Welcome to the December edition of the Burgess Marine Quarterly Newsletter.The past few months have been extremely busy through what is usually aquiet period of the year for ship repair and we would like to take this
opportunity to thank all those who have supported us throughout the year. In thisedition we talk about a number of refits and repairs taken place, Burgess Marineacquiring Meercat Workboats, the success of Sure Build WFSV’s, Burgess Marinerecent partnership with Shoreham Port.

Burgess Marine is delighted toannounce that we are working inpartnership with Shoreham Port,Adur Dry Dock to provide a skilledworkforce. The Adur Dry Dock hasan array of fantastic facilities on siteto offer Burgess Marine & ShorehamPort customers as well as acompetitive service with quick andreliable turnaround times. A widevariety of vessels regularly visit theDry Dock including tugs, trawlers,survey vessels, yachts and tall shipsand many more.
The dock is 50.5 metres long (45 at blocks), 10 metres broad atwater level (8.5 at blocks) with adraft of 5.2 metres over blocks.
Burgess Marine In Marseille
Burgess Marine over the pastfew months was the approvedcontractor of choice for analuminium package of workson a undisclosed Superyachtbeing repaired in the south ofFrance for a leading yachtmanagement company. Theoriginal job consisted of minorrepairs to the fuel & freshwater tanks. Due to corrosionwithin the FW tank and thegarage door the job has nowgrown. Burgess Marine waschosen to carry out the projectover the yard, due to a costsaving of near on £1m whichthe yacht management firmand owner are obviouslythrilled aboutBurgess Marine Partners with
Shoreham Port and Adur Dry DockBy collaborating with BML,
Shoreham Port will attract newbusiness to 7 Dry Dock throughbeing able to offer comprehensiverepair services. A reciprocalagreement will see work that cannotbe accommodated in BML’s otherfacilities catered for in Shorehamand vice versa.

Sure BuildBurgess Marine introduces ‘Sure Build’, a new concept in small boat and WFSVbuilding. In partnership with Mainprize Offshore, and supported by Close Brothers,Burgess Marine has developed a new concept of ‘cost plus’ boat building ensuringthe delivery of a quality product with minimal risk to all parties. Benefits include,transparent ‘cost plus’ boat building; class approved; coded welders and OEMtrained fitters; heavy marine engineering experience; big ship technology for smallboats and a unique price point and build model
The principle dimensions for MO2, Sure Builder’s first boat: LOA of 25.25m; beamof 9.5m and a draft of 2m. Also Pax 12; Berth 4; Engine CAT32’S; Speed 30kn withLloyds Register Certificate.
The MO2 is a 13 month build, but the client would to like have the vessel at theSeaWorks show in Southampton May 2015. After careful planning we are able toachieve this by bringing the build time down to 10 months.
Other newsBurgess Marine is looking to build four new vessels for a Wind Farm Operator. NowBurgess Marine probably have the most fuel efficient and dead load design in themarket place at the moment, which is still achieving 30kn.

This picture is thirteen weeks into the build, all the shell plates in place and partially welded.
South Africa ProjectBurgess Marine’s electrical team has justcompleted a 4 month refit on board theprivately owned dive vessel ‘The DanahExplorer’. With Burgess Marine workingalongside Southern African shipyards inDurban, our engineers were able to wire andfit all electrical distribution and sub wiringaccommodating the new 10 roomextension. This new addition to the vesselconsisted of a new owners’ suite completewith gym, spa, bar area, study, lounge andmaster suite. These new areas are nowaccessible via a new personal elevator givingthe owner complete privacy from helicopterto the suite. This project was overseen byYacht Projects and under Bureau Veritasclass. The vessel is now under way andheading for the Seychelles. A project worthover £500,000. Special thanks to our loyalthird party electrical suppliers for all theirsupport during the project.
Below this was taken three weeks into the build, keels laid and nearly all the frames up.

Koi CoyThe Portchester ship lift saw many vesselsthroughout the month of September includingthe delightful Superyacht M/Y Coy Koi for a hullclean, paint and change of anodes. The Captainwas very pleased with the service from ChrisHems and his team and gave a 8/10 on theservice appraisal questionnaire.
Going the Extra Mile
Burgess Marine Aquires MeercatIt’s been a busy period for Meercat Workboats. The UK’s largestindependent ship repairer, Burgess Marine, has successfully acquired100% of the share capital in Meercat Workboats Ltd.
Jason Coltman, Meercats' new managing director, said: "Theacquisition of Meercat is very much in line with our plans for longer-termstrategic growth: Meercat builds boats, Burgess Marine repairs ships, andTrafalgar Yacht Management manages yachts.
Our intent is to develop Meercat by gradually expanding the company’sproduct range and facilities. We’re looking at barges, canal tugs, largerclass approved workboats and the potential for further ‘Sure Build’ stylealuminium builds."
