technique

� Position the load within your GREEN ZONE whenever

possible.

� Warm up to work - A quick stretch before and after

lifting will significantly reduce any chance of injury.

� The maximum guidance weight for men is 25kg

(55lb), for women it is 16Kg (35lbs)

� Where product weight exceeds guidance weight

(below) local HSE should be consulted.

� The overall weight of a load is only ONE factor

involved with a safe and secure manual lift. Other

factors which need to be considered are;·

SIPP Zone of lift (green, yellow, red)

Start and end point of lift

Duration of lift

Frequency of lift

Center of mass of the load

Type, design and position of handles

Environmental factors (heat/cold etc.)

Terrain and ground conditions

Confined spaces

� The maximum guidance weight shown is for loads

lifted in normal conditions from the positions

indicated.

� Gridblocks represent the height and position of the

load to be lifted. Always move to the location closest

to the body if possible.

� Examine the start and end point of the lift.

The lowest guidance weight should be

used.

� Limb dimensions shown are for

guidance only. Actual dimensions

will vary depending on the

individual.
