The disappearance and subsequent discovery of the body of a local school girl at Tshidzini outside Thohoyandou last week led to a cha-otic and violent situation, with angry residents venting their feelings through acts of violence and destruction.

From left are the acting mayor of the Makhado municipality, Cllr David Davhana, Mr Joseph Lishivha, Thovhele Vho-Vele Kutama and at the far right are Phalaphala FM station manager, Freddy Sadiki, and other dignitaries.

A pensioner, Mr Joseph Lishivha, and his disabled wife were overjoyed when Phalaphala FM and Correc-tional Services presented them with a five-roomed house. The presentation recently took place at the family’s home village of Madodonga.

Lishivha has been staying in a dilapidated mud hut for years. When it rains, the dilapidated hut is always full of water.

The s ta t ion manager of Phalaphala FM, Mr Freddy Sa-diki, said that the public broad-

caster was proud to be part of a good deed aimed at uplifting the community. “The station deemed it fit as a mouthpiece to embark on this initiative and to be able to make a difference in the lives of ordinary, destitute people,” said Sadiki. He added that they had asked their listeners to identify those without proper shelter and who usually did not know where their next plate of food would come from. He mentioned in an interview that their intention was to build one house. When realis-ing the need in the area, they were

so touched that they then decided to build many houses around the Vhembe area.

With the help of the local struc-ture and the royal council, the station went on air, highlighting the needs in the area. Several local businesses donated materi-als. The beneficiary, Mr Joseph Lishivha, expressed delight and gratitude for what the donors had done for them, saying it meant a lot to them. He told Limpopo Mirror that the former house had no privacy and that they had to sleep on the cold floor.

Pupils at Mamathiliedzha Primary School outside Thohoyandou, who used to go to school barefoot and in worn-out uniforms, recently said goodbye to their tattered uniforms

A recent donation of 100 pens, pencils, 10 blan-kets for the Grade Rs and 120 full uniforms brought new hope for the disadvantaged and needy pupils at the rural school. The school has 250 pupils and has always been one of the poorest.

Several local businesses pooled their resources together and brought the consignment amidst

One of the region’s best-known clergymen and a very respected missionary, Rev Louis Schnetler, passed away on Saturday afternoon.

Rev Schnetler was active in the Soutpansberg region since 1986 and he will not only be remem-bered for his missionary work, but also for the num-ber of churches he helped to build. Among these are churches in Midoroni, Muraleng, Vleifontein, Makhado (Nzhelele), Matshavhawe and Mpheni.

Rev Schnetler will be especially remembered for his generosity and his willingness to always extend a helping hand to people around him. “In times of need he came out on his own to help. He would have given his own car if you needed transport,” said a good friend of his, Rev Henry Nengovhela.

Gideon Louis Schnetler was born on 27 January 1945 in Maraisburg, Johannesburg. He finished matric at the John Orr Technical School and then qualified as a draftsman. He worked for 10 years, but realised that he was being called to spread the Gospel. He started studying part time at the Dutch Reformed theological school in Pretoria and in 1979 he was admitted as a minister of the church.

In 1971 he married his wife, Sarie, and they were blessed with four children. Even while he was still studying, Louis Schnetler had a passion for missionary work. It was also very fitting that his first calling was to the Kgapane congregation near the then Duivelskloof.

In 1986 the Schnetler family arrived in Louis Trichardt, where Louis was appointed as minister of the Uniting Reformed Church (URC), responsible for the Kranspoort ring. He served in this position until his retirement in 2008. He was also the reliev-ing minister for the URC’s Mara congregation in Buysdorp for a period of six years.

Rev Schnetler always had a very practical approach to problems and used his knowledge as a draftsman and a builder to good effect. Rev Nengovhela explains that at places such as the Kranspoort missionary farm, Rev Schnetler or-ganised farming activities that generated the cost of salaries.

Rev Schnetler was instrumental in the establish-ment of the Tshitandani centre for destitute children in Tshikota. He also served for more than 20 years on the board of trustees for Ons Tuiste old-age home in Louis Trichardt.

setback when he had a stroke, after which he was mostly in bed. In spite of his declining health, he tried his best to be involved in the lives of his friends and family.

He leaves behind his wife, Sarie, to whom he was married for 44 years, and four children, Cara (with husband Gavin), Ronel (with husband Michael), Gideon (with wife Roelene) and Erard. He also leaves behind four grandchildren.

ululations and songs by happy parents and staff at the school.

The consignment brought joy to the pupils and one could read on their faces that their dignity and confidence had been restored.

The ecstatic principal of the school, Mr Mmbangiseni Nengwenani, explained that their school was situated in one of the poorest areas in Thulamela, where only a few of the parents were working. “We are operating from a very disadvan-taged position, where poverty is rife and school uniforms are luxuries. We are greatly humbled that they were touched and thought of the poor children coming to school barefoot and with torn uniforms,” he said. Nengwenani further stated that they still faced the challenge of overcrowding, where two teachers use one classroom for lessons - a situation that is not conducive to proper learning.

School SGB member Mr Mulatedzi Mugwedi said many pupils bunked classes because they did not have uniforms.

“The uniforms will encourage pupils to come to school and also boost their morale and self-esteem and urge them to work harder,” he said.

Continued from p1.This has led to cases being

transferred from the station and now being investigated by a task team at cluster level.

The latest discovery, that of the body at Tshidzini, has also led to the destruction of property in the area, with two taverns and other businesses being broken into and looted before being set alight. The situation calmed down last week. School children were able to go to school and it was business as usual until Tuesday this week.

After a week’s break, inci-dents of burning and destruction have been reported in the villag-es of Gaba, Tshidzini, Tshaulu and Matsika. Several businesses and households were reportedly looted and burnt during a day of

terror on Tuesday. One of those who suffered

losses is tavern owner Daniel Nengovhela of Danaz Tavern at Matsika. He said a mob num-bering close to 100 from sur-rounding villages of Tshidzini, Tshifudi and others destroyed and burnt his property. “They did not know that I was the own-er as they came from different villages. I think jealousy is be-hind the spate of destruction of businesses, and we are no longer safe as businesspeople. My loss is more than a half a million rand.” Thohoyandou police spokesperson Major Mashudu Malelo said the situation was calm but still tense, with some of the roads still barricaded and others with only one lane working. “We can confirm that

a hardware store was looted and burnt down at Tshifudi and two houses burnt at Matsika, while a tavern and a shop were also broken into and burnt. We are patrolling the area and it remains to be seen if other properties were damaged during the night.”

When we were going to press, nobody had been arrested, but Malelo promised that the po-lice would not leave any stone unturned in the hunt for those involved. “We are also making an appeal to those who have information about goods stolen during the protests to come to the fore and help us arrest the perpetrators,” he said.

Malelo said they had opened an inquest docket in respect of the body found at Tshidzini.

Remains of young Thiofelus laid to restThe remains of Thuseo Thiofelus Tshivhi, the young boy who disappeared in 2012, were buried on Saturday at Madombidzha Cemetery.

The ceremony was attended by community members, Cllr David Davhana, family members and Vhamusanda Vho-Ntsundeni Sinthumule.

Tshivhi was an 11-year-old Grade 4 pupil at the Tshilwavhusiku primary school when he disap-peared in 2012. He went missing on 17 January that year after accompanying a neighbouring family to a mountain in Nzhelele.

The neighbour, who is also a traditional healer, allegedly asked the boy to accompany her and her husband to the mountain, where they planned to

collect traditional herbs. Their two grandchildren accompanied them, as well as a friend from Jo-hannesburg.

A day after the boy went missing, the traditional healer and her husband filed a missing person’s report at the Siloam police station. This was before they notified the young boy’s family of his disap-pearance. Thiofelus’s family then decided to also open a case of kidnapping with the police, stating that they had not been notified and had not given permission for the boy to be taken away.

Five suspects were arrested and charged with kidnapping but were later released because the Director of Public Prosecutions cited a lack of ev-

idence to hold them. After the boy’s disappearance, a rumour spread like wildfire that the man who had left with him had killed him for muti purposes. The rumour left the community in a frenzy, with people destroying property and engaging in acts of vio-lence. The subsequent release of the five suspects further angered the community, and a while later one of the suspects’ house and a car were set alight at Madombidzha.

The boy’s father, Mr Takalani Mabushe, said that they became worried a day after his son went to the mountain with the neighbours. “We searched all over, but he was nowhere to be found. The search continued for a few months, but it was fruitless. I

believe it was my child who was being deliv-ered to muti killers,” he added.

The boy’s bones were later discovered by women who were looking for wood in the mountain. Forensic tests confirmed that they be-longed to the boy.

The spokesperson for the family, Mr Edwin Bugana, said that they wanted the police to re-arrest the suspects. They were also awaiting the results of the foren-sic tests to find out what had caused the death of the boy.

Cllr David Davhana convinced the family members to bury the bones, “but I need the suspects to be brought to book,” he said. Ac-cording to him, the case needs to be reopened.

The Vhembe District Municipality celebrated Casual Day with disabled children of Tshilwavhusiku Razwimbisani Special School at Ha-Ravele outside Louis Trichardt on Friday. In our photo, the principal, Ms Mufunwa Ramutsila is at the far left, while Constance Mphaphuli, portfolio head of special programmes in the Vhembe District Municipality is standing next to her.

A communal farming project in the heart of Levubu, hailed by the Department of Rural De-velopment and Land Reform (DRDLR) as a success story, may not be in such a good state after all. The same department has filed papers in the Gauteng North High Court in an effort to get the communal property association (CPA) to co-operate and not exclude beneficiaries.

Profits of millions claimed

The Mauluma Farming Enter-prise runs five farms in the heart of Levubu on very fertile agricul-tural land. The business belongs to the Ravele CPA, which was formed in the early 2000s to represent the community in a land claim. The claim was final-ised in 2005 and the department spent over R50 million to get the project off the ground. The first few years seemed to be problem-atic and the company was placed under judicial administration between 2008 and 2009.

A strategic partnership was then formed and the CPA started making use of outside expertise to assist them.

In an article that appears on the DRDLR’s website, some impressive figures are quoted. In 2013, the company made a profit of R3,59 million and in 2014 this jumped to almost R5,2 million. For this year, the Ravele CPA expects a profit of between R7 and R9 million. “The projection is quite realistic, considering that the company is in the middle of harvesting and has already sup-plied 340 tons of Macadamia nuts to three factories in the area,” states the article. The company apparently employs 187 workers, 122 of whom are employed on a permanent basis.

Farms are “neglected”The claims of the CPA are,

however, disputed by some members of the Ravele CPA who call themselves the Con-cerned Group. According to their spokesperson, Aifheli Bvumbi, the claims are unrealistic and most of the farms are currently being neglected. He has also stated that most of the beneficia-ries have not benefited from the alleged profits made.

Even neighbouring farmers were very sceptical of the figures

supplied and said that nuts on some farms were not harvested for months and the orchards were not properly treated. The estab-lished farmers were, however, convinced that the farms could produce the tonnage quoted. Two of the five farms where the strategic partnerships are in place seem to be producing well.

Protests from within CPA

It appears as if the lack of farming expertise is not the only problem the Ravele CPA experiences. For the past two years, the CPA has been under pressure from within its own ranks, with beneficiaries claim-ing a lack of transparency and nepotism. The latest court action also seems to be the result of the Concerned Group's complaining to the DRDLR.

The Concerned Group com-prises 15 beneficiaries who have apparently been excluded from activities of the CPA. Four mem-bers, including Mr Bvumbi, have been suspended from par-ticipating in any of the activities of the Ravele CPA or Mauluma Farming Enterprise. According to the letter informing them of their suspension, an investiga-tion was launched as a result of statements they had made on Phalaphala FM.

Lack of transparency claimed

One of the main concerns raised by the group is the ap-parent fronting practices of the Ravele CPA.

They argue that the Ravele CPA is run almost as if it is an extension of the Ravele Royal Family.

The Concerned Group argues that this is unconstitutional and not in line with legislation. This complaint also points to a wider perceived problem, namely that there is a political drive to trans-fer land distributed under the land reform programme to unelected tribal authorities.

The Concerned Group further alleges several irregularities as far as the running of the CPA and the company is concerned. They complain about a lack of transparency, the failure to pro-vide audited financial statements and they accuse the executive committee of only employing

relatives on the farms.

Department takes matter to court

Certain of the frustrations experienced by the Concerned Group seem to be shared by the DRDLR. In the affidavits filed in court, it is clear that the department’s officials could not obtain the CPA’s co-operation. The department has been asking for audited financial statements, minutes of meetings and resolu-tions for almost two years, with limited or no success. “It has become apparent that the respon-dents have taken a decision not to co-operate with my office,” states Mr Petrus Shabane in the affidavit filed on behalf of the department.

When the Ravele CPA was originally formed, it had 807 listed beneficiaries. In December last year, the Ravele CPA held their annual general meeting (AGM), to which all beneficiaries were to be invited. The AGM was also advertised in newspa-pers and members were invited to contact the CPA secretary or chairperson.

In the court documents, the department claims that at least 65 beneficiaries were not informed about the meeting. The depart-ment also claims that the Ravele CPA’s executive committee had deliberately excluded the members who voiced their dis-satisfaction with the way things were being managed.

“AGM not legal”The Ravele CPA’s execu-

tive committee was apparently warned prior to the December 2014 meeting that it first had to update its list of verified benefi-ciaries. “Despite the Ravele CPA Executive’s undertaking that the AGM of 16 December 2014 will not be an elective meeting, the meeting proceeded to hold elections,” reads the affidavit of Shabane.

The chairperson and secretary of the Ravele CPA were asked for comment on the matter this week. Mr Bethuel Ravele, secretary of the CPA, promised in an email to respond, but at the time of our going to press, nothing had been received.

No date has yet been set for the case to be heard in the Gauteng North High Court.

All may not be so well at Ravele CPA

The correctional officers from the Thohoyandou Management Area (Department of Correctional Services) went all out to demonstrate their support for people with disabilities on 4 September. They are seen here clad in Casual Day T-shirts.

Ms Joy Matshoge (Agriculture) said that women should claim their right to make decisions regarding reproductive health. She recently addressed Women's Month celebrations at Madombidzha and condemned the escalation of domestic violence in the area. She encouraged collective action against all types of abuse and added that women should also refrain from keeping quiet when they are being abused. Thovhele Rudzani Sinthumule said during the event that men should lead by example and treat women and children with dignity and respect. “Some men intentionally beat their spouses and apologize the following day," he added. Photographed at the event are, from left to right, the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Nandi Ndalane, MEC Joyce Mashamba, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi (mayor of the Makhado Municipality), MEC Joyce Matsoge, Cllr Lucy Mulaudzi (Vhembe District Municipality), MEC Mapula Mokoba (Transport, Safety and Liasion) and the MEC for the Treasury, Mr Rob Tooley.

Granny still waiting for Department of Transport to intervene in taxi grievanceAn elderly taxi owner, Mrs Mushathama Sarah Makaukau, might have to wait a while longer for her problems to be resolved. She is locked in a dispute between taxi associations and has asked the Department of Transport to intervene.

The registrar at the Department of Transport, Mr Percy Ndlala, promised to send officials to investigate and try to resolve the differences between Ms Makaukau and the Zoutpansberg Taxi Association (ZTA). The said association had allegedly converted her permit from the Hlanga-nani Taxi Association to their taxi association.

Makau previously claimed that the ZTA had been abusing her for some time. She asked the taxi association to release her, so that she could join the association of her own choice.

In March this year Ndlala promised that, since Makaukau was too old to travel to and from Polokwane to his office, he would arrange for officials to meet with her and the ZTA at a venue within the Makhado area.

“Nobody has come to me,” said Makaukau. “He just makes empty promises and I am getting older by the day because of the stress this case is giving me. I am continuing to pay monthly monies to the ZTA and I want the office of the Department of Transport to help. This association owes me around R20 000 and I need my money back.”

The ZTA’s chairperson, Mr Thiathu Maimela, denied Makaukau’s claims of abuse and said that the money she was referring to was for affiliation purposes.

On Wednesday, Ndlala responded to a query

and said that he had sent officials to meet with Makaukau and some of the delegates from the ZTA some time ago. “I am still waiting for their report. I will get back to you with full informa-tion,” he promised.

Makaukau, however, still denies ever seeing the officials in question. “They are delaying this case, so that I may die first and then they will close the file,” she said.

Pensioner accuses members of local church of trying to “steal” his landA 76-year-old man cried bit-terly when members of a local Zion Christian Church started “invading” his property and fencing off a portion of his site to extend the church’s yard.

A resident of Tshivhangani village in the Mulima area, Mr Joseph Nwandula, said that the ZCC branch (Selokwe Mission) was stealing his piece of land. “They are taking my land by force,” Nwandula wept. “I hold a title deed for this piece of land, but my fellow congregants, whose church is my neighbour, are extending the yard of the church into my yard.”

Joseph said that the local church leadership and the head lady of Tshivhangani village were persecuting him. “I even stopped going to church,” he said. “I won’t go to the same church with people who do not have the fear of God. This church is stealing my land.”

When Limpopo Mirror arrived at the village, a group of church members who were busy erecting the fence ran away. All mem-bers who were in the church’s yard also deserted the church and shut the gate behind them. They all declined to speak to the journalist and said all queries should be directed to the Mulima Traditional Council as the correct body to distribute portions of land to people.

A group of youths assisted

Nwandula to uproot all the poles and throw them over the fence into the church yard again. “If they erect their poles again, I will use a chainsaw to cut off all those poles and set them alight,” he said. “I worked very hard to clear all the trees that were here, and now they just want to occupy my land for free. No, that won’t happen.”

The spokesperson for the Mulima Traditional Council, Mr Moses Raswiswi, said that the document which Nwandula held was not a title deed. “He was given written permission to use a portion of the land for private use, such as planting mealies and so on,” he said. “The piece of land in question is near his residential site. It was not titled

to him.”He added that the council had

discussed Nwandula’s case on 1 April, when the land in question was given to the church. “We have decided to give that piece of land to the church,” Raswiswi said. “If Nwandula needs anoth-er space, he must come to our offices and we will see how best to help him.”

Nwandula said that, according to his understanding, the piece of land was given to him by the Mulima Traditional Council and that he saw no reason why the very council must give the same land to another party. “I worked hard clearing this land, and each year I plough (for) mealies and other veggies in summer,” he said.

An aggrieved Mr Joseph Nwandula digs up a pole which the ZCC branch (Selokwe Mission) had erected in his “yard”.

An ex-offender, Joshua Nndindeleni Ratshi-tanga, who spent more than 13 years in prison, launched his book, The Wisdom of God in You, at the Kutama Sinthumule Correctional Centre a fortnight ago.

Ratshitanga, a political activist, motivational speaker and poet, had completed his manuscript while doing time in the facility. He was lucky enough for his book to win the hearts of the pub-lishers at Muanza Zwivhuya Publishing House, who eventually published it.

The guests at the event included ex-offenders, friends of the author and delegates from local and provincial government. The MEC for Transport, Safety Security and Liaison, Ms Mapula Mok-aba-Phukwana, reminded the audience that it was hard for prisoners to focus on rehabilitation

during the former political dispensation. “You will all agree that imprisonment was associated with hard labour and negative attitudes from prison offi cials,” she said. “Thanks to the new ethos of our democracy, which came up with programmes aimed at turning our prisons into centres of excel-lence, our focus is now on rehabilitation and not retribution.”

She indicated that all correctional offi cers who were involved in rehabilitating Ratshitanga de-served praise for making sure that the conditions at their facilities were conducive to allowing a writer to excel at his work.

“Writing is a solitary-confi nement activity,” she said. “It does not and cannot take place in a disorganised and noisy environment. Excellent writing like what we are witnessing here today is a product of ideas conceived in empowering correctional centres.”

Mokaba-Phukwana added that it was her wish that The Wisdom of God in You could be prescribed as a textbook to be read in schools in the near fu-ture. “By the time we reach that stage, we should fi nd it easy to choose from your collection,” she said. “So, Mr Ratshitanga, this book cannot be your fi rst and last. I therefore urge you to make use of this gift while it lasts. Keep on writing.”

Ratshitanga’s proud publisher, Dr Annikie Ravhudzulo, said that she had noticed the unde-niable talent in the writer and decided to develop his manuscript for publishing. “As a publisher, I do not judge people by their outward appearance. I receive the manuscript of whoever has written a book and put it through the evaluation process,” she said. She urged all inmates and guests at the book launch to be strong in life if they wanted to realise their dreams. Ravhudzulo told the inmates that they had not been created to be in jail.

Ex-offender launches his fi rst book

He is working as a soldier during the day, but after hours, he sings Venda rumba music, says Muzondwa Salani.

Salani (47), from the rural village of Muhuyu, has just released his fi rst CD, Limpopo Volume One. He is stationed at the Vuwani Military Base, better known as 15 SAI Battalion.

The CD consists of fi ve tracks, viz. Limpopo, Ndi Mutonga, Musina, Ndo Neta and a bonus track. He said that he was inspired by the late Amon Mvula during his performances when he visited Musina while still working there.

On the track Ndi Mutonga, the singer says that he wants to inform the listeners that a Mutonga or Shangaan does not have secrets in his life. He speak out against everything that is happening, good or bad.

On the track Musina, he want to say that the life in Musina is very fast and he saw many people living in squatter camps as he also works sometimes in Musina. “In Ndo Neta, meaning I am tired, people should leave me alone,” added Salani. He said his new CD was recorded at DJ Takkie Studios in Mianzwi village and it was released about two months ago.

For live performances, he can be phoned at 072 209 6539.

“Change your mindset; even God is not happy about your being in prison,” she said. “When you get a chance, go out there and behave as a human being.” The chief deputy commissioner for the national Department of Correctional Services, Mr Nick Ligege, congratulated the author and said that South Africa was still expecting more books from him. “A widespread culture of reading and writing will assist us as nation to meet the demands of de-veloping a knowledgeable society,” he said. “The importance of reading in order to achieve success is fundamental for individuals and essential for nation-building and social cohension.”

Mokaba-Phokwana bought at least 500 units of Ratshitanga’s book. The group COO for Khensani Corrections (which is responsible for education at KSCC), Mr Gregory Starke, said that the author’s achievement needed to be celebrated.

Rural women take charge of their livesThe rural women of Tshivhu-lana village outside Vuwani are taking charge of their lives in a very positive way.

After they were initially grouped into a care group, they changed it to the Tshivhulana Community Garden, with the emphasis on growing vegetables to feed the community and to make an income.

Despite the odds and with membership dropping because of a lack of finances, the gar-den has gone from strength to strength.

With only five members left, the four hectares today produce spinach, beetroot, pumpkins, tomatoes and green chillies on a regular basis. The vegetables

serve as a source of food for members and the surpluses are sold at big shops and to the local community.

One of the founder members of the project, Ms Ethel Neswis-wi (54), said the project had ele-vated the lives of many women in the village. “We used to sit at home and do nothing; most of the time we used our time in a negative way, gossiping about others and not doing anything constructive. We felt we could do something positive for our-selves and our families, and the garden is doing the trick.”

Their working hours are from 08:00 to 15:00 and they work very hard each day. “When we go back home, we are tired and

do not have time for what we used to do,” she said. She added that they used to wait for their husbands to do everything for them, but now they can also do something to support their fam-ilies. The high cost of the elec-tricity is, however, consuming much of their profits, she said.

She advised women that the country was full of opportunities and they must use these and not sit down and wait for handouts. “As rural women living where employment opportunities are rare, we can always create em-ployment for ourselves by using God’s resources such as the soil that is available everywhere,” she said.

Project members are, from left to right, Mr Collen Muravha and Mesdames Elisa Neswiswi, Julia Ndou and Ethel Neswiswi, with their fresh vegetables.

The pupils of the Petamukan-da Primary Schools excelled in tshigombela, malende and drawing during the recent SoulBent Project Masase Cul-tural and Drama Event.

The school won first prizes in all three the categories.

The groups’ co-ordinator and trainer, Ms Janet Mashau, said that the victory spelt a celebra-tion for the entire school. “We are excited and happy, we pride ourselves on our pupils,” she said. “We are really movivated. At the school we encourage our children to get involved in as many extra-mural activities as possible. This also helps in giving the pupils more energy and stami-na to face the school work, after refreshing with cultural activities

and sports.”The annual cultural compe-

tition for schools is hosted by the SoulBent Project Masase Cultural Drama Event and strives to empower young people in townships and rural areas to reach their full artistic potential by assisting them with infor-mation, advice and skills that will lead to empowerment and employment. The organization is managed by a board committee, and qualified youth management staff and volunteers assist in the daily management and execution of projects.

Some schools in the Sinthu-mule area participated in the competition, for the titles in best drama, best malende, best tshigombela, best sarafina dance,

best mango groove dance, best tshifase, best pantsula dance, best tshingondo and best poetry.

The following schools partic-ipated in the project: Sinugani Secondary, Magau Primary, Maluta Secondary, Ndwakhulu Primary, Jonathan Thifhulufhel-wi Secondary, Petamukanda Primary, Tshikwarani Primary, Tshikhwani Primary, Ramantsha Senior Secondary and Munau Primary.

P e t a m u k a n d a P r i m a r y School’s deputy principal, Ms Elizabeth Siliga, said that the pupils were very happy about participating in the SoulBent competition. “The competition brings back a love for Tshivenda culture and heritage to the pu-pils,” she said.

Matsila Project puts food on the table for over 500 families

By Silas Nduvheni

Road between Matsakali and Altein to be tarred soon

The Matsila Community Devel-opment Trust was established by the Matsila Royal Family, in consultation with the community, to facilitate and coordinate so-cio-economic development activi-ties within Ha-Matsila Village and the surrounding communities.

The project was funded by the National Lottery Board by approxi-mately R54 million three years ago and aims to curb the unemployment in the area. At this stage, about 500 people from the area are employed at the project. Women are involved in many projects, including wood carv-ing and sculptures that range from wooden drums, walking sticks and spherical calabashes to spoons and other wooden decorative ornaments.

Agricultural projects include cat-tle, goat, sheep and chicken farming, the making of clay cooking pots and the cutting of bushes.

Although the project started small, it has now grown bigger than before. The spokesperson added that, through these projects, several community members from Matsila, De Hoop,

Majosi, Bungeni, Nkuzana and Masia are now able to put food on the table. “This is a blessing to the women, as they never expected that their project would go this far,” he added.

According one woman, Ms Maria Siphugu, their days were difficult before being employed at the project, but now things are running smoothly. “We want to encourage other women to emulate what we are doing,” she said. “When we joined the project, we did not know that one day we would find ourselves being able to provide for our families. Things were difficult when we started, but through hard work and commitment, we managed to make the project sustainable.”

She added that all her children were still at school and they solely depended on the income from the project.

Chief Livhuwani Matsila said he was excited about the assistance from the National Lottery Board. “With such help, the sky is the limit for us,” he added. He said he could see the project employing more than 1 000 workers in the near future.

The long-awaited tarring of the D4 road and the up-grading of the road between the Matsakali villages to Altein in Malamulele has just begun.

The construction of the 17,8 kilometres, which will cost more than R116 million, started last Friday and is ex-pected to be completed next December.

Mr Shadrack Makhuvha, project manager of Edwin Construction, the constructors of the road, said that the affect-ed communities would benefit from the project through jobs,

training and the obtaining of other skills. Sub-contractors will also be needed to render certain services.

“We purchased our taxis through the recapitalisation

process of the the govern-ment, but due to the bumpy and dusty D4 road, our taxis got damaged very quickly and the maintenance and payment of other services are very expensive. Because of that, we always ran our businesses at a loss,” said Mr Daniel Chauke, one of the taxi operators in the Malam-ulele area.

Chauke said their vehicles would now be safe from potholes, gravel and the dust that affected their passengers.

The acting executive may-or of Vhembe District Mu-nicipality, Cllr Faith Chauke, said that the road would create opportunities for tour-ism, because it would link the community and the Kru-ger National Park. “The D4 road was therefore our first priority regarding the tarring of roads”.

At the age of 16, a then Grade 12 pupil, Lady J, joined PhalaPhala FM radio as a presenter and instantly became the darling of the airwaves. Her soft, velvety voice endeared her to thousands of children out there as she hosted the children’s show.

Today she still presents the kiddies’ show, Denzhe, on Fridays between 14:30 and 15:00. She also presents Matambandou on Satur-days and Sundays between 03:00 and 06:00.

“Weekends are days for social-izing with friends and relatives, so we look at travelling tips for our travellers. Besides that, we also do DIY tips, cost-saving tips, wisdom quotes and a tribute to African excellence where we celebrate African artistry,” she says.

Lady J is a proud product of Mungomani Primary School, where she started her schooling in 1990, Mopani Intermediate Boarding school, where she completed her primary education in 1996, and Pat-rick Ramaano Secondary School, where she matriculated in 2001.

From Patrick Ramaano, Lady J went to Rosebank College where she completed her National Di-ploma in Media Studies and Jour-nalism. She is now furthering her studies, doing advertising and marketing manage-ment.

She was just a t iny l i t t le girl in 2001 w h e n s h e was picked during Phal-aphala FM’s In te rna t ion-a l Chi ld ren’s Broadcasting Day to become the sta-tion’s

freelance presenter for doing the kiddies show called Denzhe, which loosely translated means “Lamp”.

“I went to attend the event, not knowing that the day would turn out to be my big day. I guess my being hyperactive and vocal afforded me this once-in-a-lifetime opportuni-ty,” says Lady J.

Her love for radio was certainly big, but not big enough to deter her from seeking education as she left Phalaphala FM in 2003 to go back to school to further her studies. She rejoined the station in March 2006 as a producer and presenter of Denzhe.

“I have to admit that I really missed radio during my absence,” she added. “The nostalgia was just too much, but I had to keep going because education always comes fi rst. I had the opportunity to forget it and make money, but I decided to go for education fi rst, and money later. As they say, ‘Work like a slave and live like a Queen’,” she said, her face beaming with pride.

World Vision donates bicycles to schools

By Silas Nduvheni

World Vision South Africa do-nated 300 bicycles to the poor pupils from Malovhana High and Tshinaga High to end the pupils’ long walk to school. The official handing over was held at Masakona last Thursday.

The aim of the World Vision project was to provide transport to people in rural areas to im-prove access to education, said Mr Cedrick Rachuene, develop-ment facilitator at World Vision South Africa. The requirement for the project was that children should be from low-income families, must be between Grade 3 and 12, and must have the ca-pacity to ride the bicycles.

When using the bicycles, the pupils must wear visible clothing and they must understand the basics of road safety education. They were also selected from children who walk more than three kilometres per day as a single trip to the school. The conditions also specify that the schools should ensure that the learners use the bicycles mainly for school purposes. The schools must also keep the bicycles un-der lock and key on the school premises during the school holidays. The learners are also expected to return the bicycles as the property of the school when they leave the school.

The school will also have the right to withdraw the bicycles from the learners who do not comply by either not taking good care of the bicycles or not cycling to school regularly and those who

drop out of school within a period of a year. “It has always been our concern that many children were walking long distances to acquire their education, especially in the rural communities. Through partnerships of this nature, we can easily win the war against poverty, illiteracy and underde-velopment.”

One of the recipients, Beuaty Mulala of Malovhana High, said she could not believe it when she was told that she was going to receive a free bicycle that would transport her to school every day. “I used to travel to school on foot every day and my situation at home was such that I never dreamt I would ever have a bicycle that would transport me to school,” she added. She

also mentioned that she always arrived an hour late for school due to circumstances beyond her control. She walks the seven kilo-metres to school, arriving an hour after starting time.”My name is always on the latecomer’s list,” she said, but her unemployed mother was not in a position to buy her a bicycle.

According to Thovhele Vhali-navho-Masakona, this is in line with the province’s initiative to promote cycling as a mode of transport for commuters and pupils. “Bicycles will not only save time, but will also keep our bodies healthy as they are an ex-cellent form of exercise. This has been proven in many overseas countries where even aged people are still going strongly,” he said.

Employees of the Thulamela local municipality in Limpopo were encouraged to maintain a healthy lifestyle, so that they can be productive at the work place.

The municipality hosted a wellness day for its employees and emphasised the benefits of emotional wellness at Thohoy-andou Indoor Sports Centre on Friday.

Mayor Grace Mahosi said when employees were healthy it helped to increase productivity in the work place. She appealed to them to eat healthy food, exercise and deal with problems constructively. She also stressed the importance of participating in sports. During the event, the employees took part in various activities, including races, beau-ty contests and tug of war.

Municipal spokesperson Nnd-wamato Tshiila said since they started the programme, the ma-jority of employees were eagerly participating in various activities and they were always staying healthy at the work place.

The manager for sports and recreation at the Thulamela mu-nicipality, Mr Ronald Makhadi, said he was excited that employ-ees participated in sports.

Employees working in the Thulamela local muncipality participate in the tug of war.

Coach Matloga wants more silverware (and prize money) for Benny’s Sports

By Elmon Tshikhudo

Mbilwi pupil hoists the school’s flag highAfter recently winning the provincial leg of the Kay Motsepe Schools Cup for the fifth time, Coach Justice Matloga of Benny’s Sports Devel-opment Academy is aiming for more silverware - this time also the huge R1 million purse as the winner of the national finals.

The event will take place from 3 to 5 October in Gauteng.

Matloga has coached all five teams to victory and admits that every year is challenging. “Each year is a different experience. We never know what to expect as it is not like we have a winning formula for every match,” he said.

This year’s team is a young one, made up of mainly 17-year-olds. Matloga said the idea was to give them some experience in the competition. “They will have three years to cut their teeth in this tournament, which is excellent exposure for them,” he said.

He added that the dedication of the youngsters surprised him. “They did exceptionally well in this tournament, and I know that they will continue to surprise me even further at the nationals. Last year, the team struggled in the finals and were eventually placed 11th in the tournament.

“Winning the nationals has been long overdue. We started playing in the tournament a long time ago and this year our primary goal is to win the national title. These young players have the energy and the hunger for success.”

Matloga is well aware of what the nationals are all about and admits that it is a different ball game compared to the provincials. “The competition is tighter and the standards are extremely high. Then there are scouts from the clubs there, which all adds pressure on the boys as they have to perform.”

Coach Matloga has been at Benny’s for 11 years now, and his philosophy is to enter all the teams into as many different soccer tournaments as possible to make sure that the players gain practical knowledge of the game. “We identify players from the U/12 age group and nurture them as they progress through the various age groups to ensure that they develop good habits and are well disciplined,” he added.

A Grade-12-pupil at Mbilwi Secondary School, one of the best-performing schools in the country, has made his school and community very proud after winning a top interna-tional science competition.

Hamandishe Mathivha (17) of Sibasa started his winning spree by winning the Nation-al Science Olympiad while in Grade 10 in 2013. For his achievement, he won a trip to London. In 2014, he won the competition for the second time and went to Australia as part of his prize.

This year he won the compe-tition once more and received R40 000 in prizes. The Minister

of Science and Technology, Ms Naledi Pandor, congratulated him, referring to him as a “sci-ence olympiad veteran”. As if that was not enough, Mathivha also won a prize in the Physics Olympiad, hosted by the South African Institute of Physics (SAIP).

He came second, winning himself a silver certificate and R1000 in cash for his efforts. As part of their prizes, the winners will also attend a conference in Cape Town next year.

The prizes were handed over at the school on Monday by the president of the South African Physics Olympiad and also a former pupil of Mbilwi,

Prof Azwindini Muronga of the University of Johannesburg. Muronga said the competition was aimed at raising awareness in physics and its importance in people’s daily lives. He said it was also aimed at identifying pupils with ability in physics with the aim of encouraging them to follow it at tertiary level.

The ecstatic principal of the school, Mr Cedric Lidzhade, could not hide his happiness. “We are a winning school and this is history for our school. We are so excited as this will also encourage other pupils to study harder and to enter com-petitions,” he said.

Physics star Hamandishe Mathivha (in uniform) receives his prizes from Ms Ndanganeni Mahani of SAIP (3rd from right), while SAIP president Prof Azwinndini Muronga (left), Principal Cedric Lidzhade (second from left) and other dignitaries look on.

Hlanganani FM hits the airwaves in styleA new radio station for the Vhembe area hit the airwaves last Thursday. Hlanganani Radio hopes to build a solid listenership base in areas such as Bungeni (where it is situated), Masham-ba, Tiyani, Olifantshoek and Elim.

One of the driving forces behind the project is veteran broadcaster Ernest Makhayingi Nkanyani, more commonly known by his clan name Mamba Ya Vukarhi (which means the fierce mamba snake).

Speaking at the launching ceremony at Bungeni, he said everybody at the station had to sacrifice a lot to make the dream come true.

Nkanyani said the station would boost eco-nomic activity in the area. “Adverts, partnerships, sponsorships and government programmes will help sustain the station, because community radio stations rarely survive,” said Nkanyani. The station will broadcast on 96.2Mhz.

Excited staff members told their manager that they would not disappoint him, the board of di-rectors and the community at large that had high expectations for the station.

The community had to wait several years for a licence for the station to be granted from the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.

The operational costs, including the equipment, were funded by the Media Development and Di-versity Agency.

Programme manager Surprise Mthombeni, head technician Nyiko Baloyi and head of news Tsakani Chauke pose for a photo during the launch.

Learn more about the law, women toldWomen working for the De-partment of Education in the Vhembe region were urged to empower each other with in-formation about the Acts that are designed to liberate them.

The call was made by Dr Livhuwani Mafenya, a senior manager in the Mopani region in the Department. She was the guest speaker during the cele-bration of Women’s Month for women working in the Vhembe region during an event held

at the Thohoyandou Arts and Culture about three weeks ago.

Mafenya said that, for many years, women were born de-pending on men for everything “and we call upon the women to change that mindset and be independent and become able to do things themselves.

Women must also teach each other skills on how to sus-tain themselves economically and even things affecting their family matters. Women can lead nowadays and take higher

positions which were tradition-ally reserved for men,” added Mafenya.

Dr Gerson Rambiyana, the senior manager in the depart-ment in the Vhembe region, said women should learn to grab opportunities that are available to help them to do things themselves. “Women are liberated today and they must show they have the capacity to lead, even in jobs traditionally known to be male-dominated,” said Rambiyana.

rsLadies to hold car wash as a fundraiser

Opportunity for illiterate communities to study

Thousands expected at King Toni’s Musangwe tournament

Your car in need of a wash? La-dies Circle 4 in Louis Trichardt can help you out on Saturday, 19 September, when they will be washing cars as part of their

ongoing fundraising projects. The car wash will take place

at Die Grasdak in Celliers Street from 12:00 until 16:00. While waiting for you vehicle to

be completed, a pub lunch can be enjoyed at the special price of R70.

For more information, phone Riana Otto at Tel 084 400 9941.

Illiterate people, particularly in the rural areas in Vhembe, will receive the opportunity to learn to speak English and how write in their own language.

The chief executive officer of Khari Gude (Let’s Learn) Mass Literacy Campaign, Dr Mo-rongwa Ramarumo, addressed more than 200 people, including supervisors and coordinators of the campaign, during a two-day workshop in Thohoyandou Li-brary hall a fortnight ago. He said that the trainee supervisors and coordinators would train illiterate

adult people in their communities how to write Tshivenda, Tsonga and teach them to speak English.

“We are teaching the super-visors in the Vhembe region to assist illiterate people. We also provide short-term work oppor-tunities for young graduates to work with the elderly.”

The campaign was launched in 2008 and, according to her, they have already reached 3.8 million adult people country-wide who were not able to read or write their home language or speak English.

Mr Love Masia, the monitor for Khari Gude Campaign in the Vhembe region, said they also taught the supervisors how to us different types of study material. “We also train them on how to claim their stipend every month,” said Masia.

One of the supervisors who attended the workshop, Ms Ger-trude Magadze of Malamulele, said that the workshop was an eye opener for her and others. She said the workshop ensured that the supervisors would be able to provide quality training.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the King Toni Mphephu Ram-abulana Musangwe Heritage event that will take place at the Nandoni Royal Gardens today (Friday)

The event will start with a 15 km health walk. King Mphephu said that the main idea of the health walk was to keep people fit and inform them about health. The walk will start at Lufule at 08:00 and finish at

Nandoni. He expects that more than 10 000 people will participate.

He commended the organisers for keeping the communities fit. “You are not only winding up time by walking,” he said.

Mr Love Masia, motoring officer for Khari Gude Mass Literacy Campaign in the Vhembe region, photographed with an award he received for implementing the Khari Gude Campaign in the Vhembe communities.

“You are keeping your bodies healthy and you must remember that a healthy body has a healthy mind. Let’s do away with the idea that elders are supposed to sit at home, doing nothing until sunset.”

According to Mphephu Ramabulana, the cultural event was planned to show-case the cultural diversity of Vhembe. During events like these, the traditional leaders celebrate the uniqueness of their culture, he added. He also mentioned in an interview that the royal council is committed to preserving the Venda cul-ture “and they felt bound to support the tournament, as musangwe formed part of the Venda culture.”

He praised the organisers for bringing back the forgotten cultural sport.

Musangwe boss Mr Patrick Ramarada said he was expecting thousands of people at the ring at this year’s final. “The fights were started by our ancestors and our event is supported by the local traditional leaders,” Ramarada said. “Preparations have been finalised, and with the blessings of the traditional leaders, escpecially King Toni Mphephu Ramababulana, nothing is going to stop the event from being a success,” added Ramarada.

A local fighter, Steven Ndiitwani, said he was more than ready. “Anybody who challenges me should be ready for the consequences. I will face any challenge,” he said.Musangwe fighters in action.

She was hospitalized for a short period in Polokwane and succumbed to her illness on 21 May. She was married to Elvis for the last 20 years. She is survived by her husband, three brothers and one sister. Mutshidzi Nemaxwi stretches to win the ball, while Thabiso Makatu is ready to attack from behind.

Easy Mamubezou victory for Benny’sBenny’s Care were too strong for Zoutpansberg Power-line and beat them 3-1 in a Mamubezou tournament match at the Tshiozwi grounds on Sunday.

Powerline created some prom-ising moves from behind in the opening minutes, but their strik-ers let them down by shooting aimlessly. Their overlapping midfielder, Vhutshilo Mafunisa, had his chance in the 15th min-ute. He received a neat pass from Ridzani Neb-ulu and shot wide from just outside the box.

Benny’s were reward-ed with a goal in the 30th minute. Masingita

Shabangu was on target, fol-lowing a mix-up within the box. Powerline lost cohesion in the middle of the park after the goal. They were severely punished and Benny’s made it 2-0 before the half-time whistle. Their second goal came via Bonani Macheke, whose close-range ground cutter was too hot for the Powerline keeper, Mbavhi Mufamadi, to handle.

Things turned against Power-

line three minutes into the last half. Their right back, Thabiso Makatu, was given his marching orders, following a second book-able offence. Benny’s scored their third goal in the 64th minute when Mutshidzi Nemaxwi beat the keeper with a volley after beating the offside trap.

A consolation goal for Pow-erline was scored by Ronald Ramalapa late in the game.

United Artists disappoint in play-offsUnited Artists failed to make the grade in the SAB League promotional play-off matches at the Mahwelereng Stadium in Mokopane over the past weekend. They followed in the footsteps of Mukula Young Santos and Tshif-hire Northern Brothers, who also failed to be promoted the previous two seasons.

United Artists won two of the four matches they played during the two-day event, drew one and lost one. They finished the tournament in the fourth position, with seven points.

They started the tournament with a bang when they beat Nkowankowa Barcelona 2-1 on Satur-day morning. Their second match was against Boyne Young Tigers, against whom they played

to a goalless draw. The Lufule-based side strengthened their

chances of gaining promotion to the ABC Motsepe Promotional League by overpowering Schinoord Chiefs 4-2 on Sunday morning. Art-ists wrapped up their program by losing 1-3 to Happy Hearts from the Waterberg Region on Sunday afternoon.

United Artists, Nkowankowa Barcelona, Boyne Young Tigers and Happy Hearts finished the tournament with seven points each, but Nkowankowa Barcelona (Mopani) and Boyne Young Tigers (Capricorn) gained promotion. They were promoted by virtue of having more goals than United Artists and Happy Hearts.

After fighting for league points against African Warriors at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in Phuthaditshaba two weeks ago, Black Leopards will play another league match away from home this weekend. They will undertake a journey to the Eastern Cape, where they will meet the newly promoted Mthatha Bucks at the Mthatha Stadium tomorrow afternoon.

Bucks are still to win a league match after gain-ing promotion to the NFD. They shared the spoils with Vasco da Gama (1-1) in Cape Town in their opening match. Their second match was against Milano United, to whom they lost 0-2 at home.

The Thohoyandou outfit collected maximum points in their opening match when they beat Mila-no 2-0. They played to a goalless draw with African Warriors in their second fixture. It remains to be seen whether the Bucks’ defenders, John Kekana and Lawrence Skhosana, will be able to stop the Leopards’ fast forwards, Thembisani Nevhulamba and Ruggert Nyundu.

The other fixtures in the NFD are Moroka Swal-lows vs Highlandspark, Baroka vs Vasco da Gama, FC Cape Town vs Milano United, Amazulu vs Royal Eagles, Santos vs Thanda Royal Zulu, Cape Town All Stars vs African Warriors and Mbombela United vs Witbank Spurs.

They beat Tshakhuma RO United 2-1. It will be a matter of life and death to Tshakhuma Na Ndilani, or Makhurabada as they are affectionately called.

It will be the third match for Tshakhuma Na Ndilani, while FC KK will be going for their second hurdle. Makhurabada lost their opening match against Maweja Takers 0-1, before beat-ing Tshakhuma Peace Makers 0-1 last Sunday. The match is scheduled to start at 13:00, while Takers will take on Tshakhuma

Mr Mukondi Nemavhulani.

After several weeks of speculations, the man-agement of Maweja Takers and Joe Express have confirmed that they had decided to close ranks and merge.

According to the general manager of Maweja Takers, Mr Mukondi Nemavhulani, the move is the final product of a series of closed-door meetings between the two parties.

Nemavhulani revealed that the deal was sealed towards the end of last month. The managing direc-tor of Joe Express FC, Mr Joe Malala, confirmed the move, saying the deal would not only benefit the two parties, but local football lovers as well. He further stated that the decision to merge had come after it was realized that it would be difficult for either side to gain promotion to the elite league on their own.

Express had been campaigning in the ABC Motsepe League for two seasons, while Takers had been an affiliate of the MMK Administrators' League for two seasons as well. Nemavhulani said that the new club would be known as Joe Maweja FC. The team will have two training camps, at Ni-ani and Tshakhuma. The Tshifulanani Stadium will be their home ground and the Makwarela Stadium their alternative home ground.

According to him, they will not rush into con-ducting trials for new players. They will first give the current players of Maweja Takers and Joe Ex-

press a chance to prove themselves. He also added that they were busy assembling a formidable squad that would take them to the National First Division at the end of the coming season.

During the handing over are, from left to right, Makatu Musenwa, Matamba Musenwa, Mr Andani Makhado (donor), Bishop Musiamu and Kaizer Manyoro.

The manager of Water of Af-rika, Mr Makatu Musenwa, handed over a new soccer kit to Madombidzha Try Again at Madombidzha last Thursday. Try Again are playing under the auspices of the Makhado Local Football Association.

According to Musenwa, the donation was a way of giving back to the community. "We have been touched by the plight of the youths, who seemed dedicated to sports but lacked resources," he said. He added that he knew of the hardships faced by youths in rural areas.

He mentioned that they were touched during a visit to his birthplace to find that the local club was still using the same old tattered uniforms bought a long time ago.

“As someone who was born in this area, I know the problems faced by the youth here. Many of their parents are not working and they depend on grants for their livelihood. A soccer kit is a luxury that they cannot afford,” he said.

Musenwa stated that they felt obliged to assist the government in its efforts to fight crime and

that the company was looking forward to seeing the team pro-duce players that will feature in the national team in coming years.

Mr Bishop Musiamo thanked Water of Afrika and other spon-sors for developing soccer in the rural areas and said it was very wise for the owner to plough back what he received from the community. He stated that it was important that future stars' talent should be identified at grassroots level. He said that the sponsor-ship would serve as a motivating factor to the players.

United Brothers outsmart Western StarsMuraleni United Brothers beat Madombidzha Western Stars 2-0 in the Mamubezou tourna-ment at Tshiozwi on Sunday.

The victory did not reflect the game in general as Brothers outsmarted the Stars from the onset.

They were lucky not to concede half a dozen of goals during the first half, as they were out of touch in all departments. Brothers also missed two clear chances in the first 10 minutes.

Godwin Mahuwa shot wide from close range after receiving a neat pass from Bashin Livhalani in the fourth minute. He also re-leased aimlessly from outside the box a few minutes later.

Brothers f inal ly broke the deadlock in the 38th minute. The long-range ground cutter by left flank Ndweleni ”Metrobul-lets” Tsanwani left the Stars keeper flat-foot-ed. Stars lost cohesion and Brothers capital-ised on this by scoring their second goal three minutes before the half-time whistle via Tsanwani, who com-pleted his brace.

Both sides effected two changes in the last half. The replacements worked against Broth-ers as they played the last stanza with their backs against the wall. Percy Munonoka and

Aluwani Nedzambai missed sitters in the dying minutes.

In their Vhembe Masters Soccer League match at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday, Stamina Free Masters taught Havava Masters a soccer lesson when they crushed them 9-0.

Havava played the fi rst 35 minutes of the game with only nine men, due to the late arrival of some of their key players. Realizing that it would be diffi cult for them to fi nd their way through the de-fence of Stamina, Havava played defensive football throughout the fi rst half.

The wheel of fortune turned against the visitors from Thohoyandou in the 24th minute. The slender striker of Stamina, Tsumbedzo “Zoo” Manamela, blasted in a rocket from the edge of the box. The keeper of Havava, Lutendo Nemaguvhuni, could not help but watch helplessly as the ball hit the back of the net.

Realizing that there was nothing to defend any-more, Havava committed suicide by trying to play attacking football.

That gave Stamina Free enough chance dictate terms in all departments. Motheo Lebakeng was on target in the 27th minute. He received a neat pass from Given Mpfumba and unleashed a powerful shot from inside the box. Ntambudzeni “Manani” Mundalamo scored the third goal three minutes later. Manamela completed his brace in the 36th minute, following a square pass from Motheo Lebakeng.

Ntambudzeni Mundalamo and Motheo Lebakeng scored in quick succession to bring the half-time score to 6-0.

Stamina strengthened their midfi eld by intro-ducing Mashudu Mathoma and Wesley Kutama for Avhashoni Magoma and Motheo Lebakeng respectively. They increased the margin in the 69th minute. Ike Mechieobi forced his way through the defence of Havava and beat the keeper with a ground cutter. Mechieobi and Zoo Manamela scored the last two later in the game.

Given Mpfumba of Stamina Free in full stretch to

hook the ball.

Emmanuel Nyelisani of Stamina Free hooks the ball, while Sandani Tshengelo of Havava is on his heels.

Mashudu Mathoma of Stamina Free kicks the ball, while David Mudoseni of Havava goes the opposite way.
