From: Stonewall <[email protected]> Sent: 21 January 2019 10:00 To: Subject: Stonewall's Top 100 Employers announced!
Dear
I am delighted to announce Stonewall’s Top 100 LGBT-Inclusive Employers 2019.
Every year, we publish a list of the 100 employers that receive the highest marks in our
annual Workplace Equality Index. The 2019 Index was the largest in the Index’s fifteen-
year history, with 445 organisations taking part.
I want to personally congratulate every organisation that entered, and to thank all of our
Diversity Champions for your continued commitment and hard work. What you do makes a
real and tangible difference to the lives of LGBT people in the workplace, to your clients,
customers and service users, and more broadly across the communities you are part of.
Read the full report and highlights form the Workplace Equality Index here
The 2019 Employer of the Year
I’m thrilled to reveal that this year’s Employer of the Year, topping the list, is law firm
Pinsent Masons. An outstanding champion for LGBT-inclusion, Pinsent Masons secured
the number two spot on the list in both 2017 and 2018, but this year they achieved number
one! I hope that you will join me in warmly congratulating them on social media, using
#StonewallTop100 and #ComeOutForLGBT.
Pinsent Masons has also been named as
our very first Employer of the Year for
Northern Ireland, following the launch of
our Diversity Champions programme in
partnership with The Rainbow Project
Northern Ireland. In the last year, Pinsent
Masons has played an integral role in
establishing Businesses for Love Equality,
a group of employers in Northern Ireland
who published a joint statement in
September 2018 in support of the
extension of equal marriage. We are
proud of their work, our partnership with
The Rainbow Project, and that the
Workplace Equality Index is now UK-wide.
We’re also enormously proud of this year’s Top Trans-Inclusive Employers - fourteen
organisations that are making the biggest strides in trans-inclusion in the workplace. This
year, we’ve also announced the first Bi-Inclusive Workplace Award winner - many
congratulations go to Citi for picking up this well-deserved honour. With almost two in five
bi people (38 per cent) not comfortable enough to be out at work, there’s considerably
more to do on bi-inclusion in UK workplaces. The award celebrates Citi’s achievement and
we hope will inspire others to follow their lead.
There’s a huge amount to celebrate today, and much more still to be achieved, as our
2018 LGBT in Britain – Work report showed. If you need inspiration or want to find out
more, please take a look at today’s Top 100 report or book a place at our 2019 London
Workplace Conference in April where speakers from many of our Top 100 employers and
more will be on hand to share their experience.
All of us at Stonewall are enormously proud of our network of Diversity Champions and the
changes you are making every day, right across the UK. Thank you for your support and
hard work in whatever way you Come Out For LGBT and here’s to a fantastic year ahead.

Dear Hope you’re well – you may have already confirmed attendance, but I wanted to get in touch about Stonewall’s annual event with the Interlaw Diversity Forum which is taking place on the 20th
February. This year we’ll be discussing the Workplace Equality Index 2020, key trends in the sector and representatives from this year’s high performers in the legal sector will also be on hand to share best practice and answer questions about common challenges. You can read more about the event below. It would be great to have you there as it should be a useful tool in driving your LGBT inclusion work, so if you’d like to join us please click the link below! All my best,
***************************
Please join us on Wednesday, 20 February 2019 for one of the most popular monthly
meetings of our LGBT+ Network, where we will be discussing Stonewall’s 2020 Workplace
Equality Index (“WEI”). Representatives from this year’s high performers in the legal sector
will be on hand to share best practice and provide guidance on how your organization can do
better on next year’s WEI. Applications for the 2020 WEI are due in September, so now is the
time to start preparing!
We will also unveil the latest edition of the “Top 25 from the Legal Sector” for the WEI,
co-branded with Stonewall and the InterLaw Diversity Forum. The InterLaw Diversity
Forum collaborated with Stonewall nine years ago to innovate this first sector-specific list in
the WEI (then called the “Top Ten in the Legal Sector”). This was intended to recognize those
firms who might not appear in the Top 100 list, and to encourage greater participation in the
WEI. Because of its success, it has been replicated by Stonewall for other sectors, as well.
Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index is the definitive national benchmarking exercise
showcasing Britain’s top employers for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender staff.
Since the InterLaw Diversity Forum’s founding in 2008, we have seen the number of legal
employers in the Top 100 grow from zero to sixteen, and have seen the legal sector’s rating
rise from second from the bottom to ranking first on the list for multiple years.
This improvement has in part been driven by our annual meetings, by intensive behind-the-
scenes InterLaw assistance to legal employers in preparing WEI submissions, by our co-
branded sector list with Stonewall, and by InterLaw’s previously published Guides to the WEI
for the Legal Sector.
(See our 2019 WEI Guide HERE).
The InterLaw Diversity Forum has expanded beyond the legal sector and now assists
corporates and financial institutions in preparing their WEI submissions.
Stonewall has stated: “A major part of the movement forward for the [legal] sector has been
the InterLaw Diversity Forum. It helped provide a sector-specific focus.”

Hi
Thanks for your time just now – if you send me through a diary invite for mid April as you suggested, I can confirm from there. Looking forward to hearing about the committee’s areas of focus for the year ahead.
It was great to hear about the Trans flag flying at the Law Society! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for the photos. Here are the top tips I mentioned for celebrating Trans Day of Visibility:
Host an event to celebrate Trans Day of Visibility – for example, a panel discussion or a
fundraising event for a trans community group. This is a good way to start important
conversations about trans inclusion in your workplace.
Internally profile trans role models – whether they’re employees from within your
organisation or sector, profiling trans role models shows that trans employees are included
and valued by your organisation.
Remind staff about your trans-inclusive policies – if your organisation has a ‘Transitioning at
work’ policy or states a zero-tolerance approach to transphobia in its ‘Bullying and
harassment’ policy, take this opportunity to make sure all staff know about it!
Publicly show support or trans inclusion – we’d love to see as many of organisations as
possible celebrating Trans Day of Visibility on social media. You can use the hashtags
#TransDayOfVisibility and #WithTheT, and share the graphics attached.
Here’s a draft tweet you can modify and use for your organisation: Happy #TransDayOfVisibility to all of our trans colleagues, friends and family. We stand in solidarity #WithTheT and will continue to do so on this day and every day in the coming months and years.
Anything else I can do, please let me know.
Best wishes,

Hi
Stonewall was founded 30 years ago by a group of people who wanted to break down
barriers to equality.
Back in 1989, a piece of legislation called Section 28 had just been passed. It effectively
banned conversations about same-sex relationships in school, forcing LGBT teachers into
the closet or out of a job and scarring a generation of young LGBT people.
Stonewall was created to fight this
discrimination. Over the past 30 years
we’ve made a big difference to the lives of
LGBT people here and around the world.
In the UK, the LGBT movement has won
employment rights. Parenting rights.
Partnership rights. An equal age of
consent.
To celebrate this, we’ve picked our
favourite 30 moments of equality and we’ll
be highlighting these ‘star’ moments
throughout this year, as well as asking
people to share their hopes for the future.
There’s lots for us to celebrate – but
there’s also lots for us to do before we
achieve our mission of acceptance
without exception.
Join us in celebrating equality and working towards a world where everyone is free to be themselves.
Show your support on social media – by saying Happy Birthday on 24 May! Use
the hashtags #Stonewall30 and #ComeOutForLGBT and download our sharing
graphic here.
Host an Equali-tea – we’ve created a toolkit for Diversity Champions, with tips
and resources for hosting your own. Equali-teas are a great way to raise
awareness of LGBT history, celebrate LGBT inclusion in the workplace, engage
colleagues in your own LGBT initiatives, and fundraise to support our work to
achieve acceptance without exception – all while enjoying delicious cake! Access
the toolkit on My Diversity Champions.
Display our out-of-home campaign – we’ll have eight beautifully shot images
that celebrate some of our star moments, from marriage equality to repealing
Section 28. If you have advertising space where these can be hosted, please let us
know and we can provide the files.
Note: if you have teams or offices in Northern Ireland that are keen to get involved, we’d
encourage them to support our friends at The Rainbow Project who are celebrating their
25th anniversary this year. The Rainbow Project are Northern Ireland’s largest LGBT
organisation and we’re proud to partner with them. For more information contact:
I also want to send a heartfelt thanks. It’s your work and your commitment that help create
a world where everyone is accepted without exception. Thank you for helping change the
lives of LGBT people. As ever, your account manager is on hand to answer any questions.

Hi
Please do accept my apologies for the delay in coming back to you on this, it’s been really busy here between the bank holidays, some annual leave and the build up to our workplace conference last Friday.
Just to keep you informed as well, I have gone back to Arnold and Porter about dates and speaker fees so will let you know when I hear back.

Hi
Welcome to your March newsletter from Stonewall. In this edition, find out how to help us
improve our Workplace Equality Index, how Diversity Champions celebrated LGBT history
month, and how to take part in upcoming Stonewall events.
Have your say on the future of the Workplace
Equality Index
At Stonewall we’re always looking for ways to improve our work and to hear from you
about how we can do that. With that in mind, we’re asking for your feedback on the
Workplace Equality Index and Top 100 Employers list. This will help us identify the next
steps for our benchmarking work.
We're seeking to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the Workplace Equality Index.
We also want to learn more about how leading employers assess their progress and
engage their teams with LGBT inclusion.
Your experiences and ideas are very important to us. We’d be grateful if you would
complete our short survey and share your feedback. The survey takes just ten minutes to
complete. You can even complete it if your organisation has never submitted to the
Workplace Equality Index.
The deadline for responding to the survey is 5pm GMT on 11 April 2019.

Hi
We're writing to tell you about some exciting developments in our work supporting
students, graduates and job seekers to find LGBT-inclusive workplaces.
For many years, Stonewall has run two wide-reaching careers services:
Proud Employers – our leading jobsite for LGBT people and their allies,
exclusively showcasing the vacancies of Diversity Champions.
Starting Out – our annual careers guide and website with guidance on finding
LGBT-inclusive employers, sector insights and the stories of inspirational LGBT
role models.
Today we’re delighted to announce our plans to bring these two successful initiatives
together, to become one, comprehensive Proud Employers careers site. From now on,
LGBT jobseekers and their allies will have all the information they need in one place –
including tips and guidance, listings of all our Diversity Champions and job adverts with
inclusive employers.
By better meeting the needs of increasingly digital jobseekers, we expect the new Proud
Employers website to receive increased, year-round traffic. We won’t be producing a
physical Starting Out guide in 2019. Instead, this year we’ll send Proud Employers
materials to schools, colleges, universities and youth groups across the UK, to help job
seekers find you. The Starting Out website will remain open until 2020.
As a Diversity Champion, you’ll automatically receive a listing on the Proud Employers
website, and can exclusively advertise job vacancies within your organisation. To
celebrate the newly integrated site, we’re offering introductory special discounts to new
users, with up to 30% off - get in touch with our team to find out more and make the
most of this offer. All income generated through Proud Employers is invested back in to
Stonewall’s wider work, ensuring we achieve our mission of acceptance without exception
for LGBT people.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with your account manager or
[email protected] and we’ll be happy to help.
Very best wishes,

A note from our CEO
"This year marks 14 years since I joined Stonewall, five years since I became the Chief
Executive and my final year at this amazing organisation. The past half-decade has been
the most exciting, challenging, humbling and rewarding time of my life.
This year we’re also celebrating Stonewall’s 30th anniversary and so 2019 has been a time
of reflection, both personally and professionally. There are many moments I’m proud of –
equal marriage, Stonewall becoming trans inclusive and our work empowering LGBT
people in institutions, businesses, schools and internationally.
But we must always be wary of complacency - there’s still so much to do. My hope for the
future is that Stonewall continues to have the support of brilliant people like you – we
cannot do this without you. Thank you." - Ruth Hunt, Stonewall CEO. Read her full note.

Your 2020 Workplace Equality Index submission: five top tips
The 2020 Workplace Equality Index is now open for submissions. Here are some tips to
help you prepare for it:
1. Use last year’s submission: if you entered the Index last year, your 2020
submission will populate the form with last year’s responses. You can then update
it with the work done this year. Remember to include dates or timeframes if the
question asks about work a particular period.
2. Share the Staff Feedback Questionnaire: part of the Workplace Equality Index is
a survey of your employees and the results are worth 10% of the points available.
When you send the survey to your employees you should also provide your
organisation’s 4-digit code. If you don’t have your 4-digit code, contact us.
3. Ask Stonewall to review a draft: Stonewall can give you top-line feedback on a
one-page document. Send a copy of your submission to your account manager
any time before Friday 9 August, so you have time to make any changes before
the submission deadline.
4. Enter the 2020 awards: every year, alongside celebrating the Top 100
Employers, we celebrate individuals, networks and organisations that are leading
the way on LGBT inclusion. There are a range of national and regional awards to
be won. You can apply or nominate colleagues for any of the awards in section 10
of your submission.
5. Be an early bird: Diversity Champions that submit to the Index before 9 August
2019 will receive one free place on our digital Allies Programme in January. The
final submission deadline is midnight on Monday 9 September 2019 and we will
not be able to accept any late entries.
Good luck and remember that the Stonewall team is here to help with any queries while
you’re working on your submission.

What our Diversity Champions are up to
ITV launched a six months partnership with Gaydio, an LGBT radio
station. This cross-platform collaboration with both digital and on-air

women, disabled or parents. To deliver this, ITV worked closely with all of their employee

and on-air content.

Dear
Today, we’re delighted to announce our 2019 Top Global Employers - Stonewall’s list of
the best multinational employers for lesbian, gay, bi and trans (LGBT) staff.
Read the Top Global Employers report and find out who won our five additional
global awards.
Stonewall’s Top Global Employers list showcases the best multinational employers for
LGBT staff. The list is compiled from submissions to the Global Workplace Equality Index:
a powerful benchmarking tool used by employers to create inclusive workplaces across the
markets in which they operate.
We would like to congratulate our 2019 Top Global Employers, who have demonstrated a
real commitment to ensuring that LGBT staff and stakeholders feel included at work
wherever they are based. All 14 of these businesses are truly at the forefront of driving
global LGBT inclusion in the workplace and beyond, which is a crucial step in bringing
LGBT equality closer.
But there is so much left to do to ensure that lesbian, gay, bi and trans employees feel able
to be themselves at work, no matter where they are. To achieve this, we’re proud to work
with the Top Global Employers and our Global Diversity Champions members, who
operate in some extremely difficult contexts, to create workplaces that are inclusive and
supportive of LGBT people and equality.
We will be celebrating the Top Global Employers on social media throughout the day -
please join us in congratulation them, using #StonewallTopGlobal
Best wishes,

As you mention, I think it would be great to think further about how to support in your external strategy engaging law firms are not diversity champions, as well as thinking about how Stonewall can support you in building your inclusive culture internally, through policy reviews, awareness raising, benchmarking and more.
If you have any questions or concerns about the renewal (or anything else I can support with!), please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Would be great to find a time if not as I’m conscious we haven’t spoken for a couple of months - please do accept my apologies again.

Hi I’m well thanks – hope you are too. I wanted to check on your enquiry from when I was on annual leave, were you able to access the memberships area? You also mentioned that someone would be taking over as lead on LGBT work, when would this be from? Do let me know so I can ensure that our systems are up to date and they don’t miss out on any relevant communications. Re: the call, that’s no problem, let me know what would work best for you either way (and enjoy your holiday!) Best wishes,

Thank you for emailing your MP in support of trans equality, calling for reforms to the
Gender Recognition Act. The voices of trans people and their friends, family and allies are
powerful in showing MPs that this issue matters to voters in their local community.
Tell us what happened next
Has your MP replied?
Whether or not they’ve replied to you yet, please tell us. This helps us see how MPs are
responding to the campaign – and to know what more we need to do to ensure they’re
confident in supporting trans equality.
Thank you – and please do keep sharing the action with your friends. Over three
quarters of MPs in England and Wales have heard from their constituents about GRA
reform. That’s amazing, but to have the best chance of reform we need every single MP to
hear this message loud and clear.
Many thanks,
Stonewall Campaigns team

Dear
Last year over 12 million people saw the Rainbow Laces campaign. Half of those that
saw the campaign said that anti LGBT language and abuse in sport is less acceptable
than it was a year ago. We’re making progress.
But we’ve still got some way to go. Four in ten LGBT people still don’t think sport is
welcoming. We can change that.
Sport has an amazing power to bring people together. Sport can give us community,
energy and a sense of belonging. Whether we're cheering or competing, we are all at our
best when we feel part of the team.
This year we are asking everyone to Come Out Active and support Stonewall on our
mission to make sport everyone’s game.
It’s as simple as this: do something active while wearing your rainbow laces, raise vital
funds for Stonewall and tell everyone why you support LGBT equality in sport.
Whether on land, in the water, indoors or outside. Whether you walk, swim, cycle, do a
class or get involved with your club or team – the choice is yours! You can choose to go
solo or get your community, colleagues and friends involved.
Come Out Active week is 23 – 30 November, but you can choose to take on your activity
at any point in November. If you want to make the most impact then we suggest holding
your event on Rainbow Laces Day, Wednesday 27 November.
Sign up here to Come Out Active
There are lots of ways for you and your
friends, family and community to be a part
of Rainbow Laces 2019, we’ll be in touch
soon with more information. Right now,
you can buy your laces and raise
awareness to help make sport everyone’s
game.

Dear
Mark your calendars! 27 November is Rainbow Laces Day, when people all over the UK
will be wearing their Rainbow Laces in support of LGBT people in sport.
Last year over 12 million people saw our campaign and half of those that saw it said that
homophobic, biphobic and transphobic language and abuse in sport is less acceptable
than the previous year. We’re making progress and this is thanks to people like you.
But we need you to keep playing your part. Our research shows that four in ten LGBT
people still don’t think sport is welcoming.
Together we can change that - and you don't even need to be into sport to make sport
everyone's game.
Just by wearing your Rainbow Laces on 27 November, you will be showing your support
for all the lesbian, gay, bi and trans people who love sport.
And if you want to go the extra mile, it’s not too late to sign up to Come Out Active and
fundraise for LGBT equality in sport.
Get your Rainbow Laces now
"When I came out as bi, it was with my rugby team where I felt most comfortable – it was
like a ready-made queer support group. For me, sport and being queer has always been
inextricably linked, and Rainbow Laces is a subtle but important way I can express this
part of my identity." - Molly Byrne, she/her, Rugby player, Shelford RFC.
Sport has an amazing power to bring people together. Sport can give us community,
energy and a sense of belonging. Whether we're cheering or competing, we are all at our
best when we feel part of the team.
Thank you for playing your part in making sport more inclusive for everyone.

Hi
Have a look at our most up to date monitoring guide (attached), which you should find helpful. It is geared towards LGBT+ employees, however the principles can be adapted for different groups, especially because as we all know, you can be both BAME and LGBT+.
I hope you’re holding up well! Stay safe.

Dear
I hope you’re well.
The environment we work within continues to change rapidly and we are seeing the ways we all work having to adapt in order to meet and rise above the challenges we find ourselves presented with.
As a charity, we have also had to review the ways we work to ensure we can adapt to the changing demands we have on our work and ensure we safeguard our colleagues, organisation and our work across our communities. This has included Stonewall engaging with the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme as we know many of the organisations we work with have had to and are furloughing some of our staff while we are experiencing the current pandemic.
We recognise that in these times, marginalised people within our communities and workplaces can experience some of the worst impacts from such crises. As such we are committed to continuing to provide all of the services and support you receive as a Stonewall Diversity Champion. In order to best deliver this and meet the changing and additional needs of our clients, we will be altering the way in which you access these services, advice and support.
During this period, we are migrating away from a single point of contact for you and giving you access to our full pool of Client Account Managers. This will help ensure we are able to respond to queries and requests in the shortest time possible and give you access to our widest range of skills, experience and knowledge to advise on the unprecedented challenges we know many of you are facing.
Please direct all your questions, queries and requests to [email protected] as you would normally to your client account manager. This will then be managed by our team and responded to directly or assigned to the most appropriate team member to manage the request. As above, the full range of support including policy reviews, network support and phone consultations will be available, so please continue to utilise the service to it’s full extent as and when you require.
I have attached a document which outlines in more detail how you might wish to use your membership at this time, and signposts some key resources and sources of support which may be of use to you and your staff.
We understand how disruptive changes can feel during this time, but by adapting in this way, we will be able to ensure any support needs you have are met in the best way possible. We are immensely grateful for your understanding and your continued work to ensure ALL your colleagues are supported through these challenging times.
With thanks and well wishes as always,

Hi
Hope you and everyone at the Law Society are doing well. I’m just reaching out to let you know that I am back on flexible furlough now (working Tues and Weds), and to check that you wanted to renew your membership for next year?
I am also aware that we discussed reviewing your policies, but due to the pandemic and my subsequent furlough, I am unsure if you sent the policies over to us?
Either way, I’d love to get a meeting in the diary for us to discuss your LGBT inclusion plans going forward.
Kind regards,

Subject: Stonewall Joint Action for Trans Equality
Hi
As you may be aware, reports recently suggested that the Government was planning regressive legislative steps that would have negatively impacted the lives, safety and careers of transgender individuals.
In response to this, 40+ global corporations – brought together by Stonewall, Mermaids, Intermedia and Trans in the City – very effectively voiced their concerns to the Government, in the form of both public and private letters on 1st August 2020.
Building on the momentum from this fantastic initial show up support, now is the time to demonstrate our commitment to our transgender employees, customers, colleagues, trans allies and to the wider LGBT+ community, through an extended Corporate response initiative.
What can your organisation do to support?
We are asking you to sign up to the headline message “Trans Rights Are Human Rights” with a subtext of “We value trans people as our employees, colleagues and customers.” We will publish a list of signatory organisations (including logos) on 1st September 2020. These will be featured on a dedicated web page, shared across Social Media, in the press and also on public landmarks including, hopefully, Piccadilly Circus.
Optionally you could also sign up to any or all of the following:
Add your company name to either the public or private letters to Government (see attached). These will then be re-issued on the 1st September.
Create your own supporting corporate message, publicity or campaign on the 1st Septembersuitable to your own corporate message and wider D&I strategy. We can help you to do this by providing you with:
o Media ideas, logos and suggested messages. o A standard response pack to aid comms teams to help them respond confidently to any
questions or enquiries about your organisation's support for the transgender community.
o Ongoing support and guidance to assist your communications plan.
We believe that together we can make a difference to transgender lives. To sign up and provide your support, please respond to this mail telling us how you wish to participate and attach your latest logo.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,

Hi
Hope you’re doing well!
I’m just getting in touch around the Law Society’s DC membership. According to our systems your membership lapsed on the 31st Aug and was not renewed.
Here is the form to fill in to renew your membership (£2500 +VAT), so that we can invoice you, as you are now quite a few months out of membership and will no longer be able to benefit from our hub, best practice sharing and the consultancy criteria sessions.
Kind regards,

Hi
I hope you’re well!
Your new key contact will be in touch as soon as they are in post, and I wanted to get in touch to update you on the support mechanisms in the meantime. Should you have any questions or need any other form of support, please contact the Workplace team on [email protected].
I encourage you to keep an eye out on the monthly Diversity Champions newsletter as there'll be important (and interesting!) information about upcoming key initiatives such as the Rainbow Laces campaign and other opportunities for you to utilise/get involved with.
Let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.
Best wishes,
