X

Occupancy Sensors

1. Passive Infrared (PIR)

Sense difference in heat

Require a direct line of sight

Limited sensitivity (15ft or less)

2. Ultrasonic

Sense change in frequency

Can see around corners and objects

Sensitivity up to 25ft

3. Dual-technology

Use PIR and ultrasonic technology

Greatly reduce false on/offs

Occupancy Sensors

Ceiling/High Wall/Corner Mounted

Use in large areas with obstacles/corridors/aisles

Installation cost is 2 to 3 times greater

Economical if controlling large zones

Occupancy Sensors

Wall Switch

Use in small, enclosed spaces

Require a clear line of sight between

sensor and task area

Inexpensive and easy to install

Occupancy Sensors

Leading cause of problems is improper coordination between coverage area and

required sensitivity.

Various sizes and shapes of coverage are available for each type of technology.

Small spaces may only require one sensor.

Large areas may require several sensors, each covering its own zone.

Coverage zones should overlap by 20%

Set time delay – 15 min recommended

Set sensitivity – reduce false-ons

Occupancy Sensors

1. Line Voltage Sensor – no power pack, less coverage

2. Self Calibration Sensor – install and forget

3. Manual On Sensor – manual turn on, automatic shut-off

4. Microphonics – detect noise within the area

5. Daylight Switching Sensor – use photo sensor, depends on daylight

6. Automatic Dimming – control dimming ballast
